I told my 9-year-old nephew that the original version of this game came out when I was in high school and he responded by going WOW you're so old. I think Stephen's right. I'm getting the feeling it's just going to be Final Chase, Westopolis/Radical Highway and some other stage with a Biolizard and Black Doom boss fight, as much as I'd love a full campaign. I think it's just going to be the size of one of Sonic's "eras" in the main game.
If there can be one significant change for the main game in Generations: since the team is already making new bosses for Shadow's story, and Frontiers' second attempt at The End showing that Sonic Team is up for redoing divisive boss battles, I wonder if they'd change up the Time Eater since it's the most unpopular Super Sonic fight and ends the game on a disappointing note.
If we're listing out things we desperately want from Shadow Gens, Shadow and Maria having one last conversation through time travel shenanigans would be really nice. I realize what we got in the final story of Shadow the Hedgehog was also a resolution, but there's no denying it was sloppy and not very satisfying. Now that we're in a post Frontiers world, I think a convo with Black Doom about The Ancients on Starfall Island would be smart. The Ancients and Black Arms are both aliens and Doom clearly knows what the Chaos Emeralds are. Maybe some more context as to what's going on outside of Sonic's planet?
This is finally the chance for Sega to rectify their biggest missed opportunity with Generations: finally add that cut Big the Cat from the original game.
In terms of the base game if there really is extra missions with more skills namely the drop dash, I could definitely see some of them unlocking songs from post Generations games so there's at least some representation for later games. Other than that I'd say the Casino Night pinball table included by default and maybe Shadow playable in the modern stages at least, maybe after you finish Shadow Generations.

If you are gonna do a Shadow LP after all - check out Reloaded mod, fixes a game in quite a few places, and even if it's not without issues, game kinda just gets good with it. From what I've heard you can stack that one with a couple of smaller improvement projects.
The thing that impressed me the most was the animation. It is a significant upgrade compared to Frontiers which makes me hopeful for future games. I think that aspect will be the most jarring in comparison to the Sonic part of the game.
I think a compromise Sega could do is just hide the original Generations from the Steam search. Bethesda did that for the original Skyrim when they put up the special edition so if you REALLY want to buy the original version, you can but you have to try a bit harder to find it. That way, the option to buy the original version is still there while not competing against each other publicly. For corporate and greed reasons, Sega could make some extra cash if people double dip too.
Also I feel like Shadow Generations will be a test for both their following remakes and next open-zone game. Japanese websites call SxS Gens a "collection", not just a game, and are focusing on Shadow part more, to the point that it kinda makes en impression that they made that game as their "no big Sonic release this year" game and attached Generations to it because it was too small (which I kinda doubt, but there's still a chance).
I think at least one Japanese website or description mentions Sonic Battle - which is probably due to there not being much to acknowledge game-wise for him, but still
Shadow's campaign is definitely retread of old ground instead of something new, but it works with Generations as a conept and it'd be interesting to see what it will turn out to be with Flynn's character study type of writing
I know its post-Generations, but it'd be nice to see Infinite once more; give him a proper send off. The collapsing hallway and the fractal cityscape doesn't really line up with what we've seen from Black Doom but it feels like something the Phantom Ruby could easily do. That said, if this is supposed to foreground Shadow in time for the film, I can see them sticking to stuff the film would realistically bring up (the ARK, Black Doom, etc) and not spend the limited runtime referencing characters that came after Shadow completed his character arc like Mephiles and Infinite. I assumed Black Doom was one and done though so, happy to be proven wrong on this.
even if this is just a small campaign i'm happy that shadow is getting something. and to be honest i would be kind of down to see this lead to a shadow the hedgehog 2
For levels from Heroes, I would like Frog Forest/Lost Jungle (especially if White Jungle won't get picked) and Egg Fleet/Final Fortress but I feel like they'll pick Hang Castle/Mystic Mansion if they're keeping it with the darker tone.

My answer: No. Fans completely ignore or misunderstand Shadow '05's story (going by the original JP script because Sonic dubs suck) and how its about Shadow possibilities about whose will he carries out and who he becomes by doing so. The canon ending is about Shadow finally moving on from the past forever and finally living for himself and carrying out his own will. Ian Flynn as well as the fans want Shadow to be a character who is still stuck on the promise made to Maria even though Shadow said goodbye to the Shadow who held onto that promise in the ending of Shadow '05. Because of this horrible misunderstanding or just blatant ignoring of one of Shadow's best moments, current writers and fans keep trying to reduce Shadow. Not move the character forward.
Biggest reason to re-release this game is to get it on Switch and other modern consoles. Currently for console players its only on Xbox back compat, and nobody owns an Xbox these days.

And i coinsider that game one of the last good Sonic games in terms of story... It's not the writter that matters in this case, it's the people in charge, the writter maybe be able to do some stuff right... But even then there is some stuff that Flynn does that's not good.

I really hope i dont have to buy Generations again just to play the new content. Its the reason i never got to try Bowsers Fury or Magolor Epilogue.
