I disagree with Charlotte (19:42) about how nothing has changed. The right has actually loosened gun laws, making it easier to purchase a gun at 18 years old and with laws such as open carry without a license laws. She made an amazing point, just wanted to strengthen it by stating what has happened during living in four states with a very right-heavy government over the past 15 years. It's worse now. The school shooting in Iowa was pretty much out of the news before the caucuses in Iowa, which was just a few days later.
Completely true I moved to Iowa from Florida 2 years ago for work & this isn't even the first school shooting since I've been here!

It's not a state thing, it's a federal thing, and that's the problem. States can only go so far before they inevitably get slapped down on a federal level. I've lived in California for over 25 years and there have been dozens of school shootings here.
No matter what state you're in, a psychopath will be able to get quick and easy access to firearms to carry out their acts of terror because the NRA and other lobbyists have our federal government by the balls with a vice-like grip to ensure the United States from sea to shining sea has readily available firearms for the populace.

One thing that frustrates me is when the narrative gets co-opted. Closing person to person gun selling guns loop holes, making it mandatory to have background checks and other common sense laws to make it a little harder to buy guns, gets twisted into, “they want to take away our guns”.

I agree and applaud Lucy’s stance on the Iowa school shooting. I do disagree with the conflating of “political” and “partisan”. Lucy’s stance might not be explicitly partisan but it is clearly political because one of the key ways to address the alarming amount of gun violence in the U.S. is through the political process and we don’t need to shy away from that. Not acknowledging that the way to address this issue is not just through emotional appeals but through engaging with the political process makes it harder to change the status quo

Dan and the team should practice radical acceptance on social issues. There are some things that are completely out of your control. Does that mean that you don't do anything about it, but you accept it and move on to working on mitigation efforts. It's like seeing a huge wave coming at you, and you don't stop to think why the tsunami is coming or where the earthquake happened. You move on to planning how to get out of the way or how to swim. Then focusing on root causes gets easier once you've swam to safety.

Dan, they're starting from the premise or mindset of "OBVIOUSLY it's not guns fault that this shooting happened" and then they go from there. They supposedly do care about the kids (although they don't if they're unwilling to even consider it might be the guns!!!) but think guns simply aren't the issue.

Look, I agree with the takes on why this is happening, however you are completely missing the other sides argument. No matter how much you or I believe guns are to blame, the other side does not view it that way. So by saying that you are the one making it political (to them). Nobody disagrees with slaughtered children, and from what I understand Luci didn't just explicitly say that slaughtered children are a bad thing, she said that Kim Reynolds policies are the reason these terrible acts are happening. That's what you are missing. They don't only want to win an argument. They also want to solve the problem. They just have skewed facts and beliefs about what guns are/do. Many people think more guns are the answer to dissuade these events, no matter how incorrect you or I may believe or what the data says. All you are doing by questioning this stuff is encouraging their beliefs about how wrong your side is. Thanks for talking about tough issues, it's important. Much love.
