Bridear is one of the OGs on the scene. I remember the first time I heard their song "Light in the Dark" back in the day. It was a revelation for me lol
As you know, Japanese metal is on an incredible roll, especially the women, who are kicking ass on an epic scale. Founded in 2011, Bridear are one of the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands. They have undergone a few lineup changes, and have experimented with various styles, but they always come back to their foundation of hard-driving metal-inflected rock. They have the quintessential twin-lead attack and technical rhythm section. Here is the original lineup: Kimi-Vocals Haru-Bass, growls Misa-Guitars, growls Mitsuru-Guitars (pink flying V) Kai-Drums In 2019, Kai left to start a family, Misa left to pursue her own musical vision, Mitsuru soon followed, and they had to bebuild. Amazingly, they did so without any loss in quality, finding Misaki and Ayumi on Guitar, and Natsumi, formerly of Telecide, to take over on drums (after a brief trial with another drummer). Second Lineup: Kimi-vocals Haru-bass, growls/metal vocals Misaki-Guitar, audience left Ayumi-Guitar, audience right Natsumi-Drums I saw them live in London just after this lineup came together, and they were explosive, playing mostly stuff from the original lineup. They have experimented with a variety of styles, dabbling in progressive and pop, but they still come back to their metal roots. In “Brave New World Revisited” (ruclips.net/video/_6-OXcyMkYI/видео.html) they’ve got a masterpiece. It’s also a tour-de-force for their brilliant young guitarist Ayumi, who has also taken on a lot of the writing for the band. In early 2022, Misaki, who suffers from severe stage fright, left the band for health reasons, and they scrambled to find a new co-lead guitarist. They have been joined by Moe, and their first release with her on board showcases some great dual shredding between her and Ayumi. From the original lineup: “Thread of the Light” (live) ruclips.net/video/enbjKqMOTe4/видео.html “Light in the Dark” ruclips.net/video/CN3KDIBdosQ/видео.html “Ignite” ruclips.net/video/LQIDqudG_DQ/видео.html Second Lineup: “Starlight” ruclips.net/video/4lq90GqRxiE/видео.html “Bloody Bride” ruclips.net/video/CN3KDIBdosQ/видео.html “Brave New World Revisited” ruclips.net/video/_6-OXcyMkYI/видео.html Third Lineup: “Road” ruclips.net/video/vcsUpWW0UZk/видео.html “Eyes of Doubt” ruclips.net/video/_oNn9Wg-vNQ/видео.html (This was written by new member Moe.) They released their new album “Born Again” in June, and it’s a banger. BURRN called it a masterpiece. Metal Hammer compares them to Lovebites. They have posted two video singles from the album: “Still Burning” (you just watched this) and “Cult” ruclips.net/video/ohFf1pwwoz0/видео.html . They have also posted a live video of the title song from the album: ruclips.net/video/H3Yrr7Ssk54/видео.html.
Love it when Haru gets her growl on. It's so much fun. She took over for former guitarist Misa. Kimi occasionally would growl as well, but not so much these days. There is a recent Arch Enemy cover they did where Kimi gives the harsh vocals a try.
I was never a big metal fan , but this is one of the bands that converted me. Natsumi the drummer is incredible, she does some double kicks that make my legs burn and I am sitting still! The Sukiyaki sisters put up some cover RUclips videos on Fridays. Born Again is a great album, and the live version of the title song is great the vocal harmonies really stood out for me.
I'm a fan since I saw them live three years ago - I went to the concert out of curiosity, because they were nearly the only band touring Europe during the pandemic, and I was hooked! They're even better live IMO. Singer Kimi and bassist/growler Haru are the only original members of this already "old" band (forme in 2012), but I love the current line-up with thunderous Natsumi on drums and the "fake sisters" Ayumi and Moe on guitars (their cover duet "Sukiyaki sisters" seems to confuse some people 🙂).
Pascal you did it again mate great call . Bridear heavy full no BS rock , they are 4 foot something power rockets .Roll on UK April got tickets to all of their 6 shows .
Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad! Damn good band. I first heard of them when the guitarists started showing up in my recommendations playing covers together. I only got to play with my oldest brother one time before he moved across the country and got all out of practice. We had really good musical chemistry, though we mainly played Hendrix, Floyd, Cream, and Sabbath.
Another great reaction guys!!!!! These girls need more exposure, so thank you!!!!! Haru (Bass/Growler) is so cute!!!!! There is a 2-part video of these girls trying Swedish licorice that is quite hilarious that you might want to check out, not for a reaction!!!!! Thank you for what you do!!!!!
I love Bridear. I been listening to them since 2019 and even though theyre not as big as Lovebites. They have a great under dog dilvery. I love Bridear and some of their older stuff is mad heavy
Thank you for the reaction. Surely BRIDEAR is an awesome band with full energy. One thing to note is that the guitarists are not blood related sisters and they call themselves "Sukiyaki Sisters" when thet shoot guitar cover videos. I love BRIDEAR next to LOVEBITES. No dates yet but they will be touring in the US in 2025.
This record is actually recorded here in Sweden as the MV and the sexy drums is borrowed from a Swedish drummer for this video... Don't remember now who it was.
This band actually formed 2 years before Band-Maid. They have a lot of really great songs by the way. They were a lot more metal in the earlier years. Might want to try "Thread of the Light" MV official. ruclips.net/video/enbjKqMOTe4/видео.html This is one of their earlier songs. It's metal.
Thank you for taking up a Japanese female musician. When talking about Japanese female metal bands, BRIDEAR is a must. Recommended numbers include BRAVER WORDS, GHOUL, EYES OF DOUBT, IGNITE, etc. Guitar riffs and twin leads that evoke the 80s. Drum work. Modern rock and catchy melody lines are one of a kind. Please give them a listen. Japan Rock!
MOE & AYUMI are not sister life but they've made a guitar duet knows as SUKIYAKI SISTERS make covers in BRIDEAR RUclips chanel. I ❤ This band . The savage Drums skills of NATSUMI combined to heavy pick bass line of HARU make this massive rhythm section. BRIDEAR had a hugh power up with the conbine arrival of NATSUMI & AYUMI in 2019 now the band is perfect since 2022 and MOE arrival. KIMI & HARU are original member since 2012. Another incredible song is they're Prog-metal hit : name BRAVE THE NEW WORLD REVISITED. It's a 7m52 second song.
Love Bridear. I think just about one of the first Japanese bands to tour overseas during/tail end of the COVID pandemic. Even bettter they venrured as far as Glasgow Scotland not just London which is what most foreign bands (i.e. Lovebites, Rolling Quartz, Fate Gear). Saw them Glasgow October 2021 and September 2022. Seeing then again there this coming April. I think they are getting better and better. THe two lead guitarists (Ayumi and MOE) really gel together. Love their sub project as the Sukiyaki Sisters. P.S. I could be mistaken but I don't think Ayumi and MOE are real sisters. Natsumi is apowerful drummer and keeps improving
Glad you got to this band. Just one of the great Japanese rock/metal bands I discovered in the last 3 years. They just released a new video within the last two weeks. In 2025 I'm sure you'll discover more great hands from Japan that are out there.
I'm going to see and meet Bridear next year here in England, can't wait 🤘Please check out this song called Ignite link ruclips.net/video/C0-_u9SYspE/видео.html its a good perfomance live but the crowd look like they took the wrong turning on the way to church 😅. Merry Christmas to you both and look forward to more Japanese band reactions 🙂
Their new album has a lot of bangers like this. About three songs I skip over (too much growling, which I'm not a fan of) but songs are great rockers with cool riffs and I like the drum and guitar tones. My favorite is the title track Born Again which might be my favorite song of theirs. Merry Christmas!🤘🎄
It took me a little time to get into this song...about 7.4 seconds.🤘What a blast - especially after I turned it up to 11 (Happy Christmas Eve, neighbours!). Japanese female vocal fry is the best, especially as it is used carefully and accompanied or counterpointed by sweet harmonies. Superb band with 5 albums and 14 years performing experience behind them. 🤘🤘 And they're gigging on April 11th about 30 miles away from me, so I know what I'm doing that night!
@TJandTheGringa Merry Christmas to you both! Thanks for the last 6 months of excellent, honest, fun (and occasionally tearful) reactions to Band-Maid, Lovebites and lots more. ❤️💙
Kudos to Pascal for supporting you and making great suggestions. But one small correction: Ayumi and Moe are not actually sisters. Please pass this along to Pascal.
I like Bridear. Not huge fan still. That said.... they have one of the best Thrash songs to date. Rather simple structure, and old, but oh man those riffs and melody are just soooo good. I wish you react to this some day. "Thread of Light" live. Link here: ruclips.net/video/enbjKqMOTe4/видео.html
excellent song, Ayumi and Moe are great guitarists, Natsumi very good drummer and nothing to say about Haru and Kimi, but I prefer the old lineup of Misa/Mitsuro on guitars and Kai on drums
I guess my parents were right when they said all that WWE was a bad influence. Though it wasn't because my brother and I beat each other up, it was because we set the lawn on fire trying to recreate the pyro with fireworks we got from Mexico. Oops.
FYI: Since you like LOVEBITES, check out the new anti-Lovebites band UNDYING WORDS....Black vs. white outfits, more of a Japanese versus Western singing style, and Japanese versus Western cultural references like the Kyoto princess red veil. They feature the other new bassist LOVEBITES finalist, possibly positioned as the anti-FAMI with a mean streak, as seen in the MV where her instinct is to grab the throats of the other musicians.....I may be reading too much into it, but bass-driven, and awesome start, although they need to add another guitar to really compete.
My holy trilogy for several years has been BAND MAID, Bridear, and TRiDENT. I have collected a lot of CDs and merch from all 3. Bridear as a band, have been through a lot with member changes and reformation. The only original members left are Kimi the vocalist and little Haru the bass player. Their trademark has always been heavy music and twin dueling guitars, no matter the line up. Another band that really does not have a bad song in their catalog. As an aside Natsumi came to us from a band named TELECiDE ... the song PG-16 is worth checking out.
Now were talking, one of the OG's of the new wave! Together with Destrose, Aldious, Fate Gear, Mary's Blood they put Japanese metal on the map again!
Bridear is one of the OGs on the scene. I remember the first time I heard their song "Light in the Dark" back in the day. It was a revelation for me lol
This is Pascal! Thank you for the reaction!
Thank you for the Awesome suggestion Pascal!! Happy New Year!! 🎊
@ Happy New Year! I’ll work on another band for you to check out!

"Brave New World Revisited" is a bit progressive Rock side by Bridear. It is my favorite song by them.

That Bass looks huge on Haru. She growls then smiles, very cute.
These japanese female
bands are so talented. it’s amazing
One of the first Japanese groups I found and still a favorite, they are the ones that got me hooked on Japanese female rock/metal.
As others have said, not sisters, but their current tour tee shirt does say Sukiyaki sisters.
Bridear has flown under the radar for a long time. Nice reaction. Haru’s growls are always fun.
Merry Christmas TJ and TG! 🎅🎄
Merry Christmas ‼️🎄🎄 🎁 ⛄ ...All the best for you!! 🤘😃🤘

By the way, bassist Haru is probably the only bassist in the world whose guitar is bigger than her. But she plays with her fingers.
That riff is sick
