Hello, Can you tell me what type of reed switch that is? Also, what does it take to make the reed switch work the opposite way, meaning when you pull the magnet away the light turns on/stays on. Can you make a short video of it doing that? Thanks
Ball bearing in metal tube, cork with 1 electrode. Old sabotage trick. Lead sinker in drinking straw, both electrodes in the cork. Endless variations on this.
Ebay: mercury tilt swtich or ball tilt swtich It is more convenient the ball tilt switch because mercury is dangerous... www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xmercury+til.TRS0&_nkw=mercury+tilt&_sacat=0 www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=tilt+switch&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xball+tilt+switch.TRS0&_nkw=ball+tilt+switch&_sacat=0
mopatin Thanks for the head's up - I have posted a crude video of my own on how to make your own mercury free tilt / position / acceleration switch using PVC pipe, motor oil, ball bearings, and screws with nuts - but I would love to find something more professional - not so "clunky" - but with a decent current rating (I estimate my version could handle 10 amps at 12 VDC - higher voltages might require a different kind of oil.) I'll "subscribe" to your channel and wait for your post.
thx for response ..but the thing is that i don't go to my garage very often cause it's a a storage garage actually ,and i didn't find any bit of mercury cause it all scatterd all over the place and i cant clean it up cause i have a lot of things in the garage .....i have 4 windows opened and i don't know if that's enough to get the job done....im afraid if someone i know enters the garage after one week or so and get poisoned from the mercury vapor
Not so dangerous. Pure mercury is less toxic than people think. The problem with mercury is the compounds like methil-mercury found in fish, etc. Think that not long ago dentistry fills were made with mercury and silver and they used more mercury than the contained in your switch.
Yes it is. Mercury is poisonous, so you have to care not to break the blisters. Other precaution is the max current before the mercury could boil, so it is for not many amperes. Mine specs are: 0.8A/20V

thanks brother for this simple video..... this video is simple but very effective to understand how both switch works
Thank you too for commenting!

Thanks! Nice and short and quiet!
our doorbell has a mercury tilt switch inline with the striker magnet and coupled to the striker, so if you hold the button it spams it automatically

Thanks bro, where did you get so big one, I was looking on aliexpress, their are too small
Could you use a metal bead instead of mercury? What about some sort of salt solution that conducts electricity?
With ball yes: ruclips.net/video/GJNkVJWM3Zc/видео.html
Not with salt solution, because you would generate electrolysis ...

can mercury use on the electronic 120 volts AC or not
+bestamerica It depends on current. Too many amperes would heat the mercury.
Where do you get the tilt switches?

El vapor del mercurio no se sale del switch?
No mientras no se rompa. Es lo mismo que en los termómetros.
how to find positive negative
IT is the same. It is only a switch, no positive nor negative
@@tinkerbit ok
Where are these switches mainly used ?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_switch
In bombs, (and thermostats) but the EPA has made it very hard to find them in the USA because of the mercury content.
gabbyjim I have just found tilt switches without mercury. I will soon publish a video with them...

mopatin Can't they use a gallium alloy that's liquid at room temperature? I seem to recall there are safe liquid metals.
I don't know any alloys that are liquid low enough for it to even be useful as these are usually used in thermostats.
