Finally just finished reading and I absolutely agree with everything you said down to the lack of pay off with the “glowing demon dick”☠️
Coming into Ninth House having just read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, it was a completely different vibe all around. With her tone, her world building, and touching on darker themes so well I truly saw that maturity in her writing and felt it was a strong step into adult books… Hell Bent kind of reads like YA fantasy to me. The level of darkness in the first book completely disappeared in this one and I was expecting the exact opposite.
But. I love Leigh Bardugo and I DID enjoy this book a lot. I just have maaany little pet peeves and it took me absolutely forever to get through 😭

I was thinking about buying both books . I do love the front covers . Great reviews.

Thank you! I think it’s worth a read for sure, but I definitely think Ninth House is the stronger of the two. The covers do look pretty nice on the bookshelf! 😅

    that GDD energy....
SPOILER /// the "no pay off" made me irritated too! there's been building up tension since the first book, but still....nothing.

100% 😅 I mean I think she intends to drag the tension out through the entirety of the series, but yeah, I had hoped there’d be a bit more movement at least.

So I watched for a review of "Hellbent" but I had to stop 4m into a 17m video because I didn't want to hear spoilers !?

I’m sorry that that is frustrating for you. While the spoilers aren’t catastrophic, most people like a warning if you’re giving away plot points. You can, of course, decide to continue past that point if you don’t mind knowing some of the plot. It’s just there to help people decide what level of info they want. Either way, I hope you enjoy the book more than I did. 😊
