Simply amazing. When I played this in high school the hardest parts for me was the triplets at the end and the high note which I believe is a C#. This is perfect.
Nailed this piece for solo and ensemble in high school, butchered it for the senior recital in front of everyone, quit trombone for 3 years to major in jazz bass, picked it back up over this last weekend to play for fun. Turns out I still remember this piece like the back of my hand.
OK, I loved the performance. Even more though, I loved the public comments, proving to me that trombonists are just good people. I so hate the RUclips posts that are followed by a page and a half of useless, self-aggrandizing (or self-pitying) statements about how much better they could do this in Junior High School. Great job, both by the musicians in the performance, and the musicians that commented. Made me smile!
Trombonists are definitely closer to normal people compared to most musicians;) I can say that as my sister earned her PhD. in Mus. Ed. and I played with the UT Symphonic Band after earning All-State Band in 1978 and a 2 at State solo-ensemble:)John in Texas
Beautiful centered dark tone. And the intonation ! I think this trombonist and James Markey of the U.S. have the finest sound among trombonists in the world today.
This is my all-state audition piece. It sound's beautiful! Can't wait to perform it! And you sure did it justice, your tone and musicality is amazimg!!! 👏👏👏
The best one I've heard so far on RUclips, Very clean, nice sound and musical interpretation. PLaying it by heart is a plus. I helped a few students prepare that piece for their conservatory auditions and every time, the trombone teacher was complimenting the student on his musicality. You should hear Christian Lindberg or Alain Trudel's version, they are the best you can hear and Lindberg's cadenza really rocks.
I remember earning a 2 at State Solo and Ensemble in Texas playing Morceau Symphonique just because the judge didn't like my vibrato technique. Hit both the pedal note B flat and the high C, both of which are a byatch to reach for many Trombonists. I'll bet that judge did not award a one for anyone that he judged that day. I had already made All-State Band in 1978, so I felt that I had done my best in band:)-John in Texas
He plays the whole composition by heart?! I'm absolutely impressed... I'm learning this "Morceau Symphonique", too, so I know how tough it is. I wonder how long he practised for this performance... Very good quality as well! Thanks for uploading =)
I’d honestly say this is a trombone’s version of the violin piece Paganini 24 as there are some very complex rhythms that last measures. The tone this guy has is marvelous and his accuracy is amazing.
absolutely amazing performance! found this video and used it as my inspiration and guide so I could play that c# and perform this in a in a studio recital, you're tone is amazing! very beautiful =) very well done
this is really nice. he plays it very smooth and his breath control is awesome, just wish that the "pp" was a little softer... this guy is amazing!! :D
@@rafaelb.9867 just focus on intonation, sound, and rythm. I wouldn't reccomend you play it unless you can hit a Bb by that's the highest note (omitting the C#)
@@g.l7219 well the top of my range would be a High D which is above high c#. My directors tell me to aim for the high c#. Only part that is really difficult is the trilla and fast scales. Any other pointers for that?
+MastodonRockss there is everything wrong with valve trilling , it sounds horrible, rotary valves cannot trill due to how they are built. the only rotary instrument required to trill are horns and that's to do rips and it's supposed to sound monsterous, and even then those aren't trills
Excellent playing - flawless intonation. hand/arm position and manipulation could be improved to eliminate undesired portamento. A much more relaxed physical posture would also yield gains in this excellent musician.
Your tone is VERY characteristic of what a trombone SHOULD sound like! Great playing, sir.
A big Aye to that! Looks like he's playing a big bore T-bone:)
響きがとっても鮮やかでとても勉強になりました!!
He's got the most incredible sound!
The C# gave me goosebumps!
Who else playing this solo for solo and ensemble or sum like it
Me next year, am a freshmen.✌
@TianpeiIt's still considered one of the TOUGHEST pieces in UIL music competition in Texas!
@Tianpei I am referring to the overall difficulty of just the Trombone part, and not the accompanist.....John in Texas
me as a 9th grader!! it really helped my extend my range but damn it was hard
I will this year as freshman. I don’t really care if I’m going to do this well because by the end of practicing this I will be so much better.
Simply amazing. When I played this in high school the hardest parts for me was the triplets at the end and the high note which I believe is a C#. This is perfect.
The high C and pedal note B flat are both buggers to hit and play well-John in Texas
It’s the trill that I struggle with
@@tomwood8912 just use a trigger in first position
@@tomwood8912 you can just trill the note by using your trigger
His tone quality is awesome, but the quality of the recording is horrible. The sound was recorded by the camera, which I'm assuming is a tomato.
I mean it was record 11 years ago 😂

That trill at the end was beautiful
Bravo! Thought that the flourish at the end was an F or other attachment, but looks like he did it through pure technique-Wow! John in Texas
Thanks for the excellent performance. Beautiful tone, excellent feeling, and I'm glad you did the trill near the end (many trombonists omit it).

Nice lip trill. Playing this for my jury this semester. Didn't realize just how similar this was to Barat. Thanks for the ideas.
Great sound and loved the cadenza!
This man is a legend. Well done. Edit: also thanks for putting this up on RUclips because it makes rhythms a lot easier to figure out 👌

I’m playing this solo for an upcoming jury. Is there any advice you have when playing this song?

Hey! Try playing on a bass trombone with a bigger mouthpiece and in a couple months you’ll get a decent low register on tenor trombone.

4:32-5:36 just awesome
Was it not a lip trill? I did think it was but I'm not a brass player...
reeds.
MauriatOttolink I know I'm just a bit late, but yes, it was a lip trill
This piece is the honor band music this year. GWILFDSBKCN It sounds soooo amazing
How do you do that trill .-. Lip or valve, I wanna know. Ive been doing valve for a while but no success
Play it in 4th position lip trill. You shouldn't ever play a trill with a valve...
Is it to Eb tho? Like D to Eb trill? .-.
Rustles WithJimmies
Nothing wrong with using the valve if it works. Conn even makes an alto trombone with a valve specifically for trilling lol.
+Trevor Wolf it's a C to D. you play it in fourth and just kinda go up and down
+MastodonRockss there is everything wrong with valve trilling , it sounds horrible, rotary valves cannot trill due to how they are built. the only rotary instrument required to trill are horns and that's to do rips and it's supposed to sound monsterous, and even then those aren't trills

Hm, what trombone are you using here?
Hi! It is Bach 42T with Bach 50 slide!
I have always wished the candenza went included the f4-5 major scale.
OML! Wish someone would do that 😭! Some recordings have done extra outside of what is written in the cadenza.
