- In this video, we explain the concepts of nuclear sharing and nuclear deterrence. We look at the history of nuclear weapons in Europe with the USA and Russia during the Cold War, which countries today have nuclear weapons in Europe, and what the future presence of nuclear weapons on the continent might look like with the ongoing nuclear threat from Russia and Vladimir Putin.
In light of the growing Kremlin rhetoric on the possibility of using nuclear weapons, should we really be afraid of nuclear war? Is it time for other European countries to have access to nuclear arms? And could countries like Poland become part of a nuclear sharing programme and have nuclear weapons as a result of these increasing Russian threats? What might US policy towards nuclear weapons look like if Donald Trump wins the election? Will US nuclear weapons disappear from Europe and what could be the future of the nuclear sharing programme?
