Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a stunning tour de force for both Insomniac and the Playstation 5. Harnessing the brilliant story, world, characters and imagination of the Ratchet universe, Insomniac have super-charged their vision with Sony's next gen hardware to create an over-awing visual showcase. It doesn't hurt that the game is pretty damn fun as well.

But is it as good as Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked?

Surfshark sucks, I'm stuck with another 3 years of them, Best server is only 90 down. Most websites, including google detects them and makes you verify that you're real. Every single google search with Surfshark on makes you prove that you're human because of abnormal activity from their IP.

I can't believe all those cutscenes are real-time graphics. There's literally no drop in quality, they've done it. We have actual, playable Pixar level games now. This is it, the pinnacle.
And to me it’s no surprise that insomniac were the ones to do it.
Dude, this is literally the beginning of the lifecycle. 5 year's from now? Bruh...🤯🤯
@@wbrodie55 Look, you REALLY think graphics are gonna advance that much? The upgrades between consoles have been getting smaller and smaller. We have Pixar quality playable games now, we have photo-realistic architecture through the RE Engine, among other things. They can't really get much better than this.
Not really, but it does look quite great.
@@otakon17 They can always get better than this. I've played both Demon's Souls and Rift Apart and while those are currently the best looking games to ever exist, I've noticed plenty of areas in which graphics can still improve. They might have surpassed the fidelity of animated movies but they still can't equate to real life, and the "it's a video game" outlook is still everpresent. I'd say if by the end of the PS5 lifecycle we haven't achieved that, then the PS6 finally would.

This game just murdered the last generation in cold blood.
Just played this for about 3 hours and damn the graphics are so impressive. The best ive seen on PS5 so far.
I'm far too excited for this game, one of the main reasons I picked up a PS5. I played through the early R&C games on PS2 but after switching to Xbox missed out on so many of the PS3/4 titles, the reboot scratched an itch gameplaywise but felt a little off the mark. It feels like this will be a return to form and the kind of game I have wanted to experience for over a decade.
This game is a direct continuation of the ps3 games you missed. The story isnt too complicated but if you care at all about the characters you can look up what has been happening.
I also switched to the 360 but now I really think I should get the PS5 instead this time
You can play the PS3 games on PC via emulator and maybe they're on PS Now, not sure.

@@studivan No they are not supposed to be cheaper. They are supposed to support the creators of the game more with lack of packaging and no disc burning
@@masonmitchell3 That’s bs lmao. The only reason digital games aren’t cheaper is because publishers do not want to upset physical retailers (Walmart, Best Buy, GameStop...). 10-15 hours for $125 AUD is so conflicting.
My first thought
Plus the console itself.
I really hope they can re-use those assets to make more games, otherwise it'll be such a waste of production time and money.
Or they're already planning DLCs.
Not much money for a great game in my opinion.
I remember the times when I bought Mario Bros. 3, 6 Golden Coins, Castlevania and so on. Those games cost A LOT (maybe even more if you take inflation into the equation) and lastet not even half as long as Rift Apart. For me personally quality is way more important than length when it comes to games. I would rather pay even 200 bucks for Rift Apart than even 30 bucks for much longer crap games like Valhalla for example.
@@markmauk8231 I'm glad playstation has someone to sell this to, because then that allows them to make the games I enjoy.

25-30 hours is my sweet spot, by but I love games like Skyrim that have hundreds and hundreds of hours of meaningful content.
My perspective might be totally different if I never played Skyrim. Skyrim was my Mario. I was a teenager when it came out, so not like my first game, but it got me into games and is the first game I sunk over 100 hours into.
Because of that game, which I paid $50 for, I feel like it's objectively a bad deal to pay $70 for 1/10th the entertainment. I know that's only my opinion, though.

I think PS5 could be a good time to bring Sly back. The series was unique in visuals, sure, but the use of the "Time Machine" could mirror something like what we're seeing here with Rifts Apart - jumping through time, no loading screens, to pull off the perfect heist.

Your comments about possible collaboration between game development + animation studios made me think of how UNREAL ENGINE was used during the making of The Mandalorian. Like, with UE5, are the lines between films, tv, and games going to blur even more? It's exciting to think about.
This kind of reminds me of some of the games by Treasure back in 16 bit days, particularly Gunstar Heroes. Not difficult at all but really cool and fun weapons, fun and interesting bosses and just really addictive gameplay and kind of a bright colorful story.
It's funny to hear that Rivet is battle hardened and ready for anything in contrast to Ratchet, because that's exactly what Ratchet was like in the ps2 days, hell there was an entire game based around him being kidnapped and forced to fight for his life in a brutal bloodsport
Maybe that's why they decided to make Rivet the way she is. They heard some fans talking about how they missed the old Ratchet and figured... Why not give 'em both? 🤷😆
Rivet is alone in a clankless world and learned to survive by herself that's the big difference.

I've owned almost every console ever made, (started with Pong), and I've built several gaming rigs over the years. I've been gaming for about 45 years, so needless to say I'm about as veteran as gamers come. I find it almost embarrassing to say, but from a purely fun factor standpoint, this is probably the best game I've ever played. This game is the pinnacle of the entire industry. It is buttery smooth, with precise controls, full of chaotic action, filled with awesome humor, and is - hands down- the best looking game I've ever seen. No description can do this game justice, it just has to be experienced to understand. If you are a true gamer, you need to experience this title. It is a masterpiece.
Yeah, insomniac do be like that...they don't have a masterpiece story like ND or Santa Monica , R* but they create such a fun environment and fluid gameplay that you end up having most fun in their games.
I have been gaming for so long and played Masterpieces like Tlou, RDR, GoW but still had most fun in my life while playing SpiderMan Remastered this year, not only that game is most fun to play, but it has best story telling than any other SpiderMan iteration I have seen. Its a love letter to lifelong spidey fans like me and I think every fan should play that game and we should literally worship Insomniac for providing us spidey fans with such a classic representation of spidey which even beats Raimi's for me.

I mean I personally think overall though all 3 are doing great but yeah Microsoft lacks in exclusives but that doesn't make me any less excited for halo infinite
@@ryancadek halo is over-rated, new IP’s would be better
@@geraltofrivia9752 halo is not overrated, its just a fantastic series hence why everyone is excited for infinite and hoping it doesn't turn out like halo 5
This is a series I've always wanted to pick up. My biggest problem is that I always want to start from the first game so I get the whole story. Seeing this game is making it harder for me to not spend more money than I have right now
Did he... did he just say eBaums World? That unlocked a memory I didn't know I had.
I've been a diehard R&C fan since 2003, almost 20 years. I've spent countless hundreds of hours with the games since childhood. So I mean it when I say, this game is a breathtaking experience and the absolute zenith the series has ever reached. It's art/graphics, characters, voice acting, combat (though, tbh, there is a lack of enemy variety), traversal, planets, weapons and mechanics are always joyously fun and never get old. Rivet is my favorite character in not only the entire series but one of my favorites in any game. R&C as a series is very, very close to my heart, and I'm so happy that even now, almost 2 decades later in in 2021, when the world is a flaming barrel of trash and swamp scum, Insomniac are putting more love and effort into the series than ever before. Even at the same time they are also creating the masterpieces that are Spiderman & Miles Morales. And all without crunch. A truly incredible company.
Rift apart looks cool is there an ability where i can rift to the dimension when u have ur nier replicant review??
Man, it feels weird to see the video games series I grew up with still going strong. In the leadup to this release I went back and played through my collection of old R&C titles, and I had to conclude that yes, I do still like this series. I totally believe I would love this if I could play it right now.
Insomniac, and in particular Ratchet & Clank, has always been among the top of the pile when it comes to Playstation graphics. To such a degree that Skill Up's point about the movie-level quality of this game's graphics is a talking point that was already used by mainstream reviewers back in 2007, when Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction launched on the PS3. "The first game to deliver the 'you are playing a Pixar movie' experience" they said. Now at last I actually agree with that compliment.
I love what I'm seeing here, it makes me wish I had a PS5, but that's just not in the cards for me at the moment. I can only hope the game will still be there when I get around to getting one.
"perfectly placed peaks and plateau's" Beautiful.
"...he's joined by the latest Rule 34 casualty, Rivet."
*He knows too much.*
I'm more exited for this review than I am for the game
Let me just note how awesome Skill Up is. No clickbait titles to force you to actually watch the whole video to know his opinion. It is right there in the title if you want just that.
I had that "what" moment with Tekken 3 watching Law summer-salting.
I was okay with waiting for a PS5, I really was, but this review has made me suddenly furious about the whole situation. I WANT TO PLAY THIS RIGHT NOW GOD DAMMIT
Im playing it its fucking awesome
Blame Sony for the microchip shortage & botching the process of people being able to get one & upgrading their SSD’s for more storage.
Dood the facial expressions I was so negative towards how they said they had re sculpted ratchets face to give it more emotion but up until this point this was probably the only real time that it had been shown off in this way and it is eye candy 4:38
Great review as always. And great video editing:,love that black screen to emphasize the “is some kind of sorcerer”
