Canada does not have a first lady. That's a uniquely American weirdness.
We have a Governor-General who represents the King, our monarch, although he doesn't come around very often. LOLOL! He wouldn't dare. The Prime Minister is not the head of state and his wife is not the co-head of state. The King and the Queen Consort are and they are represented by the Governor-General. However, the monarch's and his representative in Canada's roles have been played down as well lately.

A first lady isn't an official office title but the prime ministers wife represents us on foreign visits etc.
@@richardpvancouver7520 not really. Some have been more public than others, but many have kept low profiles or carried on working, like Maureen McTeer, Joe Clark's wife. Ms. Gregoire was a well-known broadcast journalist in Québec before dating Justin, but stepped away from that because of the obvious conflicts. By the way, taking her husband's surname was a late change to appease the Rest of Canada. Here in Québec the norm would have been to just use her own surname, which she was doing until Justin became the Liberal leader.
"First Lady" is a US thing. There is no title of "First Lady" in Canada.

Wow! Excellent interview. Sophie is very well spoken on the topic of mental health. Sometimes it's nice to hear different views because I think we can all relate on some level of mental health issues.

When I stopped “expecting nourishment” from people around me I became a happier person. I think I’ll get my mental health advice from qualified professionals, thank you.
You don’t need a mental health professional to tell you being around people that make you feel good about yourself is helpful. If you’re trying to slight her for using the words “nourishment” as an expectation with regards to those in one’s personal life then so be it but it’s highly juvenile because she isn’t saying anything people don’t already inherently strive toward.
@@barstar888 That’s not what she said. The use of the words “should” and “expect” are very different from the simple message you conveyed. She’s giving people advice, and if she’s not qualified to do so that could potentially be damaging. There is plenty of pain out there from people believing other people owe them things, and being angry and hurt because they’re not getting what they feel they’re owed. Mental health is health just as is physical health. Professionals have years of training for a reason.

Well perhaps nourishment was the word chosen because English isn’t her first language. Not making excuses, just commenting. I appreciated what she had to say. It’s a conversation and opening the door to self reflection and realization. She is not trying to come across as a psychiatrist, but as an author who wrote a book with some helpful insights.

Now that she’s separated from Justin, it’s nice to see her gaining a platform of her own. She (like all wives of Canada’s prime ministers) was kept largely out of the public eye. She’s intelligent, articulate, sensitive and has a lot to say. Very happy to see this.
Unlike the spouse of the American president, who is referred to as the first lady or first gentleman, the spouse of the Canadian prime minister does not have a title.

I first saw Sophie on a Canadian show called eTalk. Instead of reporting on gossip and frivolity, she chose to focus on philanthropy and what celebrities were actually trying to pay it forward. She’s down to earth, intelligent and relentless in her giving back to society. Great role model.

These are empty vessels that abuse in order to make themselves feel as though they are doing good, ignoring any clear violations and accountability of how the cause irreversible harm. When this was becoming evident, the reports and expert education was grifted and redirected to herself and others. Influence MUST come from those who actually have full comprehension of what integrity means. When it is clear they have mismanaged and rectified wrongs with more wrongs repeatedly, and are in-stable to a very worrisome degree/ were fine covering for and enjoying perks of a (now declared) poor relationship only when she understood what public and private sectors knew/ felt of her husband...... there ought to be a publication ban (like they do to others they feel threatened by or fawn to hope emulating in secret). These are not good humans. They pretend to be and are so deluded that even their crimes get covered up on tax payer dime, with more crime. The clock stopped. There is a catch up heading her way soon.

Regarding comments from Sallythurston5780 and Chelsea - It is sad to call her marriage a Sham or to take a jab about her husband paying her to keep quite implies she was controlled and had no independent thinking of her own. I can understand her having to do most of the parenting of 3 children, trying to fulfill her part as a wife of a public figure. She did say that she and husband discussed and communicated before taking the step of separating. Even when people love each other , it is not a guarantee of a happy marriage when partners are not available to shoulder day to day stressful events.
To add to all that, was Covid-19. Her husband was responsible for a whole nation’s. Welfare of life and death.
We all give very little thought of how senior public officials could have organized and worked to keep majority of us at our homes by paying us to do so. We have come to a point of not willing to understand or give thought to what is happening.
None of us need to take sides, get involved or feel we have to judge. Though a non Christian , I value the incident and comment Of Lord Jesus Christ when he spoke about the qualifications to throw stones at others. ( ***Incident of Mary Magdalene being stoned. Second Testament of Holy Bible)

They are not divorced. Many couples are fine with simply living separately without rancor. They are able to have family vacations and normal conversations even if living separately. I know many married couples who have reached that point and are perfectly fine friends.

As a Canadian I’m tired of hearing of the struggles of the wealthy. Both Sophie and her husband live in a bubble and are out of touch with everyday Canadians. As we struggle to put food on the table… they jet set around the world lecturing us common-folk on the hardships of their privileged lives.
And many are raising $$ and awareness for non-profit organization that helps you and anyone in need to get... Wait for it... HAPPY!!!

If you do not have wealthy parents, you will not be able to buy a home however well educated your are. And when it comes time to pay for post-secondary education for your child or children, how will you be able to do that, when your own student loans are not yet paid off?
