Budget cruiser here. I booked a 7 day inside for $122 pppd on Celebrity Solstice and a 14 day RT between Vancouver and Whittier for $99 pppd on HAL Nieuw Amsterdam in September 2024. The key was carefully tracking the fares and booking a guaranteed cabin rate six months out. Fortunately, we did most of the very expensive shore excursions years ago so we are just doing our self guided ones this time.

@@CruiseSeakers The TA that I would love to take in the Regal Princess from Southampton, UK to Galveston. It is one of the cheapest per day sailings outside of some of the MSC cruises. I won't do MSC cruises until I can be assured that there is substantial improvement on their food.

I am a Canadian whose ancestors mostly come from Scotland. I love Alaska. The weather doesn't phase me one bit. Sunny is fine. Rain and fog and cooler temperatures are fine too. It reminds me of spring and fall in Muskoka. My wife is genetically Caribbean and South Asian. She did not love Alaska.
We now have been there three times. My wife loves it. Me. I can take it or leave it. But a week on a cruise ship is always better than a week at home.
We got lucky 🥰. We were prepared for a lot of rain. Ended up with rain only 1 day. Only saw Otters 🥰

June 2025 and splurging on a mini suite. It’s my first time in Alaska, and after Caribbean cruises since the 90’d (and one in the Panama Canal, I’m going to have fun come rain, shine, fog or snow. 😂 So far it’s been everything I’ve expected: higher costs, etc. but I’m glad you warned people - this isn’t the Caribbean. So far I’ve had 2 friends do Alaskan cruises this past summer and they were stunned and overwhelmed by the experience. I hope to have the same feeling. And my puffer coat and reversible fleece coat arrived a few days ago. 😂 All this just makes me think - Iceland or Greenland next? 😄

The only port we found that isn't too touristy is Sitka, which is beautiful.
Even the area around the church is getting a little touristy. But other than that it’s pretty much a fishing village.
