The main characters is pretty relative to arc. natsu & Lucy are constraint main characters but they journey with another 2 to 4 other rotating Fairy Tail members who just as important in that arc, Erza, Gray, Mirajane, Juvia, Weny, Gajeel, kana etc. some arcs stories progression, backstory etc even evolves around them more than natsu & Lucy. So it sort of misleading to the importance of other characters though out, It simplify it easier just to say fairytale is the character then explaining all that. It's like telling someone Wolverine is the main character of Xmen, even with the most screen time that hugely misleading to the concept.

Fairy tail is a good show to watch if you wanna have a good time, see some dope fights, and enjoy a heartfelt shounen anime. It’s got a great soundtrack and while the story might be a little weak compared to other longer anime, it’s still worth a watch in my opinion.
I think that if somebody wants something with nice story, they should definitely watch shorter anime like Higurashi no naku koro ni, Shiki, Tasogare otome x amnesia...
I don't think the story is weak. The lore and plot devices are pretty interesting. Every character that has any focus at all serves a purpose down the line. The weak points of the series are definitely the fighting and world building. People compare it to One Piece, but I don't really see the comparison outside of the superficial aspects that a lot of other shows do as well, even those pre-dating One Piece.
for such a long anime like fairy tail the story is pretty good and very engaging actually, the concept itself of what is going on is genius, its just the execution that isn't. (when i say execution i mean how the main cast solve the issue).
No legit Fairy Tail is my biggest comfort anime. I started watching it when I was 14 and now I’m 20, and it’s still one of my favorite anime’s today. I’ve seen the openings so much it’s wild, but I love watching people react to the openings and trying to figure out wtf is going on in the show

That red dragon is Natsu’s adoptive dad(his name is Igneel)and Natsu is a dragon slayer. Everybody that’s a dragon slayer has a dragon as a dad or mom, except 2 of them(guy with yellow hair and uses lightning magic his name is Laxus and the guy that has the purple hair with a scar on his eye his name is Eric)because they didn’t develop their dragon slayer magic from normal ways(Being raised and taught the magic by actual dragons). Also if you go back to OP 16 all of them that are walking beside each other at the beginning of the OP are dragon slayers and it’s one more at middle or end can’t remember he has purple hair with a scar on his right eye.
