You’re a great storyteller. I sat through this in 1 sitting. My 2 cents: friends have love languages the same way intimate partners do. I don’t care for birthdays. Not even my own. But my best friend would be hurt that you sent a text at midday and over the years I’ve had to hold space for that and learn how to celebrate her the way she wants to be celebrated and it’s as little as a hand written card with flowers. She’ll be so happy like you bought her something extraordinary. It’s the thought for her. Lastly there’s no one more difficult to have a conversation with than someone who’s confrontational. It could be the most minor of inconveniences or misunderstanding but knowing they are a confrontational person no matter how many times to rehearse the conversation over in your head about how you’re going to approach them is enough to make a non confrontational have a panic attack so rather throw the whole friendship away. Which is unfortunate. It’s not enough that people know your heart. What you may recognise as effort into a friendship may not be what they need. We don’t invest enough in friendships imo.

I too am always ready to cut off or distance myself. I can immediately tell when things won't be the same again and I keep people at arm's length. I remember when I got a new job I told her about it and she said...huuuuu that company is not paying really well, my husband makes the exact salary. Mind you it was a step up for me and we are both in the same field. Then other things that made me uncomfortable followed in our friendship. I am usually confrontational but I think I am not when it comes to her, not sure why 🤣. I woke up one day and cut her off because it was a build up of taking nonsense and the gas lighting. I could tell you about a dinner I’m having next week, time and place and how many people who gonna be there but if I don’t explicitly say “promise, please come to my dinner” then chances are you won’t come. Invites are specific and you also need to RSVP coz you pay per head. And let’s say it was an invite, then she definitely would’ve had an issue that I didn’t rsvp or come to the wedding. ❤

I have separated from friends because of the same thing, I would compliment and ask about a certain thing that they bought. I could tell you about a dinner I’m having next week, time and place and how many people who gonna be there but if I don’t explicitly say “promise, please come to my dinner” then chances are you won’t come. Invites are specific and you also need to RSVP coz you pay per head. And let’s say it was an invite, then she definitely would’ve had an issue that I didn’t rsvp or come to the wedding. ❤
