Hey friends and welcome back to another extreme budget grocery haul challenge!! 🙌 @Frugalaussieadventures and myself have collabed today to bring you two videos FULL of extreme budget meals!! So be sure to head over to her channel and check out her video once you finish mine today! ruclips.net/video/7ivBubNWhl4/видео.html As always thanks for being here, I appreciate you! 💗💗💗
I came from Nikki's channel. It's great to see a few more Aussie frugal channels. The prices are so different in other countries. I know it doesn't work for an extreme budget challenge, but I buy seconds apples at a local fruit shop for $10 per 10kg box. We do live quite close to an apple growing area though. Most are fine to eat fresh and the rest I cook up. There are also often lots of other boxes of marked down fruit in season. A local IGA has really great fruit and veggie markdowns if you are there at the right time too. Mostly $1 a kilo.
Hey Lisa! Thanks so much for coming over to watch my video today! Those prices sound so good, would have saved me a tonne of money when I used to make up batches of apple sauce for my babies! I think I might have to look at the fruit shops around here and compare the prices. Thanks for sharing!
We dehydrate fresh fruit in the oven when it is on sale at our local green grocer. This means that we can have access to fruit throughout the year. In Summer, we will always splurge and buy some mangos (I'm in Queensland) dehydrate them, blitz them into a powder and the we have it to add to porridge, yoghurt, rice pudding throughout the year. We also have dehydrated apples, onion, tomatoes and mushrooms to add to dishes. You can also dehydrate a homemade black bean dip and hummus easily and it's delicious for hiking and lunches. My mum also dehydrates her sourdough starter if she is not going to use it for a while. It all takes more time, but has saved us so much money.
WOW! That’s incredible 🤩 I didn’t even know you could do that 😳 such a great idea! Especially making it into a powder to add to dishes! How long do the powdered fruits/veg last?
@@Mummakat We've kept powdered fruits and veggies in sterile jars for up to 3 months. I think it would depend on your climate and how you store it. It is definitely delicious though
The cost where I live in Florida is $47.02 for these groceries.the modifications I had to do for this shopping was garlic (was a lot cheaper fresh) and we don’t use golden syrup so I got honey for around the same price)
Maybe corn syrup in the US is similar to golden syrup, honey for Aussies is a luxury compared to golden syrup. Golden syrup comes from sugar I believe.
Yes that sounds about right. I think if honey was cheap makes sense as a substitute. Otherwise mild "pancake" not real maple syrup is more apples to apples usage wide vs like Karo syrup.
depending where we live grocery prices really different here in American. Meat is pricey and fresh veggies and fruit too. I use many frozen veggie etc because you can still get many if them for one dollar.
That’s interesting about the price differences around America! I mostly get frozen vegies aswell to prevent them going bad, thanks so much for watching today 💗
I purchased mini frozen dim sims from Woolworths for $10 ( 76 cents per 50g) , steamed it, and added them to a saucepan of half a can of vegetable soup that l purchased for $1.80 (90 cents for half a can). $1.66 per serve.
make your own simple drained yoghurt spread. buy yoghurt in bulk and use muslin cloth. its like a yummy cream cheese good for spreading. make your own yoghurt with 1/4 cup starter yoghurt and 2 L uht milk.
Thank you so much for sharing your budget friendly recipe. The cost of everything is going up so much lately. This video and videos like these will be helpful to a lot of people. Myself included. I do the best I can with budgeting but it’s great to learn more. I make cooking videos too and appreciate learning ways to make cooking more budget friendly from you. I hope we can learn more from each other.
I make oat cookies by mashing up 1 banana in a bowl and adding a cup of rolled oatsto it, and then a teaspoon of honey and some sultanas. I will do it your way from now on, since l always run out of bananas and never get the chance to make them.
Overripe bananas on clearance can be frozen, are awesome as an 'Icecream' substitute, they can be used in place of eggs for baking in many situations. Use oil instead of mag if using 70c cake mixes
If you are watching this because you are on a tight budget, ask your local fruit and veg shop for a chicken scraps box :) many are happy to give them or sell them cheaply. They contain ripe now items (learn how to preserve, even if you just cut off the gross bits and cook up fruit to freeze for later.) and offcuts such as outer leaves of lettuce etc. Great for stews, soups etc. Also watch out for cream on clearance, beat it to create butter.. Easy as, cheap butter.... To make homemade marg, blend butter with cooking oil of choice such as olive oil.
I made my own pasta, by mixing 1 cup of flour with 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt. I use a knife to cut up the dough into strips to make thin spaghetti 🍝
The breakfasts were great. Oatmeal and apple was another breakfast option. Anzac biscuits would be a nice treat during the day. I'm happy with pasta and a tin of tomatoes or a jar of pesto. I don't like tomato soup and I don't think Woolies have any other cheap options.
Hey girl! Love all these idea! Very budget friendly AND they looked delicious and flavorful! I enjoyed the variety of foods.. Thanks for sharing! I hope you have a wonderful day!🥰
if you don't have brown sugar, you can mix a tablespoon of molasses with a cup of sugar and make your own. :) I always have molasses because one jar lasts forever. I quit buying brown sugar years ago.
Sorry but you just changed my life 🤩🤣 no seriously I learned so much from this video and there will never be wasted bacon in this household again haha love you chook
I used to work with unprivileged teen mothers in helping them with life skills. I would loved to have this video as a reference on how to prepare affordable meals for their family. They were all on very limited income and had very few budgeting and cooking skills. Some didn’t even know how to cook scrambled eggs … they’d been brought up on take out.
I love that you did that for a job! What a beautiful person you must be! I hope my video can be used to help people in situations like that 💗 thanks so much for watching today!
Hi Katrina👋👋👋 I love your prep/cooking vids, this was great, I’m definitely making the egg cups, they look delicious. I hope your week started off well, TYFS, remain safe and blessed♥️💫✨👼🏻✨💫♥️
When saving .30 on an item, to save you have to think if I save .30 on every item (20 items x .30=), I would save 6 dollars that week. 6 dollars x 52 weeks, saves $312 a year. Every bit of savings makes a difference over time.
Very good video. Our eggs here in the US are about that price for free range as well. These are great challenges! For your homemade bread, if you use an electric knife, you will get clean edges if that's important to you :)
I know of at least 4 different places here in South Australia I can buy rejects/seconds fruit and veg. But some people need it to be flawless and perfectly shaped. I don't understand why people would rather go without than cut a small blemish off.
I love these type of videos Kat thankyou. I'm in Australia too and thankfully where we are the fruit has been fine but it was other things like rice, minced beef and yogurt that was out at my local woolies and Coles. I've been checking every second day and when things are there I get them. I like to be creative and improvise with what I have. I will be trying these recipes 😊
Thankyou! I’m so glad you are here and watching! We had no rice in our stores either and very minimal meat, definatly makes you need to get a bit more creative! 🙈 But I’m just grateful there are still options on the shelf and we are still fed 🙌 thanks so much for being here 💗
You're making homemade cookies, and here I am eating wafer biscuits. The packet of wafer biscuits (cookies) costed me only 57 cents to buy. l got it from Woolworths here in Melbourne, Australia 🐨🦘🇭🇲😁
What's worse with these big chain supermarkets the waste is crazy.of how much they throw away when there's so many people in need fruits and vegetables.are so expensive def needs to be so.ething put in place to help struggling families
In the states some stores will donate some items to local food pantries to be given out. But some won’t for fear of someone getting sick from eating something that might have turned bad.
Love the ideas! It’s so hard these days to eat healthy on a budget like this. Unfortunately I couldn’t cope well on these kinds of meals as I have insulin resistance / pre diabetes; I have to be very mindful of carb intake and don’t often eat a lot of bread. It’s crazy how high food prices are at the moment, there’s only one low carb sweetener I like and it’s $8.50 for 350g 😱
That’s so true, unless you grow your own fruits and veg, eating a healthy diet can cost a fortune! 🙈 I will work on a diabetic friendly budget video next time I think, I had gestational diabetes with my second baby and remember how few carbs I was able to eat daily, so I love the idea of making a video for diabetics. Thankyou for giving me the idea! 💗
Excellent ideas Kat! 👍 Even if you’re not on a super tight budget it’s really handy to have a few cheap meals in your repertoire. The store brand frozen vegetable mix, fresh carrots and odd bunch apples $2.80 are all ideas for getting cheap fruit and veg in your diet.
Totally agree! Thanks so much for sharing those tips too, I tried to get the mixed veg bag that I used last time but our stores freezers were basically empty 🙈 I never thought to try the odd bunch fruit though! Thanks for watching today Alexandra! 💗
i cant eat those cheap msg pkt soups or all that sugar. i have to cook gf df sf. i just have to or im sick. im interested to see your recipes and what i can modify.
The bread looked really yummy so I'll definitely be making it. The price of fruit in the UK is high as well, it's so sad that children have to go without good healthy fresh produce because of the cost. Being vegan I find my shopping bills going up and up, roll on spring so I can start growing fruit and veg again. 💞
They do, this is not the usual way we shop, I make these videos for entertainment and sometimes educational purposes. It doesn’t always reflect our real life. Hope that’s makes sense, Thankyou for watching 💗

Add a tablespoon flour to your egg cups, making them into crustless quiche, they won't dip in the centres .
I’ll have to try that next time, thanks so much for the tip! 💗
