A stellar field heads to the Emerald Isle as the 2023 Horizon Irish Open takes place at The K Club. It returns to The K Club for the first time since 2016, when Rory McIlroy famously claimed the title as he eagled the final hole to win by three strokes and earn his first title as a professional golfer. McIlroy returns this week to the place where it all started. He’ll be feeling confident after securing automatic qualification to Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup Team and finished 3T in the TOUR Championship last week. Shane Lowry will also be among the field. He’ll be buoyant after being selected as a Captain’s pick by Luke Donald this week. He played well for a 12T finish at the Scottish Genesis Open in July. Adrian Meronk returns to defend his title this week. He made history as the first Polish winner on the DP World Tour by winning this event 12 months ago at Mount Juliet Estate. He’ll fancy his chances after claiming victory twice on the Tour this year. Others to look out for are Tyrrell Hatton, Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott.

I'd like to see Rory just play a round freely without any pressure or thoughts in his mind. It looks like he is overthinking every shot
100% agree, someone down the line probably told him „you need to play more conservative“, probably why he’s been top 10 for 10 years, but probably also why he hasn’t performed as stellar as he could‘ve
When millions are on the line and it’s your job you would take ur time and think about things more thts why u off 20
I don’t think it’s possible. This is big boy golf. If he played that way he’d probably play worse. When it comes down to it when Rory shows up with his putting he wins.
You appreciate how skilled these guys are when you see how they can pull off good shots in such bad spots

He's having trouble reading the line, which is why he's hitting the putt a little harder to make the line disappear.
I think sometimes he's not square through the ball when he's putting but it looks better the last few weeks.

He needs to learn a green reading system like aim point or Tour read. It’s clearly not enough for him to eye ball greens and feel it. His speeds are always so good but his lines are slightly off. A lot of guys on tour use these systems, it stuns me that he doesn’t implement it.

One thing I have noticed with Rory is that unless he is jamming the ball in the hole he is making very little. You could watch every round he has played recently and thought he could and should have been 3 or 4 shots better - that's just not a recipe for success and must be so frustrating for him and his team.
Over 40 players shot lower than rory … some shot 4-6 shots better than him 😂
Also any player who’s on the Ryder cup team who misses the cut or plays bad in this event should be replaced

@@mikeyt3784 sorry , I didn’t feel like writing a paragraph or two like in the golf media 😂 and Ryder cup doesn’t matter at all , it does mean more money eventually for players , being associated with being on the Ryder cup team , but they don’t get paid for playing , it’s one of the biggest scams in golf , making millions off the event , but being on the Ryder cup means nothing in the end , tiger woods is the greatest golfer ever and no one ever talks about his Ryder cup history , which isn’t good either , majors are the only thing that matters , like any other sport , Michael Jordan could’ve been known for just having 30 points per game , never winning and championships , but he wouldn’t have been one of the best to ever play without winning 6 , Tom Brady wouldn’t be anything without winning all his Super Bowls , if he had won multiple pro bowls , it would’ve have mattered , and the Ryder cup doesn’t matter , some of the best players in the world have lost the Ryder cup several times , and they’re the best in the world because they’ve won the most majors
The more expectation and pressure he gets the worse he plays and the more “Rory fatigue” sets in. I feel sorry for the guy a bit, he can’t really win.

His record is superb. Sure he hasn't won as much as he could have but he almost certainly is playing some of the best golf of his career this year. He has been in the hunt almost every week.
@@Essydyk it's been a decade since a major and he's not the level of player he was back then. He's got the tools but not the confidence or motivation. I think he wins one more major and that's it. I don't think he has the drive
