This topic conjures a vast array of use cases. There are tons and tons of really crappy “stuff” on RUclips. Who wants to align themselves with a content platform that totally wastes the viewers time or even insults us. The RUclips “platform” doesn’t categorize meaningful content by a cinematic metric. They use a algorithm focused on 6-8 second mouse clicks or swipes. To tie the term cinema to video meant to be seen on a screen you hold in your hand is a real stretch and I think calling yourself a RUclipsr is more closely defined as being paid to push ads…or sell a product/service. I’m a RUclipsr = I don’t own video editing software, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express.
Hey Gary - it's a tricky thing for sure - because every single statement you've made is relative. I.e, your statements are your own opinion, which you are 100% valid in holding, but those opinions are not held by all people. Which totally makes sense, because not everyone agrees on what "cinematic" even is. If we define "cinematic" as "content that could be favorably compared by the general movie-going public to other content that otherwise is projected on a theatrical screen", very little RUclips content would meet that standard. But if we define "cinematic" as something more like "content that presents an enhanced or elevated view of reality and prompts creates an emotional response in the viewer", then much of RUclips content does indeed meet that standard. And the best part - it is more possible than ever before for any of us to create content that brings those kind of emotional reactions in our audiences. And when those emotional reactions are connected to realizations, decisions, or actions to be taken by the audience, that's when lives change. It's incredibly powerful, and it's within all of our reach - no movie screens necessary. And I think that's really, really cool. 😊
Always great video Jeff. Making content that connect with your audience. That is what I am striving for.
I love the idea behind creating impact. I think if that’s your goal with making videos you’re headed the right direction. Great vid as always!
