I've always felt like Tray Deee had a Rakim influence in his flow structure and cadence. Rakim influenced most elite MCs if we being honest. The first cerebral lyricist, his compound rhyme structure was crazy. My Melody got entire sentences that rhyme

Listening to Tray reminiscing about when Paid In Full was dropped gave me chills! I felt the same way; hip hop was something to listen to but I wasn't living it (from DC so gogo was my thing). I heard My Melody on the radio one Friday & it changed my life! Rakim's rhyme style & flow was so unique at that time it made all other MCs seem elementary!

My mom is dead and gone now, but long before she died and was in her fullest of health and mind you,she never listened to rap music and l spit I ain’t no joke to her and when I was done, She said to me; Sammy, you can make some money because you sound just like those guys singing that new music that they are playing on the radio. PEACE TO RAKIM! .

The original release for Eric B Is President was release on 12” Vinyl 1986 with My Melody on it . The Album version is the Remix of Eric B Is President both versions are great, But check out the Original version if you yet haven’t it has the lyrics they took out . Rakim since a kid is top dog for me then Kool G rap and Kane in that order. Great job on this Podcast really enjoyed it ! Rest In Peace Rap the Puerto Rican Brother in back of the Paid In Full Album cover with all the Jewelry and Fila outfit.

Also, shouts to y'all for this ep and for the show in general. It's dope to see Great MC's be fans and pay homage to other Great MC's like this. One thing that always blows my mind about Rakim is from an old interview he did with Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds on the old Juan Ep podcast. Rakim said he used to play the sax when he was younger, and when he started rhyming he wanted his rhymes to have melody like a sax. So, he'd hum out the flow to himself and then figure out the words that fit into it.

❤🎤Amazing Tribute to the ..God.🎤.Emcee 🎤💙There is Pre Rakim & Post Rakim, just like Jordan, Tiger & Gretzgy....if you know you know. He came from a Musical and sports background, drum roll He didn't cuss in his Music. Love all you guys, Thank you for what your doing. I don't comment much, but this hit me at the right time. Crook if you happen to see this, thank you for all you do, it makes me proud. I was blessed to meet some of your blood in the midwest and shed a few deep tears during deep but beautiful conversation. I listen to 100s of content creators, no hate, but maybe 1 out of every 100 I listen to I might stay connected to one and share it with alot of artist that I know. Much Love to you, HSG and the rest of your family. Have a Great weekend...💙✌🏽❤️✌🏽
