    3 dollars was still alot compated to what artist got on big record labels they was getting 25-50 cents per cd. And after you got you buzz you could go direct to stores and out trunk. We used to call it ghetto gold out here

      Raheem explains on here in his last B High interviews why he never signed with a major. He developed a relationship with record stores in the south were he could go directly to them and sell wholesale to them as well as distributors. He pioneered touring in just small towns in the South so he was always doing shows so he had no need to sign with a major

    Im from Michigan. We never overlooked the Bay. We just kind of put Cali artist all together. Our ignorance. Short said Oakland every 3 words other artist didn't do that. Everyone was figuring it out.

    Man he keepin it 💯 while everyone else was running and saying “I need to get a deal” or “I’m trying to get signed” the Bay Area was like I gotta a full record label in the 80’s and early 90’s, now everyone coming like that. The Independent route that’s why all those 90’s and early 2000’s Artist having IRS problems and bad records deals but in the bay those 90’s and early 2000 artist got their feet kicked up!!!!

    Marketing from the major labels over looked the Bay Area hip hop
    scene on a corporate level because they marketed “West Coast” as strictly Gangsta Rap, gang bang music. They didn’t want to market The Bay Area because we weren’t just about bangin, Bay Area music was also about choppin game. Bay Area didn’t fit their marketing scheme but LA artist always knew The Bay Area had talent and was making a lot of noise $$$ in the independent game.
