The Chandigarh administration has sold over 200 tickets worth Rs 45,000 to visit the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre at Sector 18, which was inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Tourism Director Rohit Gupta told The Indian Express that they are receiving an overwhelming response from the public to visit the nation’s first Air Force Heritage Centre.
“Tickets are being booked online as well as offline. Our tourism app has seen many bookings online for the next few days. On day one today, just in two hours, over 50 people visited the centre. We threw open the centre at 10 am today. There are no slots to visit and go around the centre on an entry ticket of Rs 50 for adults while it is free for children. However, for the immersive experience with simulators, there are three slots of 25 people each beginning at 10 am, noon and 3 pm, with prior booking. The simulator experience costs 295 for children and adults. Tickets are available on the Chandigarh tourism app and at counters. The centre is open from 10 am to 6 pm.
The 200-second virtual reality experience is one of the highlights at the centre. A MiG-29 aircraft of the Indian Airforce gradually takes to the skies the Chabua air base in the Northeast and speeds towards a Chinese airbase. A little while after lifting off, the bombardment at the Chinese airbase begins.
Spread Over 17,000 square feet, this is the first heritage centre of the IAF and depicts its role in various wars, including 1965, 1971 and the Kargil war, and the Balakot air strike through murals and memorabilia.
