I have a mental opposition to scooped sound, BUT I have guitars with the Broadways and with the Signatures as an experiment. I like the Broadways more. One tweak of the EQ on my board and it sounds how I want, and I get the string that feels better and sounds warmer (which is better to my ear)
I put a set of. Broadways on my Acoustasonic Tele a while back and it sounds and play great! Love the fact with Stringjoy you can mix and match and get any type of custom sets you want. They are available to email or call with questions and talk things over. Great company, great strings and fantastic customer service. My GO-TO string company…..! Great demo Andy….Thanks…..‼️
Thanks for doing this, Andy. I wanted to try the Broadways, but now I can hear that hex core is right for me, without testing on my own. Sparkle is important to my tone.
I just got my broadways in and now I know I want to slip them on before my next session with the guys. I’m more in the rhythm with distorted/fuzzier parts so I think these will let me sit back a bit and let the better player have more room on top to do his thing.
Incredible demo Andy! I've been using the standard balanced tension Stringjoy's on one of my guitars (A Jenning's Voyager with McNelly Autumn Pick-ups). I think I need to try the Broadways on this guitar next.
Thanks for the comparison. I've been asking the same question myself. Took a chance and ordered randomly, and if your examples hold true on my guitars, I think I made the right call.
You are a champ in everything you do, Andy. I love Stringjoys and have been using them for some time now. Thank you for shining a light on the tonal differences. I dig them both. Stay safe, man. We need you out here.
The signatures were definitely brighter but the Broadways had a really cool low end. And, I've found that les pauls like nickel strings, which rings true here.
Just received my first batch. A few of each to compare. Trying the Signature strings first , your video is spot on, I can definitely hear the crispness and sizzle. Playing on my Novo Serus J with Fralin P90's, tomorrow I will try them out at volume during festival show, plugged into my Combo Bogner Shiva. Stoked to hear these then try the Broadway series next week.
Because of your demo, I ordered a three pack! I also have G&L Legacy and a Bluesboy. You info had me sold and I can't wait to put them on! Thank you!! 🎸🎸
@@GregoryHillSr I got a pair of the broadways on my G&L and love them so far! They really mellow out the high frequencies that were plaguing my tone. Plus they’re super bendy
Tried the signatures and liked them a lot for my Strat. Very different from other string brands I’ve tried. Giving the broadways a shot now, thanks for the comparison. Liking that sound of the broadways with high gain.
How did you like the Broadway's for the strat? I love the feel of a strat body but I'm not a huge fan of the sparkly jangly sound so I'm looking for something more warm sounding.
@@corruptedCROWN I like the feel of the broadways a lot better. Wasn't sure about the sound at first but after a while it grew on me and I had to change my grip a little bit to get it to sound how I wanted. After an adjustment period I prefer the broadways entirely.
Stringjoy strings really stretch quickly too. They hold tune really well & unlike DR & D’Addario strings, I have never had a Stringjoy string unwind at the ball end. 👍🏻👍🏻
Might seem odd to write, but on the power-cords the Broadway seemed to have more "voices". I definately liked that. However for just overall I liked the Signatures. I ordered some Signatures. Be fun to try! Thank you for the very good video.
The tonal difference was much more apparent on the single-coils than with the humbuckers, to my ears, anyway, especially when comparing the two sets on the LP at high-gain.
I don’t know if I’m crazy but I preferred the round core on the Strat but preferred the hexagonal on the Les Paul. I’m curious to see how this comparison would sound on an extremely chimey guitar like a Jaguar with the strangle switch on. Thanks Andy!
I prefer the Broadway in every demo I have ever heard.. They seem to me to have more going on, more complex tone , yes a distinct vintage vibe there imo. Yeah they are a bit scooped when compared to the sigs but they have dials for that if you want to change that. I just put a set on a Fender Jag today and am ordering a couple more set today as well to evaluate on a Tele style rig. Been using StringJoy Sigs for about a year and a half to this point. They are imo the best strings I have ever played in my 40 years of playing giutar and have great service.
Sounds like they both have their place. A lot would depend on the guitar and typical playing style. Pure nickel sounds really good most of the time but I do believe the Signatures sound better on Some things especially the more modern distorted tones.
I thought I was going to like the pure nickel ones best, but the plated ones sound better to me, fuller and brighter without fizz. I use Optima Gold right now. They feel and sound great and last longest of all the strings I've ever used, but I'm gonna try a set of Strongjoy Nickel Plated.
Looks like I need to get a set of those Broadways. I've been happy with the Signatures, but for the kind of playing and kind of guitar I have, I think the Broadways sound a bit better.
I've used a round core type of string for most of my time playing guitar. They always seem to hold up better from a thrashing and tuning isn't an issue either for me.
Andy, Signature or Broadway for a Les Paul in 10's ? Just your opinion on which to start with. If I don't like the one I started with, I'll try the other :-)
Just tried a set of Broadways on my SG and had to take them right off. The wound strings sounded dull and the plain strings sounded harsh by comparison. Love the Signature Balanced, though.
I've been using GHS boomers on my LP I think these are round core and they sound so dull on the LP, I'll definitely gonna check out the signature hex core to see if I can get more snap on the wrapped strings
Broadways with single coils and the signature for the humbuckers seemed to have the best balance. Mellowed out the single coils and added a bit more top end to the Les Paul
Andy do you play with a pick in this demonstration. It looks like you hold your fingers as if you are holding a pick but it seems you are playing without a pick. Can anyone clear this up for me?
The round core broads sound better to me they have more power, sustain and and more punchy. The sigs sounded brighter but not the right kind of bright more like a squashed bright
What are the differences between nickel plated and pure nickel? because pure nickel is wrapped on the steel wire and nickel plated is wrapped on the steel wire so im confused what is the difference
If that's what you took from this demo instead of Hearing the difference in Tone and core shape.. Then you should just go buy some Ernie Ball strings. 46 to 48 is Not that drastic. If it were 46 to 60.. That would be something to whine about.
The guys at stringjoy tried are trying to sell me the Broadways for my acoustics. They say they are made like when strings were just strings. So essentially they are the original acoustic string. And I'm like then why don't you say that on the package instead of selling them strictly as electric strings. I just don't buy it. I wanna try em buy they are 20 bucks a pack and I know they're gonna be dead in a week anyway. I'm a sucker for vintage sound though. I know I'm gonna end up doing it and changing strings twice in one day cause my guitars gonna sound like trash.
You rock Andy! Thanks so much for doing this 🤘
Wow the broadways are definitely more scooped in the midrange on the distorted tones! I didn't expect that at all. Thanks for the comparison.
yellokrab Yeah that was unexpected eh? I thought it would only affect high end!
That’s a dealbreaker for me I do not like scooters at all
@@tonymarinelli7304 I actually liked the scooped sound. I guess this all about fine tuning your rig.

I love Stringjoy. Their sig strings feel denser. They ring so well and provide great feel and control while bending or vibing the string.
I have been using Broadways on my Tele for a while now. I love the tone!

Demo'ing strings is some Master Level shit! Great job, dude. I dig the Sigs for that extra clang and stang.
lot of good work here , hard to do in demo form appreciated👏👏

Especially on the Strat, more of a "mid-range" bump and smoother highs with the Broadways, which almost gets "too dark" on the Les Paul.
The signatures were definitely brighter but the Broadways had a really cool low end. And, I've found that les pauls like nickel strings, which rings true here.

I really like the way those mids sound on the pure nickles
I’ve seen this video awhile back.. and it lend me to now be using the broadways on my guitars, great video 👍🏽
Amazing comparison, Andy. Supet helpful. Thanks for another great video

Pure nickels for me. Imo strings and picks does bigger difference then swaping pickups (if you are in similar ball park pickups of course)

That G&L Legacy is my favorite from your guitars, by far
I could hear the differences between each set... the Broadways are definitely the way I’m leaning towards 👍🏽

Regarding STRING TENSION...
Do Signatures and Broadway's provide identical tension...(when using same guage tuned to same pitch, of course)
Sig 1:43 Broad 2:17
Sig 2:52 Broad 3:20
Sig 3:48 Broad 4:13
Howdy. Did the lighter gauge lows for broadways soften ‘em a little, feel wise?
Tom Dembinski Good question, even if they were exact gauge, the pure nickel Broadways would feel a little more “slinky” due to the softer material.
AndyDemos Thanks Andy. Look forward to giving them a try. 😎

I've been using Ernie Ball. But these sound better. I think I'm going to switch. Plus they're made in Tennessee where I'm from.
It’s almost like you’ve changed pickups. Unbelievable difference
Hi Andy! Which string sounds more twangy from these two? I know single coils pickups are part of the deal. But which stands out more?
Emmanuel Alejandro They can both sound twangy but the Signatures have a lot more top end. Thanks!
wow round core has hendrix tone
there goes my hero, watch him as he goes
I definitely like the Broadways tone on the Strat better.

Broadways with single coils and the signature for the humbuckers seemed to have the best balance.

Lmfao the difference is one is nickel plated and one is pure nickel.
I prefer the broadways on everything but heavy distortion for sure but I can’t justify the $3 price difference.
wow round core has reverb
Was Andy fired (for not using a pick)?
I thought pure nickel meant the core is nickel as well?
I've noticed you used 10-48 on the signature strings and 10-46 on the Broadway's. Not the same guage.
