As an American, I think you're spot on. England (and the UK in general) has always had the best music. Yes, much of it was rooted in American rock-n-roll but what the English did with it is nothing short of brilliant.

I listen to more 80s UK music (i.e., The Smiths, Stone Roses, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Sundays, The Wonder Stuff, The Chameleons, Lloyd Cole, Robyn Hitchcock, Joy Division, Happy Mondays, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, U2, etc). I actually love all genres ... I just don't put them in the same category as Oasis much in the way you wouldn't put a twinkie in the same category as a filet... but the occasional twinkie is alright, I guess. Not for nutrition though ;)

I respect your opinion, but as much as I love Rock n' Roll, it isn't the only genre. Not all music needs to be fast and heavy. You have to listen to Chris Martin's lyrics to get the full feel of Coldplay's music. It's poetry.
