This is why I don't talk to reporters. I did once as a child, and then when I saw the print it was obvious. She left her house not to write a story, but because she already wrote the story and needed some quotes. I was 10. It was at an airshow. If something as innocuous as an airshow can be perverted, anything can. The fact that she would misquote a child made me realize that most reporters have 0 integrity. Feminists are no different.

I had a feminist say that is what I was doing once when talking to someone else and went on a short rant about how sexist I was for explaining something to a woman (who asked me to explain something to her by they way). I told the lady (the feminist) I was sorry and to make up for it, she could follow me out the door when I left and I would not hold the door open for her, in fact I would slam it in her face it that would help her feel more equal to me, her obvious superior since I was a man. To this day, I am convinced the lady I was talking to (not the feminist) peed herself from laughing so hard after I said that.
It would seem womansplaining has been round since rational man first understood that female, irrational verbose narcissism does not invite correction, deviation, or mitigation.

The trouble is, he wasn't correcting something she had just said - he was correcting what she had written in her book. A book which had already been printed, published and sold to many readers. She was probably a little more gob-smacked than she let on.
She still published a truly dishonest book and didnt change her conclusion to save face and well make money. She obviously only did research with an enormous bias. So in the end she is just annother dishonest propagandist.
Can you imagine writing a book, ‘researching’, getting it edited, published, and doing the media rounds to have your book dismantled in under a minute?
Yes... I can at least try to imagine. It would be extraordinarily painful and embarrassing. People make mistakes, sometimes rather large ones, but the author did redirect or deflect. Now you might say that she was so badly caught with her pants down that concession was the only rational way to behave, but at least she did concede. My biggest problem with the left is that they forever define their ideological opposition by their worst moments and mistakes. Let us not do the same to her.

It also speaks to the idea that whatever she presented in her book was WANTED to be believed so much and was accepted based on that want, that no one in the chain of custody between her writing and its publishing validated the information. They accepted it because of the confirmation bias behind it. It confirmed an existing bias, so the information was less scrutinized. Oldskoolrools …you call it an agenda…and perhaps you are right. With that said, is not every researcher / scientist who formulates a hypothesis…working with an agenda to prove his / her position? With this in mind, I have to push back on you when you state that she “ignored the truth”…when there appeared to be no evident body of work done, that she made the choice to ignore. Look, her mistake was clearly crushing and will cost her. However, we correctly judge mistakes by omission…more critically than we do mistakes by miss-interpretation of data. In other words, had she not done any research in this area at all…she should be rightfully owning full weight of the criticism. Instead, she put the time in…did the work and came up with wrong conclusions due to the ambiguous system of death / execution recording in that time-period….to the extent that even the seasoned historian expressed the difficulties he had when trying to understand the methodology and context in that time period. Finally, if we crushed every researcher for misinterpreting data, we would have someone new to chew up every day. Look at it this way, had it not been for Wolf and her mistake, we would possibly never know the truth behind this historical period..as it was her hypothesis that prompted the necessary historical research to fact-check her…research that may have not ever been done otherwise.
J van Niekerk …there was no definition or even distinct penalties for paedophilia in the late 17th or even the 1800’s. In other words, the criminal code in 1835 did not contain within it, a distinction or even recognition for a sexual act with a child. Clearly it makes a difference to us today but not in England at the time. Therefore, if going by the code, homosexual sex was recognized by the criminal code but sex with a minor held no distinct penalty. So to this “technical” point you are making……there is absolutely not a chance that John Spenser was actually tried for paedophilia. “Categories of sexual deviation - or perversion - emerged with the development of psychiatry and sexology in the late nineteenth century, particularly from Krafft-Ebing’s exhaustive cataloguing of such behaviours in his Psychopathia Sexualis, first published in German in 1886.2 Krafft-Ebing did not, in his brief discussion of those who engaged in sexual activities with children, employ the term “paedophiles” to describe such individuals but rather referred to the “Violation of Individuals Under the Age of Fourteen”.3 The term “paedophilia”, defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “sexual desire directed towards children”, appears to have first been used to categorise such sexual desire as an abnormality by Havelock Ellis in his Studies in the Psychology of Sex in 1906.” www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4375676/

_(TO BE CLEAR - as you read my comment I am not saying I agree with ANYTHING this lady believes, I am simply commenting on what I believe she is more likely to feel, based on her reaction.)_ As someone who responds the same way to a revelation of an error I made in my work - I don't think she feels as bad as you might imagine. If she's anything like me, she recognizes she's not perfect and so therefore might feel a little embarrassed, but is grateful for the correction in her understanding. She will learn from her mistake most likely, and still feel confident in her contributions. Again, this is my guess since I am very skilled and knowledgeable in my work, but not at all offended or defensive when someone points out a mistake I've made. I've found that immediately accepting the possibility of being wrong and looking into it, usually prevents a mistake - if it happened - from being blown out of proportion. Why? Because it helps my team focus on solutions, rather than waste time arguing about who's to blame.

In the 1990 book which started her 'career' 'The Beauty Myth', Wolf claimed that 150,000 women per year died of anorexia in the US. The actual number is more like 500.
So here we are almost 30 years later and she's as sloppy, deceitful and unprofessional as ever. It seems to me that she is more concerned about pushing her ideological narrative than getting her facts right.

I love the polite way the English guy delivered the coup de grâce..😁 Even Wolf was thanking him. That’s SO British! 🇬🇧
Jon Jones ….Wolf handled it about as well as anyone could. Even he said he had difficulties with the wording and was unsure how to gain the understanding of how to categorize it. Her mistake was understandable….as she did all the work…but simply made an error of classification of the events…based on old grammar.
@@zeroceiling Her mistake was not understandable. The basis of her book was to highlight outrageous injustice...that never actually occurred. She wrote the book with an agenda in mind and whatever research she did ignored the truth, highlighted what she wanted to believe, and allowed her to make an utter fool of herself
@@zeroceiling I wouldn't call it "understandable" under these circumstances, especially when the whole premise of your book is based around that part. What would be understandable is, if this was just a discussion at the dining table or at the bar socially. But if you are going to publish an academic book based around that entire premise, you make sure that you know and understand the wording, terms and definitions. Never the less to say, that in her book she claimed John Spencer was charged and sentenced because he was gay, is also false, as John Spencer was sentenced due to his acts of pedophilia, so let's just assume that was also just an "understandable" mistake.
“Categories of sexual deviation - or perversion - emerged with the development of psychiatry and sexology in the late nineteenth century, particularly from Krafft-Ebing’s exhaustive cataloguing of such behaviours in his Psychopathia Sexualis, first published in German in 1886.2 Krafft-Ebing did not, in his brief discussion of those who engaged in sexual activities with children, employ the term “paedophiles” to describe such individuals but rather referred to the “Violation of Individuals Under the Age of Fourteen”.3 The term “paedophilia”, defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as “sexual desire directed towards children”, appears to have first been used to categorise such sexual desire as an abnormality by Havelock Ellis in his Studies in the Psychology of Sex in 1906.”

If she's anything like me, she recognizes she's not perfect and so therefore might feel a little embarrassed, but is grateful for the correction in her understanding.
