Takin an exception to what DG meant as the purpose of Thinnai or ledge at the front of the house @17:12. Contrary to what he said, the purpose of the thinnai has got nothing to do with caste restrictions. Even when I grew up around in the 70s and 80s, the main mode of commute for most of the folks in and around small villages and small towns is by walk. Buses and other transportations were rare, if any. So, these 'thinnais' were open to anyone who is walking by to rest their feet before they carry on. You don't have to be a part of the family to rest on the thinnai. The householder usually enquires about the journey and they may share a drink or small snacks with the traveller. So, these are semi-public part of a private house. that's pretty much it.
"Thinnai" is exclusively , the generosity to help the strangers , passerby and travellers who feel tired , to relax on the Thinnai. Water pot will be provided to quench the thirst
17' - Thank you for the blurb on Tinnai Swami which reminded me of Nisargadatta's injunction: Your sadhana is to Be. I also very much appreciate the mention of the ritual whereby one asks if they may take leave.
@@mofoshrimp you see the perspective he gives of such an amazing.... incomprehensible place jus to have some more ego milege is sad ....and a place like Arunachala and this whole subject should come from the inner self....ppl make videos out of everything..... This man is not eligible to tail about all this as it requires great humility and yearning.... and the saints are proof of that ....one can come here or meditate and feel those real Siddars and saints by yourself....this is the plain truth ....

Tinnai Swami was a professor of chemistry
When I reviewed the interview I thought I had made a mistake on that. Thanks for pointing it out and confirming what I suspected.

WoW!
Tinnai is a ledge or a sit out typically in the front verandah, just being pedantic.
Do you have any videos about Seshadri Swamigal? if not, could you please do one? thank you!!

Can anyone share David Godman's email id
but if sri Muruganar was SELF REALISED , why he c ant understand the SPIRITUAL significance of his own verses?
It definitely seems to me like he did, but he would defer to Bhagavan as the higher authority if Bhagavan wanted to correct something.
@@mofoshrimp yes .Tank"s!
You foreign fools .... understand humility....modesty and surrender....
I say foreigner not based on the nation....
Foreigner to the whole topic....
