Just taken a break from playing Shenmue II, when I found this video and thought it was great. Then I thought "Heh, it's funny how different Sainsbury's stores look alike. That looks just like my local one. And that bridge looks just like one near me. And that Natwest looks just like- OH, THEY'RE IN LANCASTER!"
Karasuat... I bet you were still wearing nappies and sucking you thumb when Shenmue was released, you will never ever experienced the beauty of this magnificently underrated game. The first game where you can work to earn money, go to local "you arcade" spend all day and night there, and go to the park and trained up your martial art skill. This game took me to another world like no other game has ever done... And never will another!! You just don't know young ass boy!!!
I've always been interested in Shenmue, but I've never played the games, so I'm not really sure if this is something I'd like. I can kind of empathize with Shenmue fans, though - I would support a #SaveViewtifulJoe campaign in a heartbeat. I need that third game in the VJ trilogy, and I need it bad!
Yes, let's campaign for the second sequel to a poorly selling series whose first game bankrupted SEGA! This is precisely why you don't leave your story on a cliffhanger, that's bad storytelling 'cough every Golden Sun game 'cough'.
The original actually sold very well and was one of the best selling Dreamcast games. It just didn't match it's gargantuan budget. And the sequel was hindered by obvious reasons, nothing to do with the game itself. Shenmue III would undoubtedly cause a stir, enough to sell very well w/a modest budget. It's a better investment right now than gambling on a brand new series.
If they ever make a a third, these are exactly the guys who will be crying it wasn't good enough, it wasn't true to the originals, it wasn't worth the wait, I hope it never gets made.
Even if this does happen, Yu Suzuki (the original creator of Shenmue) no longer works for Sega. In other words there is no guarantee that the finished product would be anything that Yu Suzuki had in mind.
In an ideal situation, Sega would just give the licence back to Yu, seeing as SEGA don't want Shenmue and he does... then he can approach any studio he wants with a proposal. Probably won't happen, but that doesn't mean that the Shenmue community will give up!

If this series was over rated then we would be seeing too many adaptions released that it would eventually kill it for us. It really talks to a game's quality when even it's fans don't talk about the actual gameplay 10 years after it's release. You know, when the only thing that comes up are forklift trucks, gashapon, 80's arcade games, and sailors (the pointless distractions and an unfunny joke). It was always a bad game but it just got alot worse with age. You probably lament the current state of Sega but guess what? It's Shenmue's fault. Chew on that for a while.

There are slow paced games and there are games that make you wait in 6 hours real time to progress.
