This story is all about "Nightmare City" It is about the Yellow cat trying to get Pink Cat out of the fake city. But they are being kept in by the blue cat. The others are also trying to escape, and are also being held back by whoever wants them there. It is a very touching story.
The city is a kinda virtual world and players can log in to the city using capsules which appeared in secret part of "NIGHT MARE CITY". one day A.I.s controlling the city, plot a rebellion because of they awoke themselves. the yellow cat was one of test players of the city which means he is actually human. and that blue cat and other cats who has glowing weapon are AIs of the city. the pink cat was also AI but she didn't join the rebellion somehow.
It's second part of history. First flash video was made with "403 - Southern Cross". Name of that video is "Nightmare City". Lyrics tells history about characters... this is second part. For me more beautiful (if you know first)

The name is a reference to "403 Forbidden", which appears when you try to access a website which is disallowed for 1 reason or another (but can be found, so u dont get "404 not found"). na on the end is just cos of the Japanese way of writing English words (cos the sylables r different in Japanese; "I" becomes "Ai") 403 is just the shorter way of referring to the band, but i can't think of another example right now :P most of that's probably irrelevant to your question but what the hell :P

The story is meant to be ambigious, and it parodizes various other stories. Energy weapons implied that he/she has access to manipulating the world, he/she doesn't have to be an AI. The blue cat probably desires the pink cat's moderator power, and the pink cat can't leave because she's the moderator. Once she was gone, the moderator power fell into his hands. Who are AIs and who are not is meant to be ambigious. The white cats though look AI-ish, since they're bland and unemotional.
OHHHH, I get it!!! The pink cat is a member of the "bad" guys because all the bad guys have weapons made of light. That's why she couldn't leave in the first Nightmare City. Shit this all makes sense now. The cat with the bloody arm pointed at the pink cat and told the yellow cat that SHE was one of them.
The yellow cat also looked surprised when the pink cat pulled out her bow of light. It should have been obvious because she was the only one with a weapon made of light. I feel stupid for missing it before. At least now I know why she couldn't leave the city in part 1.
@nazodevu then let me explain those cats and the secret part. they are called "ASCII art" or "AA" (you can find a detail in wikipedia though) and born in "2ch" which is biggest japanese BBS they have own names , for example that yellow cat called ギコ(Giko) ,pink one is しぃ(Sii), and blue one is モララー(Moraler). the point is, Miiya himself didint show us a detail or background of this story. so this movie is not a parody or a hommage to any anime.( theres are such scenes in the movie though lol)
