I have a mountain dwarf battlerager concept but he wants to use the Unarmored Defense, yet be able to use the battlerager abilities. My idea is to have my dwarf battlerager use spiked gauntlets and spiked leather bands around arms legs and torso plus a spiked helmet. It's technically not armor and thus allows Unarmored Defense yet it'd offer some protection, think extreme studded leather,. Thoughts?
Check with your dm I mean if your unarmored defense is higher than your spikes armor which it might be, then I can see that working out. With the battle ranger your going to get hit no matter what cus of reckless and all your others tenacious abilities. I can’t see it mattering tooo much
I have a plan for ex-slave of duergar goblin, who was used as meat shield fighter and have seen battlerager armor once or twice. After one battle he was left on the battlefield and decided to desert, because anyway he was considered *unalive*. On the surface he started to collect various knives and broken swords and melted and hammered them into crude spiked armor.
Nice introduction and explanation of the subclass! Have an idea for a spelljammer one-shot with the battlerager barb flavored as a punk rocker. Spiked armor - spiked leather jacket, rage - rocking out, level 3 ability - moshing, etc.
Watched the video again and I do like the point you bring up about Spiked Retribution. Three damage seems tiny in a vacuum but feels much better when getting hit multiple times and when viewed as an addition to the damage done on your turn. Great job highlighting that! Seems like the spiked armor bonus action attack has good synergy with the dwarven fortitude racial feat. Dodge to get a heal (1d12 hit die + con mod) while still maintaining rage through the armor melee attack, making the barbarian less reliant on external healing from others. Helps make them even more durable with the temp HP they’re also getting.
I really feel the battle rager was given a bad wrap. Looking closely at it I was surprised that this subclass was so good. I am so glad you enjoyed it!!!
Congratulations on the 2k subscribers, well deserved! Do battlerager feats apply if you are thrown? Im contemplating a duo consisting of a Dwarven battlerager and a Goliath path of the Giant barbarian..you can see where im going with this ?
You could also multi class with fighter for unarmed fighting style. Mostly for the d4 damage when you’re grappling someone. Then multi into rogue and have your main weapon be a short sword (could do rapier, but I don’t like them) and reckless attack with short sword for always on sneak attack. If your dm allows your unarmed strikes be with your armor then you basically headbutt with your spiked helm for d8 plus all the extras as a bonus action. Man now I kinda want to play one!
That’s cool I love the use short sword cus I hate rapier’s!!!. It’s a hard pill to swallow not doing full dmg but if you can hold them down it’s a blood bath for all the melee’s in your group. If you had a Paladin that’s just crit fishing. Rogue even better walk up attack bonus action disengage. I think it gives you an incentive to not just walk up and punch
@@TheSinisterheroes haha yeah I don’t like the rapier quite as much. Just not the fit for my kind of character. And short swords are barely less in average damage. I think I’d probably do five levels of barbarian for extra attack then do the rest in rogue for sneak attack damage to stack and add up. Especially when you’re going for crits. And even though we get advantage already im taking expertise in athletics for even better grappling. Which type of rogue would you choose?
I want to play this one with Loxodon. Grappling foes with the Trunk. Otherwise, traditionally, Duergar. Regardless of race, I'm grabbing Medium Armor Master, Tavern Brawler, and Shield Master. The background would be Urchin as they naturally move fast to avoid others. Makeshift spikes with Tinkers & Leather Tools.
I like the idea of just using one armor set of spikes, then just getting it enchanted as you move forward. I mean they just need to over come resistance
You might be correct. Lol grungs are wildly unique. It would be great to see in game. The theory and theme is all there and you can almost see it you know.
@@TheSinisterheroes grappling might be difficult but there's a few hight changing magic items you could also probably do rules for mounting large creatures
@@TheSinisterheroes on a lower note my favorite dnd conversationalist i may have started a tiktok whoop whoop also it's just really fun grappling and jumping around bigger creatures doing mhw stuff
It’s a little outside of the box but if you can hold someone it’s about as close as you can get to a taunt ability and for a round or 2 you can get a party member to a safe place and keep those squishies safe
If you think about it, each time someone attacks you while you are raging you are taking half damage, but you are absorbing even more damage thanks to the temporary hit points and more of that the opponent is taking damage for doing it. Than each time you grapple someone you are wasting at least his action and at the same time you are doing damage for that, in the end the only reason why I think this subclass looks bad is because of how is presented, a cringe meme, a stupid subclass for stupid idiot dwarves, when in reality if you remove that restriction and you think something like Kirk as you said, this subclass becomes cool af! I really loved this video, I agree with everything you said and yeah, this subclass it's clearly underrated.
Thank you for that. I thought the same thing when I first looked at it, then as I really took the abilities away from the negativity I realized the stuff people hated about it were really strange. A lot of people hated it for the ac of spiked armor. But most of the time you will be raging and using reckless attack, so everything will have advantage on hitting you anyway. Once I connected those dots I really saw this subclass and absolutely fell for it.
As things progress they do become stronger, unfortunately the older subclasses will have difficulty. Unless of course there really towards the top of the power ranking. I am glad you agree with the subclass being underrated!
You really thought hard to make this somewhat antiquated subclass viable. I have heard many players dont like to play Barbarian cuz class's gameplay gets too simple. This might be good change of pace. These guys also tried to make this class viable as well ruclips.net/video/dMKDhYpHlwU/видео.html

Yes!!! That’s great it sets up your own enemies, and it gives you a logical reason to be that particular subclass. I am with it

Overlooked race if your DM allows non-dwarves: Loxodon. They can use their trunks to grapple even if both hands are full.
Oh dip I didn’t even think that. That lets you use your weapons in a real way that makes sense
