  • The burgeoning federated commonwealth attempted to make a specific variant of the griffin unique to their newly combined forces. The 1DS standing for Davion Steiner was however pilfered by both the Kuritan and Marik forces and eventually the design was spread across the Inner Sphere. This led to the 1DS becoming less prioritised in favour of the 3M model.
Thanks for watching all, have a good week and see you next time :)

I bought the Solaris Pack way way back when the Mad Cat Mk IIs were injected into the accounts of those that bought them, and I let the Ares gather dust. I may have to clean it out and do this with it.

Duck and weave CR, duck and weave! I can't wait to see what kind of strats we can use in MW5.
P.S. The Greeks were known for developing the Phalanx, why do we not see that used more often? =P

Interesting that they called it DS (Davion-Steiner), when all the children were named Steiner-Davion... You'd think it should be the GRF-1SD

Say what you like about PGI’s mechanics (and I do) but their art guys are on point... I could look at the Griffin model all day, they did a great job. Still one of my very favourite mechs.

Yeah it does look very nice. Alongside their version of the shadow hawk.

DS stands for Davion-Steiner? Now I know whom Nintendo got their handhelds from.

They stole their ideas from their german american rivals!

@@CriticalRocket Wait German American? I thought Davion was British?
They've got like... knights and shit. And noble houses and lords.

    • @CriticalRocket

Every house has nobles and lords really, even the periphery states. Also Marik have things like the knights of St.Cameron for example. Davion I think was originally British predominantly, then went more Anglo-American, then a sort of Anglo-American-Franco and then mostly went American with the ranking of the British army. Looking at Steiner, their worlds are named after places in Scotland, Ireland and England so sometimes I wonder they are more British-German. Very confusing.

Help me with this mech Rocket. It's such a beautiful mech, but it just can't click with me. I mean, look at the loadout. You always say in your videos, that the armies loved this mech, but even in the Battletech game, it's doesn't feel like it can hurt. Am I missing something, or I have to fully retrofit the whole loadout?

It always worked best as a mobile fire support unit for armies that lacked the more sturdy catapult or archer. It would use its jumpjets to get to a high spot and fire missiles and its PPC to harass and whittle foes down who couldn't return fire. It doesn't work well as a brawler normally because it is more adept at moving around quickly. In MWO, use it as support for the heavy or assault lance. In HBS Battletech, use it to sensor lock enemies if need be and then start sniping from a hilltop if you can.

The nascar just screws pilots because no one communicates really.

That, and when I started playing 5 years ago, there was a lot of emphasis put on Alpha and Bravo lances rendezvousing with Charlie lance, and staying in formation with them, multiplying their fire while they tanked the damage. Now, we've got Alpha and Bravo lances charging full-speed ahead, and leaving Charlie lance behind to get focused down with no support.
I always liked the trial Raven and the stock Kit Fox C, for this purpose. They each have ECM, and each have a long-ranged weapon on one side, so they can hang just behind and to the side of a big assault, cover them with ECM, and poke around the side without worrying about accidentally shooting them in the back.

LRMs are pretty unreliable now because of the switch between direct and indirect fire when you have a lock according to TTB

I do not know why... But I irrationally hate the Griffon. I don't like the weight, I don't like the hardpoints, I don't like the silhouette, I don't like how all the hardware is on one side... It's all just *wrong.*
What are Hebe's thoughts on the mech?

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  5 лет назад +1

She hates it as well Derek, you aren't alone.
Personally I see it as a fire support unit that is never meant to get face to face with any 'mech. Sit at the back, snipe with the PPC and fire missiles over hills but never get within 500 metres of the enemy.

@@CriticalRocket I stand in good company then. Tried to write up a 'engineers discuss the thing' bit, but after 45 minutes, I had nothing better than, "is the left side at *least* a shield arm?" followed by a shrug.
