Thanks for the videos. Kinda takes me back to days I would watch PC trains pass thru Sandusky, OH area when I was a kid, and the nearby town I grew up in, Norwalk OH, on a line that has since been removed. Is refreshing to see train cars roll that have absolutely no graffiti on them.
Thank you Randall. It is refreshing to see the hoodlems didn't get to these cars back then. It just shows the decline of lot of our young people. Thanks for watching, and have a great Labor Day...
This is a great video! Why would someone give it a thumbs down? The title and description are not misleading and the video quality is great, considering it's age. No doubt another internet troll.....
Are you sure this is all in 77-78? Penn Central was done in 76 and Conrail had all the track and equipment that was once Penn Central's. I didn't see any early Conrail patches on any of the Engines or PC cars except for the last engine on the last clip. I would think Conrail would have patched all the engines over by this time.
They didn't. I saw pictures of Conrail locmotives still in Penn central paint around the early 1980s. I'm guessing all of them were patched or painted into Conrail colors in the early 80s. You still could see a lot of them still in Penn central paint around 1976-1978. I think it was around 1979 when almost all of them were patched. So yes, this is early Conrail.
At 4:17, the second U-boat in the consist was still wearing a New York Central cigar band style emblem. Surprising considering that at the time these clips were made even the Penn Central ceased to exist having been replaced by Conrail at least a few months earlier.
Every once in a while we would see NYC bands or ovals shinning through. I have a few rooster shots of PC units that are in the CR era, and the Pennsy Keystone is shinning through. Thanks for watching...www.flickr.com/photos/jackdk/19627229068/in/album-72157650761687270/
As a kid, I remember seeing several units that still had the PRR keystones into early Conrail. I grew up across from another "River Line"- the line between Conway, Pennsylvania and Mingo Junction, Ohio. The stretch from Conway to Yellow Creek is actually the Pittsburgh to Cleveland main line. From Yellow Creek (I can still remember the tower that protected the junction), the line continued north through Ravenna and Alliance, then on to Cleveland.
I'm a little confused here. All those locations in NJ are on the West side of the Hudson. Is that what you're calling the River line? Actually it's the old West Shore Line of the New York Central, now owned by CSX.
A very beautiful video. Now I know the 40' reefers were used with the 50' and 57' reefers in '77.
Thanks for preserving railroad history for future generations to see.
Thanks MrP. Glad you enjoy it, and I'm happy I can share it with all. Thanks for watching...
Your videos truly are the best Jack, thanks for sharing. I really enjoy them.

Nice. It's Ridgefield Park (two words)
I love these vintage train videos. I live in Haverstraw and was wondering if you had any footage from the 70’s on the West Hudson line?
Thanks Jason. I have a few on the River Line. Most being from Nyack south. Thanks for watching...
Have you ever thought of commercially selling DVD's of your videos?

@Michael Edwards, the west shore was called the River Line, the east shore was/is called the Hudson Line.
