Kirby basically has limitless potential. If kirby can inhale them than he basically is the most powerful character in smash bros. Also in kirby and the amazing mirror kirby gets the smash power up which gives him his smash bros moves.
I still feel like Kirby’s missing something. With the amount of abilities he’s used over the years, it’s disappointing that most of his moves are still generic hand and foot attacks. I’d love to see him designed like megaman where all his normals are a different kind of copy ability based attack. An example would be his nair. Instead of just spinning around, he could transform into a wheel first and then spin. Edit: I feel kind of the same way about a lot of characters from 64 and melee. Link for example, should use more botw based abilities to represent the modern Zelda era. Revali’s gale for up b, stasis for side b, there’s so many items and abilities from botw to make up a more fleshed out moveset.
I feel the same for many other characters too! Luigi should have had a moveset based on Luigi’s Mansion, using the flashlight to stun enemies etc... Mario could have used Cappy from Odyssey and Yoshi could have used his vehicle transformations from Woolly World. So disappointing...
It would be cool but Kirby can’t just instantly spawn a copy ability when he wants to so it wouldn’t be accurate. But now that I think about it he does have that pocket dimension thing so maybe he can
Fun fact In kirby's adventure there wasn't any costumes so kirby has a little color change in every ability so the costume origins were in kirby's adventure (Mostly all of them)
At 7:49, the actual reason for yellow Kirby was because the co-director wanted Kirby to be yellow but he turned out to be pink instead. Though, yellow is the default color of any player-two Kirby in games with multiplayer. At 8:05, blue Kirby is also the default player-three Kirby in multiplayer Kirby games. At 9:05, 'sunburnt' Kirby is from the color he changes to when he gains an ability in an early Kirby game before they created hats for Kirby. Plus he's not even orange. Though, everything else in this video was surprisingly accurate.
Also, his forward throw is a different suplex move: If you wait a second after grabbing an enemy and then press b, he will do a similar animation but with the extra flip (input might be different than I remember)
Sakurai stated on the original Smash 64 website that Yellow Kirby is indeed based on Dream Course and that Blue Kirby is indeed based on Ice Kirby, so my clips where correct. For sunburnt Kirby there wasn't a color palette in the old games that matched his color so I used the next best thing that came to mind: The color palletes in Amazing Mirror.
You were still right about what you said about multiplayer Kirby colors. Dream Course was just the first Kirby game with multiplayer if I recall correctly.
@Kirby With A Knife Actually, Flame Choke wasn't in Melee. Back then Ganondorf's side B was just a non-fire version of Raptor Boost. Ganondorf didn't get Flame Choke until Brawl
It's worth noting that Amazing Mirror came out after Melee. So some of Kirby's moves originated in Smash and were put into the main series as an homage.
I feel like Kirby’s moveset is way more clever than people give it credit for. Maybe it could be given more, but it’s still really good references. I mean, basing a ton of his moveset of the Fighter ability is a really good fit for smash.
the thing is, smash is kind of based on kirby. Masahiro sakurai created both, and the smash bros series is heavily inspired by kirby super star's abilities and fighting system. So actually, it's not just a perfect fit, but it's even built around how kirby works
I'd add some stuff about Kirby's animations. When Kirby copies Bowser's neutral b, the pose he does when throwing fire is the same that he does when he attacks with the fire power in Kirby's games. There are some other like that. Maybe you can do some more stuff with that ;)
Kirby's front and back throws come from Kirby's Adventure with the Backdrop Ability(the origin of Suplex). I also believe his blue color comes from that game, since he was already blue and had no crown when using Ice or Freeze.
@Juanez Fernandez Pinedez Mendozez They're not. They're super similar, not the same thing, since Suplex is much more complex. Backdrop used inhale to grab back in Adventure, for example. It's also not that much of a nitpick since it's a "Origin of" video.
