"Boy, this shit was so stupid." - That pretty much describes how I feel about the minstrelsy and laziness of Tyler Perry movies. He's been needing upgrades to his work FOR YEARS but since he's cheap, then wash, rinse, repeats of the same tired tropes and movies shot in 3-5 business days is what you get lol Thank you for the review!

Thank you for saying this. I agree with everything you said. I'm shocked at all the critics who are praising this as if it's some comic masterpiece. Some critics are afraid to criticize Tyler Perry's films. I found this film to be dull, insulting and unfunny. Hope you two feel better soon!

Tyler’s Perry’s old films were his best storytelling overall. Diary of a black women, daddy’s girls, I can do bad, family reunion, why did I get married, the family that preys. But that was when he had a writers room had help and cared about his productions. Now since he doesn’t have any help his films have been so trash. This one especially made no sense. How was the whole family cool with the mom hooking up with her sons boyfriend. Talking about true love. That whole situation was a fucking mess and made no sense. I haven’t been impressed in tyler in years.

As a gay man, I just found it backwards, confusing and actually kind of insulting how you find out the Mom and the Boyfriend are having an affair and for the rest of the movie, the movie asks the audience to sympathize with the mom (because she sacrificed SO much) and the proposal at the end is played like a romantic, triumphant moment. Like what??

I just wasted almost 2 hours of my life on this movie last night so I couldn't wait to see y'all review. From the stupid opening scene I knew this would be bad. I usually love Mr.Brown (who doesn't age by the way lol) but him pouring gasoline on the grill and then being engulfed with flames has to be the dumbest thing ever. There's just so much wrong with the movie. Uncle Joe cringingly hitting on family, having issues with cops, mentioning burning down area's in protest, black lives matter, her son being gay, wyipepo coming in from Ireland and knickers being mistaken for umm you know, to the ex husband marrying the best friend and then the mom sleeping with her son's bestfriend... it's like what? Pick a struggle. I love Madea but sorry he should have left her in retirement. We've been saying he needs to hire a director, a writer and a stylist for his horrible wigs for YEARS but he wants all the money lol. I know he see's our reviews and he doesn't care. The original valedictorian speech looked like it was an essay that he tore up immediately, his speech was horrible and over the top. The acting was terrible. We're suppose to believe these two "best friends" who were in basically every scene together, I'm guessing to make us believe they were a thing and was never apart, that Davi found time to sleep around with his mom and he never caught on? Yeah ok. The way Davi was so upset with Tim's dad, more so than Tim or the mom... was so laughable. I'm here like why are you so mad? You were sleeping with her while she was married and got the girl, why you mad he left his family? lmao so dumb. Then imagine a grown ass man about to be forced to move back to Ireland against his will...ewww lmao, no ty. Then why did we need the great aunt and cousin or whatever she was? They couldn't just play his mom and gramdma? The relationship was weird as well as them just showing up and it wasn't even funny. I guess Tyler was trying to add Agnes fans to his fan list? Just weird. Hmmmm...what else? OH! The transitions were HORRIBLE... when they were leaving the park and the basketball bounced I was like wtf? Is someone else in the park? But nope it was another dumb transition lmao. Throw the entire concept and movie away, not believable AT ALL. The mom was so boring and just accepted everything and I'm sick of Madea's long drawn out conversations about finding and giving love. I'm like if she hasn't learned anything about love at 40 then stop, that's a speech for someone just learning to navigate through life 🤣sorry this is so loooong it's just so much to tear apart here 🤣...ok the end, 1 out of 5.

When Perry leaned fully into the character of Madea for "Witness Protection", that's when I stopped watching, and was grateful to hear he'd stopped making these.. caricatures. I LOVE Madea and have seen all her movies but I have got to say this movie is by far the worst Madea movie and is honestly an embrassment next to the likes of Diary Of A Mad Black Woman,Madea's Family Reunion & Madea Goes To Jail...This movie made me cringe so many times and I wanted to like it but it was just so tacky, weird and poorly acted! The only saving grace was Madea herself...

About the progression one character comes out as gay, and his friend is secretly dating his mom his family accepts him as gay, but he can't accept his mom and friend being together who's a younger man. I like the juicey tea being spilled.

Maybe I misheard it (I was half paying attention as it went on), but doesn't the mom say she's 12 years older than her son's friend? How old was she when she had her son??

Tyler been a problem since day one. The stereotypes of Black Americans in his plays and movies are damaging af. This is precisely the reason he blew up in Hollywood. A co-worker introduced me to his plays on DVD. She was of the Black church. The support from women in the Black church put him on the map. Just foolishness from the getgo. 🤦🏾‍♀️ smdh

Well.. if the mom and davi can hook up for 2 years, idk 2 years aunt bam?

Tyler Perry getting more writers and directors would mean he would lose out on making more money for himself, if he is the writer, director and producer he can collect all of the coins smh

Joseph. Rest easy. Nobody looks back at Stepin Fetchit and thinks that's what black people are like except the brighter Klan members. The Madea movies will retreat to that same "Movies to watch when you're f*cked up" glory except Perry's movies might actually kill ya buzz. Thanks for the review. 😉

I liked his plays which my niece watched constantly. Other than that, I just don't think his work is that great. Plus, he refuses to grow as an artist and you can tell by his work.
One interesting thing I did learn was the Mrs. Brown character was inspired by the English version of Madea which I found interesting.
