Hi Alan, It's good to hear from you. Actually, I tried to sneak out of there. There's a good chance the neighbors may not like us very much - lol. Are you warming up down there yet? Thank you very much and have a great evening, Tom
😂 they’ll get over it. We had 3” of snow a couple weeks ago and you’d think the world was coming to an end. The company I work for don’t want their trucks out so we sit at home and use PTO yippie Warming up now and tons of rain
Land design is normally done on larger scales to mitigate problems. Maybe a larger plan would include the neighbors or, like you said, plants and lots of em.
I have a bad feeling those neighbors are going to start complaining, I have water in my yard and its your fault. This looks good overall. I think you did a good job
Thank you Who, they would be complaining about their own water on their property. They would also be complaining that their water is no longer allowed to go to the neighbor ( our customer ) which isn't legal. Water is supposed to be contained on your own property. That would probably start a war in the neighborhood so he decided to just handle it this way. Plus, all we did was install a planting bed for a future privacy screen. Thank you for your compliment, Tom
It's a shame that the Engineers did not see this or, allowed it? My first thought for the Privacy was Arborvitae or Leland Cyprus and then I thought about adding color and flowers for pollination and was thinking rhododendrons and a mixture of colored azaleas, maybe even a magnolia or two which will provide color and a beautiful bouquet to help create memories
Those are all excellent choices for a privacy screen Bill. I wish we were handling that part of the project, but the customer is doing that themselves. Thanks again, Tom

@@tyelandscapinganddrainage Well your responses have earned you a sub, appreciate it. If i might pick your brain for a moment.. Lets say that i would like to extend my gutter drainage in one form or another, PVC is likely, but what size Gutter to PVC adapter and PVC pipe size should i look for? Suffice to say i'm TERRIBLE when it comes to sizes and measurements. Its basically to just move water further from the house with above ground PVC, buried at this time isnt necessary. Amazon affiliate links to the adapters would likely be doable if you have any, the pipes ill just grab at Lowes. Thanks again
You probably have 2 inch x 3 inch downspouts, but you have to measure that. You could have 3 inch x 4 inch downspouts. If 2x3 then you need a 2x3 downspout adapter and 3 inch pvc pipe. These are cool drainage systems. What vendor do you purchase the drainage material from. As a contractor in NY I'm interested in learning more about it!
Thank you Mike, They definitely get a boat load of water from the neighbors, but they also get about 1500 gallons of water from their own roof in a 1 inch rain. I agree about the clay soil. Actually, what's there is just sand and it will erode quickly. We gave them a price to complete the berm with a couple triaxle loads, but they decided to handle that themselves. Thanks again, Mike
Great job, what a difference it makes for the owners, wow. But now the neighbors have to deal with the water staying in their yard. Perhaps they’ll hire you? Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 the country of watermanagement 😊

Hi, from New Hampshire been struggling with ground water issues and surface water issues in my yard . That is a great idea and job. Thank you for posting.
This looks like a typical American solution. Everybody for themselves. Why don’t the neighbours work together to solve their mutual problem? Great job though.
Awesome teamwork. Just goes to show you don’t need a lot of manpower to do big jobs. You just have to work smarter and use the right tools for the job. That was a lot of water in the yard. Great video and you explained as you went I was going to ask about the vents in the downspouts but you explained it in the video that you need venting for a drywell.
Amazing!!! We have a small lake in our backyard, even ducks! I told my husband he always wanted lake front property, haha! Not funny. Where are you located? About how much does a job like this cost?
You guys would be well served to invest in a locator to detect services. Plastic would require either a sonde or a location wire on or fed through but electrical is easy found by its own signal
Hi Mark, Dry well size is based in the size of the roof, pictures of standing water from the customer, how good the drainage is based on our perk test and whether an over flow is possible. Thank you for your compliment and I hope this helps, Tom
I think you’re talking about the grade rod. It’s a measuring tool that works with the laser transit. We used it to get the trench set before we installed the pipe. I hope I answered your question. Tom

Thank you palmlife. Watch the next dry well video. It was installed in clay soil. Another Stormwater Drainage Problem - New Homeowner's Flooded Yard mitigated with a Dry Well ruclips.net/video/2F7aTuXDIJA/видео.html Thanks again, Tom
I noticed water sitting on the fabric on the dry well, so the water is not going thru the fabric, I noticed on the last video when you connected the old dry well to the new one, you put a grate and fabric covering the pipe/ grate, so that would mean the water can't drain into the old dry well very easy and will clog up.
I respectfully disagree Terry. If you look back at 16:42 - Those are low spots, the fabric is a little wavy from backfilling. The dry well is still full of water and percolating. It stopped raining only a short time before. The water in the dry well is filtered. There's nothing to clog any fabric by the pipe going to the old dry well. Plus, this is not a french drain. Water gets into the main dry well from the plumbing, inlets and catch basins.
Nice job, it would be nice to put some starter fertilizer with tupersan with crabgrass preventer wont kill seed. But there are laws with fertilizer and pesticides which i know prevents you from entering in to it. :( I miss Roger Cook!
I like the elegantly simple idea of using the 6X with the thumb to move large quantities of the dirt while being able to maintain the grade! It's a Time Saver and probably save some fuel and wear and tear as well
Thank you very much Bill. The grade boards are much faster and I can get the grade much flatter with an 8 foot 6x6. Thank you for your nice comment and have a great day, Tom
The dry well was to take care of the homeowner's water. The 'planting bed' takes care of the neighbor's water. Both are needed. Thanks for your comment
Sorry, we in EE always fence our property with this type, we hit iron every 30cm around and let the iron rise 20cm from the ground, connect it with iron, no need for thick iron 8mm, a board about 20cm from one side and the other from the inside side, the fence in the middle so that the wire is in the concrete later so no animal can get in, and the foreign water stays on the other side, so you don't have to see these ugly mountains of earth
You're right Ed, We had a meeting with the town engineer at this property. They were willing to go to the neighbor and make them redirect their runoff away, but this homeowner would have to make a complaint. That would probably start a war in the neighborhood and the homeowner decided to just handle this from our side. Have a great day, Tom
We had same issue as this house with massive flooding caused by the neighbours on both sides changing their grading without permit or town authorization or direction. Huge issue, a lake while their yards remained dry. The town official said, well this is why you have the problem but it’s private property so it’s your responsibility to fix your own yard or consult with neighbours. Neighbours are not will to do any work or spend any $$ so we end up with a work having to be done very similar and to the extent of this video. We paid the contractors, excavators and paid for a permit from the town. People should not be changing the grades on their lots themselves, they don’t know what their doing and cheap out. If a problem arises it’s everyone else’s fault including the town and their expectations are that town should fix it.
Watched pt 1and 2, really nice cleanup. One comment mentioned the nabours complaining? Well it is their water. So they should call you in to sort it out. We in the UK have a bigger problem that even you could not fix? Planning authority alowing housing being built on mainly reiver flood plaine. Thanks for the video.
Great job I learned so much just watching 👀 you. The both of you are so skilled. ⌚ a great video 📹 👍. Keep up the good work. Good Good luck with your channel.
Don't know what state this is but if possible a densely planted large leaf laurel hedge would be a total privacy hedge and the look stunning when kept trimmed to whatever height is needed. Regards from South Africa
Well the one thing you can always learn from this if you don't give water somewhere to go it'll generally wind up somewhere you don't want it to be and it will create a problem. People don't think about that when they buy houses they never pay attention though where does my property set in relationship to the hills around me and when it rains what's going to happen.
Love your videos but I think the only thing it needs to be perfect would be a video of your work when it’s actually raining to see how your solution worked kinda like a before and after
I wonder what happened to the original watershed for the neighborhood. If all that ground has just settled, or if the development changed the natural drainage.
I believe the original drainage for the neighborhood was changed. Homeowners want to improve their yards. They fill in and level drainage swales, add pools and landscaping. Pretty common. Thank you for your comments, Tom
Ryan, It's called the 'clean water act' and/or 'storm water management act". It's a federal law. One of the purposes is to limit rain water runoff that carries fertilizers, pollutants and other contaminants that wind up in the streams, waterways and eventually into the bay/ocean. The feds make a law, the states enact it and then it makes it's way to every town. Our dry well contains the water, the water gets filtered as it percolates and then recharges the aquifers. They are pretty strict here in Jersey and they fine people for discharging to the street. Especially, if the water freezes on the sidewalk or curb, Tom
Another good video. I get neighbors and school water in my yard. I need to either hire you or contact a town engineer ( which I didn’t know we even had ) thanks for posting !
Thank you very much Suzy. The town engineer is always a great place to start. They know the town rules and can tell you what's allowed. Thank again and have a great day, Tom
Was wondering what the ramifications are for blocking the drainage of those two neighbors' yards onto your client's yard. Are there any municipal codes that prevent that, or is it just legally their bad luck that your clients decided to deal with their neighbors' nuisance water? I guess their only option now is to hire you guys to put in their own dry well systems. ;-)
It depends on the town Jon. I was just talking to another town engineer about a customer with a similar problem. He told me we could not add a 'planting bed for privacy' which would stop the neighbor's water. While they also have the rule that water has to be contained on your own property, he said we couldn't impede the flow of water coming from that neighbor. That doesn't make sense to me. He said we could do it, but if the neighbor complained we would have to remove it. In this town, from the video, water is supposed to be contained on your own property. The town engineer was willing to make the neighbors stop sending their water to our customer, but he would have to file a complaint with the town. That would probably start a war in the neighborhood so he decided to just handle it this way. Tom
Not an option William. They wanted that brick and block. They told us to leave it in a pile there. My guess is they wanted it to fill the new steps or raised patio they were planning to make. I was glad they didn’t want us to haul it away.
Right. It was okay when it was going into the neighbors yard, so it should be okay in their own yard. Neighbors can kick rocks or fix their problem, too.
You're right Denise, We had a meeting with the town engineer at this property. They were willing to go to the neighbor and make them redirect their runoff away, but this homeowner would have to make a complaint. That would probably start a war in the neighborhood and the homeowner decided to just handle this from our side. Have a great day, Tom
Very detailed video. I thought that after adding grass seeds you should use a roller to even out of soil and push the seeds into the soil. This is my only thought
I have a question why didn't you just put a drain in that backyard and run a 4-in pipe to the city street and just let the water go out down the storm drains for the streets instead of putting in that large drywall system, Or is that against the code in the city where you live? I do a lot of commercial construction and around most every parking lot that I do or project I do that has any type of asphalt area I generally dig a 2 ft deep ditch and put in corrugated drain pipe with a sock around it and 57 stone on top to catch any water before it gets to that parking structure or parking lot or asphalt whatever I'm dealing with and get rid of it that has saved me more than one time.
Hi Dozer. The dry well was the only option. The city wouldn’t permit any of this water going to the street and it’s actually about 5 feet uphill to the street from the backyard so it would need to be pumped - definitely not legal. We covered all this in more detail in pt1.
Hello from New Jersey Erla. I hope you are not too close to the volcanos we have been watching. Thank you for your beautiful comment and compliment. Dawn and I appreciate you watching us work. Thanks again and have a great day, Tom
Idk if anyone has said it yet, but never bury the flair of a tree. It is how they breathe. Those trees are going to die or at least get sick soon. It can take a year or two sometimes.
hi the first video i see you bo loran it was the down pipe from roof that water came from and you left it should have fix that then there be no water on loran job done
Yes, there was a utility mark out. 811 / NJ1call doesn't mark private utilities. You can see the mark out flags well in part 1 and a couple at 21:17. There's a gas, electric and water line going to the pool that wasn't marked by 811. This is also a new homeowner and they don't know where the utilities are either.
Here's a link to pt1 if you're interested - ruclips.net/video/st5V2D5yN0A/видео.html

Awesome comment Anthony. They do the same thing here too. Thank you very much and have a great day, Tom
Hard work, well done Chris from Australia
Hello from New Jersey Chris. Thank you very much for your nice comment and have a great day, Tom
Great job I learned so much just watching 👀 you. The both of you are so skilled. ⌚ a great video 📹 👍. Keep up the good work. Good Good luck with your channel.
Thank you very much for your spectacular comment Mary. You made our day. Thanks again, Tom
Don't know what state this is but if possible a densely planted large leaf laurel hedge would be a total privacy hedge and the look stunning when kept trimmed to whatever height is needed.
Regards from South Africa
Hello from New Jersey IO. We agree. Laurels make a great privacy screen. Thank you for your comment and have a great day, Tom
Well the one thing you can always learn from this if you don't give water somewhere to go it'll generally wind up somewhere you don't want it to be and it will create a problem. People don't think about that when they buy houses they never pay attention though where does my property set in relationship to the hills around me and when it rains what's going to happen.
Well said Dozer
Love your videos but I think the only thing it needs to be perfect would be a video of your work when it’s actually raining to see how your solution worked kinda like a before and after
Thank you Juan. You can see this system after a good rain at 12:45. Have a great day, Tom
Tom, you got the east jobs.🤣😂🤣😂. That job looks great. Would like to see what happened after a heavy rainfall event.
Thank you B. We show it after a good rain here 12:45. Have a good day, Tom
Great informative videos.
Also love watching them work together with a pleasant attitude 🙂.
Thank you Mike. Glad you like them! We appreciate you watching.
Great job. I’m impressed in all of your videos the care and steady work. No rushing or shortcuts
Thank you very much CD. We appreciate your compliments. Have a great day
Do you have the system engineered or going off of what you two know? Absolutely fantastic channel - thanks!
Hi Zach. This is our design. Thank you for your compliment, Tom
Both of you make a good team. Great job.
Thank you very much Colleen. Have a great day, Tom
What is the logic behind the town's ordinance of NOT discharging rainwater into/onto the roadway ?
You need a Powerbuggy instead of the Power wheelbarrow. The buggy dumps for you no need to do it by hand!
Thank you Mike.
Many places require a permit before doing any grading that will affect water drainage.
Absolutely true Doug
Another good video. I get neighbors and school water in my yard. I need to either hire you or contact a town engineer ( which I didn’t know we even had ) thanks for posting !
Thank you very much Suzy. The town engineer is always a great place to start. They know the town rules and can tell you what's allowed. Thank again and have a great day, Tom
Any chance you'd be willing to share what you charged for all this? I have a VERY similar situation and looking to see what good work would cost.
Sorry Luis. We don’t discuss pricing and what it costs here is not going to be the same most other places.
Fantastic job and I have to say I love your guys's teamwork that is truly awesome. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
Thank you for your outstanding comment Allen. I hope you have a great day too, Tom
Tom
I believe I would have broke the stone and block up and put it at the bottom against the fence as fill then buried it in soil
Not an option William. They wanted that brick and block. They told us to leave it in a pile there. My guess is they wanted it to fill the new steps or raised patio they were planning to make. I was glad they didn’t want us to haul it away.
Neighbors won't be very impressed. Tough shit though. Manage the water that falls on your property.
On the money Shain
Right. It was okay when it was going into the neighbors yard, so it should be okay in their own yard. Neighbors can kick rocks or fix their problem, too.
Well said
The neighbor didn't care when they were flooding out this yard.
new subscriber watching from corinth mississippi- very good video
Hello from New Jersey Danny. Thank you for your comment and for subscribing. Have a great day, Tom
I researched it, Neighbors are liabil if their property floods yours.
Thank you Frank, have a great weekend, Tom
Wow, you are so talented. Greetings to you from Iceland😇😇
Hello from New Jersey Erla. I hope you are not too close to the volcanos we have been watching. Thank you for your beautiful comment and compliment. Dawn and I appreciate you watching us work. Thanks again and have a great day, Tom
Great work! And it’s given me some ideas for my yard! Thanks!
Thank you LT. That’s what YT is all about and I’m glad we could help. Thanks again, Tom
Why was there no Sump to then pump to an offsite natural drainage location? What happens when the drywell fills up?
We explained all that in pt1
No footage of the system in action? Would be nice to see a the pond in the neighbors yard building up against the berm.
12:47
First time watcher , sure nice to see someone who knows their craft . Job well done ...
Thank you very much Rick. You’re very kind, Tom
i remember the 1st part lets see whats next
Won’t piling up dirt around the base of those trees cause problems?
It might, but I think the homeowner is more concerned with keeping the water away their house.
Why is it called a dry wall..? when there is already dry wall... that you goes on walls!? :\
It’s Dry well, or leach pit, soak trench, water recharge system etc…
Great job. You are a perfect team. I ADMIRE YOU.
Thank you for your nice comment and compliment Karla. You are very kind. Have a great day, Tom
Beautiful work, learnt alot of stuff from this video, thanks
Thank you for the amazing comment Karl. You made our day. Thanks again, Tom
Idk if anyone has said it yet, but never bury the flair of a tree. It is how they breathe. Those trees are going to die or at least get sick soon. It can take a year or two sometimes.
That's been said here a couple times and it can be a concern, but the homeowner is much more concerned with keeping the water away from their house.
hi the first video i see you bo loran it was the down pipe from roof that water came from and you left it should have fix that then there be no water on loran job done
I apologize, I don't understand your comment. I don't know what bo loran or loran means. We tied all the downspouts directly to the dry well.
It would be an idea to show that your drainage solutions work by showing us a video at the end of the job dueing heavy rain
Anthony, we showed it after a good rain at 12:45. Thanks and have a good day
HI THAT BLOCK WALL COULD HAVE BEEN AN OLD BASEMENT?
It could have been, but they also think it might be some kind of an old outdoor kitchen/fireplace
Don't you need to lay the pipe below the frost line?
Sewer and water from the house to the city are usually done below the frost line. Not rainwater drainage - downspout water.
Were the utilities lines flagged before the dig work?
Yes, there was a utility mark out. 811 / NJ1call doesn't mark private utilities. You can see the mark out flags well in part 1 and a couple at 21:17. There's a gas, electric and water line going to the pool that wasn't marked by 811. This is also a new homeowner and they don't know where the utilities are either.
Love the video, my ? is the roof gives off 1500 gallons in a 1-inch storm, what's the estimated holding capacity of the dry basin you installed.
2000 gallons
you answers my ? at the end of the video 2000 gallons
We talk about the dry more in pt 1. Thanks for watching
Why do you not show the yard during a heavy rainstorm?
Bill, we showed it right after a good rain at 12:45
Great stuff guys
Thank you Denis. Have a great day
@@tyelandscapinganddrainage admire your work tom keep it up very special.
@denisconor648 thank you very much. You’re very kind
You guys need to look into getting a ventrac. It will eliminate most of your hand grading work.
You are a Dynamic Duel. ! 💐💪💐
Thank you very much.
I'm really impressed.
Thank you very much JMD. Have a good day
