What bothers me here is that "Top 10 Women Directors" is placed in the "alternative" channel, while a "Top 10 male directors" would be placed in the "main" channel.
+toreswe What bothers me even more - there are already a lot of lists of directors on the main channel without single woman in them. And, as it easily proven by my another comment, it is not hard to find great female directors in far more larger quantities then Ten.
***** You've got a point. It is unfortunate that there is such an unbalance in gender when it comes to movie directors, but at the end of the day, no one on this list comes close to Martin Scorsese and the likes.
+arte0021 My point is that actually, women directors were around since the very beginning of film industry (check out Alice Guy-Blaché or Mabel Normand), they were there in 20th century (from Ida Lupino to Liliana Cavani) and now there are quite a lot of them. 99% is an exaggeration and, by the way, WatchMojo's Top 10 Directors featured Spike Lee for that matter, who, while an interesting director, mostly known for being one of the first successful African American directors. It feels kind of odd that there is not a single woman on the list.
+toreswe Well, that could be argued. As much as I love Scorsese, there are a lot of acclaimed female directors around, some of which, like Lina Wertmuller, are older then Scorsese and have roughly same status from my point of view.
As a male, why isn't this list on watchmojo? I don't want to have to switch channels just to see different watchmojo lists that interest me. Why don't you keep it on the main channel?
+Marco Eribes I suspect some feminist with power at WatchMojo convinced them that men are misogynistic assholes and women need their own special channel.
+Narwhal We will be launching 1 video per day early on, but over time we will have as many videos on MsMojo as we have on WatchMojo. The initial topics - like top 10 women directors, top 10 girl bands or top 10 italian tourist destinations - are topics that could have totally been published on WatchMojo, but kept being pushed back for one reason or another. With 83% of WatchMojo's subscribers being guys and the remaining 17% being girls who liked video games, action movies and the kind of topics we focused on WatchMojo, we simply wanted to launch a new channel to cover topics that would be of interest to girls and guys. In other words, we wanted to cover more women's interests topics, but we also wanted to serve more women whose interests may differ from the women we currently serve on WatchMojo, realizing there will definitely be an overlap. So that means that over time, we will be adding more and more topics that maybe would have stuck out on WatchMojo, whether it's Top 10 Joni Mitchell or One Direction songs.
I don't get why this video wouldn't belong on the regular watchmojo channel. Are men really that threatened by videos like this? Or do you just believe that only women would be interested. I don't get it.
Me neither. It's probably just a move to appease the crazy tumbler feminists and the "political correct" crowd that it's spreading this days throughout the internet like cancer
XsenO don't be an ass. I consider myself a feminist and see this move by watchmojo as pandering. Possibility a way to get stupid cosmetics ads targeted towards me.
+Heather Payne Feminism for equality = great self proclaimed Tumblr feminism (the one I mentioned) = cancer Big difference Still undecided between if the move was to create a "safe space" the PC crowd likes or as you mentioned targeted adds
Can people stop whining? please. It's not sexist or sexism. I highly doubt the idea of this is to separate genders. If you don't like this new channel then don't be part of it and ignore it. I think it's an act of thoughtfulness and kindness from Watch Mojo. I think they care about their subscribers whether they're male or female. This is to bring more diversity and videos. It would be difficult if so many videos were all posted on one channel in one day. This balances it out and expands the channel. Be more optimistic people, these two channels are amazing channels with amazing content :)
Jasmim Bettencourt Akerman, one of the greatest film artists of all time (regardless of gender) not being included proves how much Watch Mojo is stupid
This was one of the first vids on the channel, so yes, there will be some criticism of this channel's existance. One could say it's fake woke and reinforces gender stereotypes.
Females, always complaining. Watchmojo is not just for males, it's for everyone. I guess expanding your channel will make you more money. I'm ok with that. This is just my opinion. Nice video.
How is Ava Duvernay not on this list or even mentioned? 13th (documentary is on Netflix now), Selma (Oscar nominated), Queen Sugar (tv), A Wrinkle In Time (1st AfricanAmerican & 3rd woman ever to be given a $100Million dollar budget for a film)... *Come On MsMojo, y’all missed a great one!!
No Catherine Breillat or Patty Jenkins on the list :(. Leni Riefenstahl would have made for an interesting addition as well. She made German WW2 propaganda films that were very good from a technical standpoint, although, you know, they were pro Nazi so I could understand wanting to shy away from that territory. There was a definitive lack of directors prior to the 80's so I think this was intended to be more of a modern list anyway. Other than that, pretty good. A pretty good mix of indie/arthouse and mainstream/blockbuster. I agree with Kathryn Bigelow as number 1, simply because she is probably the highest grossing female director of all time who is also very good from a technical standpoint, even though I don't particularly care for the types of films she makes. I'm a huge fan of Sofia Coppola and loved seeing her as number 2.
Okay, I don't see why this channel should be around, this video deserves to be on the main channel as much any other. If female viewers want videos that skew more to their demographic then by all means make them. I think it's a step in the wrong direction to just corral them all into a corner because women don't need their own corner when they're already sharing the whole room. Does this mean we will also get Black Mojo, Euro Mojo, Mojo Jr.?! I just think it's all unnecessary.
+mariogamefreak1 We will be launching 1 video per day early on, but over time we will have as many videos on MsMojo as we have on WatchMojo. What about ida Lupino? She was one of the first female directors in the 60’s, the most prolific. She was the first and only woman to direct an episode of the twilight zone.
Hi everyone, welcome to our new channel MsMojo! We will be publishing 1 video per day early on, but over time we will have as many videos on MsMojo as we have on WatchMojo. The initial topics - like Top 10 women directors, Top 10 girl bands or Top 10 Italian tourist destinations - are topics that could have totally been published on WatchMojo, but kept being pushed back for one reason or another. +MsMojo Ok so...Since trying to get the whole purpose of the existence of this channel... I must understand that you've already noticed that there is gonna be a male supremacy here too.
+Olivia Ranson89 I'm pounding my opinion on this sexist channel in protest. Very much like you done by commented on various other people's comments that oppose this stereotype ridden channel's creation. hypocrite... posting a couple comments on a channel doesn't take too much time out of my day. take your own advice and go do something "better" with your life lmao! I am perfectly content with how I spend my time.
+MsMojo Sounds like the Mojo version of the Women's Supplement, where all the fluffy, girlie, luvvie-duvvie stuff goes. As a woman, I feel insulted, but certainly not surprised. Marginalising women is as old as civilisation itself.
So didn't you say Kimberly Pierce was a bad director besides Boys Don't Cry. and also I am glad you are making more female related videos. And even tho I have a ding-a-ling, I am still supporting this channel😂
I'm glad Claire Denis is on the list (Beau Travail is one of my favorite movies), but no Chantal Akerman?! So you're telling me that making one of the best movies of all time (Jeanne Dielmann, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles) isn't good enough to make even the honorable mentions? That's pretty strict, don't you think?
love this channel already! I have to admit I had concerns and was scared that it was going to be all girly and fluffy content but i really do enjoy your content so far so keep it up. Just ignore the haters. They'll get bored and move on to the next thing to hate on.
luke ketchum Wonder Woman? Chantal Akerman? Claire Dennis? Kira Murotova? Ann Hui? Marguerite Duras? Helma Sanders-Brahms? Maya Deren? What is Wonder Woman when compared to the films of those women and many more?
I don't know anyone from that list except Bigelow (okay I kinda recognize the name "Coppola" ), but at the same time, I only know a handful of directors to begin with: Ava Duverny, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Edgar Wright and Uwe Boll
Am I seriously the only person that like the idea of MsMojo? All they're doing is splitting videos, it's not a sexist thing. They never even said a man can't watch these, they just said "Oh! If you just like more girly information, come to this channel." They're just being more organized.
Idk why people are complaining. There was a story where this bar wouldn't shave the side of a woman's head because they didn't serve women & most people agreed. How is this different? Oh right mojo never said that men aren't allowed to view this channel. I can think of a million things.
I think Nora Ephron should either be number 10 or an honourable mention. Out of the few movies they discuss, two of them are just remakes. Sleepless in Seattle is a remake of An Affair to Remember which did equally good in the 50's. You've Got Mail is a remake of Shop Around the Corner from the 40's. Shop Around the corner is actually better than You've Got Mail too.
HIRE THESE PEOPLE: Hey, SagAftra, MGM, Amazon, Paramount, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Netflix, Hulu, Sony: Why not hire these directors who have proven to make good films? Katherine Bigelow, Alison Anders, Penelope Spheeris, Patti Jenkins, Amy Hackerling, Kimbery Pierce, Mary Lambert, Lizzy Borden, Sarah Polly, Mary Herron, Jane Campion, Catherine Breillet, Joan Chen, Amanda Bearse, Guenivere Turner, Jamie Babbit, Greta Gerwig and Sofia Coppola. Is that all we have? Rose McGowan directed a short film. Lynne Ramsey, Mira Nair, Anne Wheeler, Diablo Cody, Patricia Rozema, Ulrike Ottinger, Clara Law, Lena Dunham, Ava DuVernay, Katherine Hardwick, Clair Denis and Chloe Zhao. I can name 100 male directors by memory, it took me forever to name 30 women directors. I didn't realize it was as bad as they said. FUNNIEST FEMALE COMEDIANS Actresses or Entertainers: Roseanne Barr, Mo-Nique, Wanda Sykes, Fran Drescher, Mo Collins, Wendy Liebman, Natasha Legerro, Maria Bamford, Tina Fey, Michelle Wolf, Margaret Cho, Lisa Lampanelli, Awkwafina, Kate McKinnon, Gilda Radner, Molly Shannon, Nicole Sullivan, Chrissie Mayr, Bridget Phetasy, Lilly Singh, Katie Hopkins, Jeneane Garofalo, Joan Rivers, Mindy Kaling, Leslie Jones, Carrie Brownstein, Amy Schumer, Jenny McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Rosie 'O' Donnel, Ellen DeGeneres, Julie Louise Dreyfus, Tiffany Haddish, Melissa McCarthy, Sandra Bernhard, Lily Tomlan, Cheri Oteri, Deborah Wilson, Alex Borstein, Sarah Silverman, Kathy Griffin, Barbara Holm, Paula Poundstone, Whoopi Goldberg, Carol Brunette, Vicki Lawrence, Cindy Williams, Penny Marshall and Brett Butler. (In no particular order, just ranking the best of the best.) Honorable Mentions: Emma Stone, Lindsay Lohan, Alison Jenney, Lucille Ball, Anna Ferris, Doris Day, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jennifer Aniston, Cardi B, Jennifer Tilly, Courtney Cox, Nicki Minaj, Kristin Wiig, Miley Cyrus, Rebel Wilson, Sugar Tits the Bear, Maya Rudolph, Cybill Shephard, Joy Behar, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling, Heather Heying, Courtney Love, Rose McGowan, Hillary Clinton, Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre, Patty LaPone, Lena Dunham, Rachel Bloom, Rosie Perez, Jennifer Lopez (She can be depending on the film), Abrey Plaza, Helen Hunt, Kellie-Jay Keen, Helen Mirren, Paris Hilton, Mimi Rogers, Christina Applegate, Cameron Diaz, Sharon Osbourne, Tilda Swinton, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, Diane Lane, Anna Paquin, Mink Stole, Thelma Blair, Tracey Ullman, Dakota Johnson, Natalie Portman, Kaitlyn Olson and Uma Thurman. (Angry or sarcastic British women always make me laugh, or women that are deadpan and serious all the time, that unintentionally make sarcastic comments without intending to.)
I like this channel already Also people are saying that this channel isnt necessary but I think they're soooo wrong And The people of Watchmojo have made a new channel and already they have more than 18,000 subs, thats cool!!!!!!!
Jennifer Jason Lee directed a film The Anniversary Party, I'm certain that there are more actresses that can write and direct besides Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde. Has Jane Fonda ever directed a film?
+Sir Boast-a-lot I am much more interest in the gender ratio of all youtube users. Maybe there are already far less women using youtube to begin with ?
ok so I can see the point of having a Chanel dedicated to females, in fact I think it was a great idea but I find it slightly sexist that all of the captions are in pink
Well like it or not pink and purple are definitely colors that girls like more than boys. We generally associate blue with boys and pink with girls. What exactly is so weird about this? Is pink suddenly an inferior color because it gives feminists an excuse to complain?
omg please don't kill me but i want to say something about the video and not the fact that is on this new Mojo channel.. may I? here I go: i thought Jane Campion would be first but i see why Kathryn got the spot, so many great minds, like, what am I doing with my life? jajaja
I wish Nora Ephron would've been the director of He's Just Not That Into You.While I love the movie for what it is,this Nora could've given it a much more needed story that could've focused alone on the couple that fans of the movie would vote on most of all:Gigi(Ginnifer Goodwin) and Alex(Justin Long),and in that way given it a less cliched romantic comedy story with a more vibrant storyline. Why is it that male directors get more recognition, like Steven Spielberg nd Alfred Hitchcock, when we could also hand the Oscars to the ladies?Seriously, how can I get some help to become a future female director?
But how did Nancy Meyers not make the list? She has directed some of the best movies, like The Holiday and even The Parent Trap(the latter with which I am familiar with),and she doesn't get a mention?Girl!
Probably a fair Top, but I see the "Another Top 10 Women Directors" coming, because, well... Lina Wertmuller, Lexi Alexander, Rachel Talalay, Isabelle Coixet, Mary Harron, Mary Lambert, Liliana Cavani, Larisa Shepitko, Allison Anders and Kira Muratova. See, already 10 names, and all of those are Award-winning, acclaimed directors with large cult following. That's with nearly no preparation - I'm quite sure both me and Mojo stuff forgot a few names which deserve at least honorable mention as well as these ten.
-Watch Mojo gets a "girls" channel. -makes top 10 female director's video -has Sophia Coppola in it -and has the lady who directed Carrie remake in it #fail
Movies about lesbians and "oppressed" people don't count. They can't be bullshit Oscar runs. It has to be a legit movie. And no, Better Than Chocolate was not that good (despite the awesome girl on girl action in that one)

+Marco Eribes well, I don't even have to switch anything, I just check my subscription box for latest videos.
+Marco Eribes agreed. The reason behind it was cool, but the idea is stupid
+Marco Eribes
I suspect some feminist with power at WatchMojo convinced them that men are misogynistic assholes and women need their own special channel.
Some men may get triggered by female directors,so it would be posted on a channel with wider female audiences
Seriously, why is this not on the regular channel?! I'm sure there are plenty of males here watching this list.
+Narwhal Easily proven by commentaries.
Lol
I don't think this channel is really necessary. These lists can easily fit their main channel.
I agree. Just means we have to wait longer for some lists, but that's still fine by me.
I'm male and I want to see this video too. Wtf?
I understand the idea of this channel, but this list would be great on watchmojo.
+Manta Then just subscribe to this channel as well!
+Manta Then watch the fucking video and stop bitching. Damn baby lmao
+Manta The reason behind it was cool, but the idea is stupid
+Based Hyuga ROFLMAO!
Courage The Cowardly Dog Some people who want to see the video will never find it, because it's in this channel :/
What about Ida Lupino, who began directing in the 1940's when Hollywood was definitely a man's world with hardly any female directors.
Please do another one of these, this is really Americentric. Breillat, Ackerman, Lucretia Martel, Maren Ade, Debra Granik all deserve spots
For those with some awareness that life on earth did not start circa 1990, there's Ida Lupino, Dorothy Arzner, Lina Wertmuller and Leni Riefenstahl.
Lina Wertmuller is a legendary Italian director and the first woman to be nominated for Best Director! How could she be excluded completely?
I don't get why this video wouldn't belong on the regular watchmojo channel. Are men really that threatened by videos like this? Or do you just believe that only women would be interested. I don't get it.
Me neither. It's probably just a move to appease the crazy tumbler feminists and the "political correct" crowd that it's spreading this days throughout the internet like cancer
XsenO don't be an ass. I consider myself a feminist and see this move by watchmojo as pandering. Possibility a way to get stupid cosmetics ads targeted towards me.
+XsenO Please. This is the opposite of feminism.
+Heather Payne
Feminism for equality = great
self proclaimed Tumblr feminism (the one I mentioned) = cancer
Big difference
Still undecided between if the move was to create a "safe space" the PC crowd likes or as you mentioned targeted adds
XsenO
Look, even the "tumblr feminism" that you mentioned would be against this - that's what i meant.
I'm a male, and I still watch these videos.
I'm still waiting for Homomojo. Seriously guys... This is ridiculous.
lol
Ash hen Isis mojo lol
+Fishels Top Ten Gay ISIS couples
Alien Mojo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheap Whores Mojo.
Can people stop whining? please. It's not sexist or sexism. I highly doubt the idea of this is to separate genders. If you don't like this new channel then don't be part of it and ignore it. A disgrace that Susanne Bier isn't even mentioned. But of course, if you're not making films in English you're not worth anything.
+toreswe who?
+toreswe there was a French director that was mentioned.
there were a couple of foreign films and directors shown so...
Maggie Holtorf wow, when all of the picks (or almost all) should be foreign directors having one is really great
Ummm, Agnés Varda, Lynne Ramsay, Chantal Akerman, Lone Scherling, etc...
Jasmim Bettencourt Akerman, one of the greatest film artists of all time (regardless of gender) not being included proves how much Watch Mojo is stupid
Guys in the comments seem to be under the impression that this channel has a no-guys-allowed sign on it.
We have a "everyone is allowed" sign :) -LY
This was one of the first vids on the channel, so yes, there will be some criticism of this channel's existance. One could say it's fake woke and reinforces gender stereotypes.
This list needs to be updated with Patty Jenkins!
Facu AF and ava duvernay
And Greta Gerwig.
Females, always complaining. Watchmojo is not just for males, it's for everyone. I guess expanding your channel will make you more money. I'm ok with that. This is just my opinion. Nice video.
I was the 6th subscriber to a channel with 12,393 amazing
Love This Channel and Love MsMojo
You Guys Rock
How about Ava Duvernay?
No Agnés Warda (possible the greatest female director ever) or Naomi Kawase? O.o
How is Ava Duvernay not on this list or even mentioned?
13th (documentary is on Netflix now),
Selma (Oscar nominated),
Queen Sugar (tv),
A Wrinkle In Time (1st AfricanAmerican & 3rd woman ever to be given a $100Million dollar budget for a film)...
*Come On MsMojo, y’all missed a great one!!

+Toma M We salute you Toma M!
+MsMojo I am actually an otherkin. Soooo when will you make a channel about famous cat people/events in history?
+Based Hyuga haha
Me too!
+Toma M I'm a gay guy not sure if that counts LOL
why couldn't you put this list on your normal channel. The original watchmojo channel is running out of ideas.
+mariogamefreak1 both channels use the same people so they can't really run out of ideas.
You should have included Mira Nair's name in the list. She has got some of the most amazing films to her credit.
I loved Monsoon Wedding.
Hi everyone, welcome to our new channel MsMojo! We will be publishing 1 video per day early on, but over time we will have as many videos on MsMojo as we have on WatchMojo. lol the b.s., "for girls and guys"!! I laughed so hard when I read that.
+TheEsdrasTube holy shit you comment angry comments on EVERY VIDEO. Stop wallowing in your misery and find something better to do with your life

I'm a guy that's subscribing to this channel.
Updated version includes:
- Greta Gerwig
- Patty Jenkins
- Marielle Heller
WTF ???? Where is Lynne Ramsay? Not even honorable mention??
I actually think that this channel will become really big, keep it up WatchMojo!
Great video! I definitely think it should have gone on the main channel though, these amazing people need as wide an audience as possible!
Kathryn Bigelow also directed "Strange Days" with Ralph Fiennes. A great and incredibly underrated movie!
That movie was a trip, and I had no idea Bigelow directed.
So didn't you say Kimberly Pierce was a bad director besides Boys Don't Cry. and also I am glad you are making more female related videos. And even tho I have a ding-a-ling, I am still supporting this channel😂
Awesome list. I would have liked to see Samira Makhmalbaf (daughter of Mohsen Makhmalbaf), who is a great director as well. Maybe some other time.
Kathryn Bigelow directed Blue Steel ,Strange Days and The Loveless and The Hurt Locker those movies was hard core in tone she has my respect .
+23RedTechno She's definitely talented
Olivia Ranson89 Yes she is
I'm glad Claire Denis is on the list (Beau Travail is one of my favorite movies), but no Chantal Akerman?! I've been waiting for this list for years! Finally!!!!!
There's such a small amount that they had to include the person who directed the Carrie remake.
I feel like Catherine Hardwicke should have at least been an honorable mention
Knew Bigelow would be #1.
love this channel already! I have to admit I had concerns and was scared that it was going to be all girly and fluffy content but i really do enjoy your content so far so keep it up. Just ignore the haters. They'll get bored and move on to the next thing to hate on.
My favorite female director is Patty Jenkins.
Love it! Subscribed!
Where is Patty Jenkins? After directing Wonder Woman, she deserves to be on this list.
luke ketchum also monster was a great movie she is one of the best director's in my opinion!
luke ketchum Wonder Woman? Chantal Akerman? Claire Dennis? Kira Murotova? Ann Hui? Marguerite Duras? Helma Sanders-Brahms? Maya Deren? What is Wonder Woman when compared to the films of those women and many more?
Exactly.
Prano Bailey Bond is my favourite woman filmmaker. CENSOR is one of my favourite films in recent years!
My top 10 Female Directors is this
10 Catherine Hardwicke
9 Mira Nair
8 Nora Ephron
7 Debra Granik
6 Nancy Meyers
5 Mary Harron
4 Sofia Coppola
3 The Wachowskis Sisters
2 Jane Campion
1 Kathryn Bigelow
Honorable Mentions: Penny Marshall , Julie Taymor, Jodie Foster, Amy Heckerling, Lynne Ramsay, Kelly Reichardt
I also want to mention Gillian Armstrong
no Susanne Bier or Marguerite Duras???
Awesome video!!! Far too often you don't look at the director of a film! Had no idea hurt locker was so groundbreaking! Thanks!
+Brett “PurplePanda” Panda you're not the only one:) 17k like it too
Sofia Coppola is my fav!!!
+anna me too!!
The timing of this is so perfect 👌
The only female filmmaker I like and respect is Kinuyo Tanaka, also one of the legendary actresses of Japan. No one else
Idk why people are complaining. There was a story where this bar wouldn't shave the side of a woman's head because they didn't serve women & most people agreed. How is this different? Oh right mojo never said that men aren't allowed to view this channel. I can think of a million things.
lol not a bar, barber shop.
Don't forget Lina Wertmuller (SEVEN BEAUTIES), Julia Ducournau (RAW) and Chloe Zhao (The RIDER).
Why didn't you put this on WatchMojo? Now I have to go all the way here.
HIRE THESE PEOPLE: Hey, SagAftra, MGM, Amazon, Paramount, Universal, 20th Century Fox, Netflix, Hulu, Sony: Why not hire these directors who have proven to make good films? Katherine Bigelow, Alison Anders, Penelope Spheeris, Patti Jenkins, Amy Hackerling, Kimbery Pierce, Mary Lambert, Lizzy Borden, Sarah Polly, Mary Herron, Jane Campion, Catherine Breillet, Joan Chen, Amanda Bearse, Guenivere Turner, Jamie Babbit, Greta Gerwig and Sofia Coppola. Is that all we have? Rose McGowan directed a short film. Lynne Ramsey, Mira Nair, Anne Wheeler, Diablo Cody, Patricia Rozema, Ulrike Ottinger, Clara Law, Lena Dunham, Ava DuVernay, Katherine Hardwick, Clair Denis and Chloe Zhao. I can name 100 male directors by memory, it took me forever to name 30 women directors. I didn't realize it was as bad as they said. FUNNIEST FEMALE COMEDIANS Actresses or Entertainers: Roseanne Barr, Mo-Nique, Wanda Sykes, Fran Drescher, Mo Collins, Wendy Liebman, Natasha Legerro, Maria Bamford, Tina Fey, Michelle Wolf, Margaret Cho, Lisa Lampanelli, Awkwafina, Kate McKinnon, Gilda Radner, Molly Shannon, Nicole Sullivan, Chrissie Mayr, Bridget Phetasy, Lilly Singh, Katie Hopkins, Jeneane Garofalo, Joan Rivers, Mindy Kaling, Leslie Jones, Carrie Brownstein, Amy Schumer, Jenny McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Rosie 'O' Donnel, Ellen DeGeneres, Julie Louise Dreyfus, Tiffany Haddish, Melissa McCarthy, Sandra Bernhard, Lily Tomlan, Cheri Oteri, Deborah Wilson, Alex Borstein, Sarah Silverman, Kathy Griffin, Barbara Holm, Paula Poundstone, Whoopi Goldberg, Carol Brunette, Vicki Lawrence, Cindy Williams, Penny Marshall and Brett Butler. (In no particular order, just ranking the best of the best.) Honorable Mentions: Emma Stone, Lindsay Lohan, Alison Jenney, Lucille Ball, Anna Ferris, Doris Day, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jennifer Aniston, Cardi B, Jennifer Tilly, Courtney Cox, Nicki Minaj, Kristin Wiig, Miley Cyrus, Rebel Wilson, Sugar Tits the Bear, Maya Rudolph, Cybill Shephard, Joy Behar, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling, Heather Heying, Courtney Love, Rose McGowan, Hillary Clinton, Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre, Patty LaPone, Lena Dunham, Rachel Bloom, Rosie Perez, Jennifer Lopez (She can be depending on the film), Abrey Plaza, Helen Hunt, Kellie-Jay Keen, Helen Mirren, Paris Hilton, Mimi Rogers, Christina Applegate, Cameron Diaz, Sharon Osbourne, Tilda Swinton, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, Diane Lane, Anna Paquin, Mink Stole, Thelma Blair, Tracey Ullman, Dakota Johnson, Natalie Portman, Kaitlyn Olson and Uma Thurman. (Angry or sarcastic British women always make me laugh, or women that are deadpan and serious all the time, that unintentionally make sarcastic comments without intending to.)
I'm not a "MsMojo" and I really wanted to see this, man. Why is that not on the main channel
I'm excited to see the content this channel provides :)
This comment section is a fishing net for trolls. Love it!
I'm a guy and I'm interested in this list. No need to separate, Watch Mojo.
I liked this list! Subscribed!
Great video!
Asia Argento?
Regardless of what people think of Asia Argento, The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things and Scarlett Diva are well done films.
Those that have worked in the entertainment industry who is better to work with men or women directors?
That fact that you didn’t at minimum acknowledge Ava DuVernay or Gina Prince-Bythewood is completely disheartening
I would really enjoy a top 10 female royalty/monarchs, thank you!
It will be funny if the majority of viewers here are males from the other channel.
Dylan007mayhew that would be kind of awesome.
I like this channel already
Also people are saying that this channel isnt necessary but I think they're soooo wrong
And The people of Watchmojo have made a new channel and already they have more than 18,000 subs, thats cool!!!!!!!
I like Kelly Reichhardt, Angelina Jolie, Bigelow and Patty Jenkins. They aren’t high on my list. I haven’t seen many
Maybe she's not the best, but I like Nancy Meyers films (:
Jennifer Jason Lee directed a film The Anniversary Party, I'm certain that there are more actresses that can write and direct besides Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde. Has Jane Fonda ever directed a film?
I like "Ava DuVernay."
Could you do a countdown of underrated children's's movies?
Im kinda curious. How many male subs does MsMojo have compared to female subs.
+Sir Boast-a-lot I am much more interest in the gender ratio of all youtube users. Maybe there are already far less women using youtube to begin with ?
+buciallstar I wasn't able to get any reliable data on the ratio of people who use youtube, but more men have youtube accounts.
The narrator keeps saying "female" directors but the video title says "women".
+Based Hyuga no they're not. there are women who were assigned as male at birth.
ok so I can see the point of having a Chanel dedicated to females, in fact I think it was a great idea but I find it slightly sexist that all of the captions are in pink
+relatable sloth blogs well, watchmojo is blue.
I think both should be changed to yellow, because then all genders will be equally annoyed.
Well like it or not pink and purple are definitely colors that girls like more than boys. We generally associate blue with boys and pink with girls. What exactly is so weird about this? Is pink suddenly an inferior color because it gives feminists an excuse to complain?
12,394th subscriber. Remember that.
We Will Never Forget
Beavispdx lol
omg please don't kill me but i want to say something about the video and not the fact that is on this new Mojo channel.. may I? here I go: i thought Jane Campion would be first but i see why Kathryn got the spot, so many great minds, like, what am I doing with my life? jajaja
Ida Lupino, not even mentioned?
why is this not on...
okay that was a boring question
strongwise (High five)
What about Nancy Meyers?
My favourite female director is Martha Fiennes. Onegin is one of the most stunning films I have ever seen.
Where is Ava DuVernay in this list?? What are you thinking???!!!!
What movie is that from 0:03
why isnt this on the main channel?
There should have been images of these female directors as well on the video as an inlet or something. That would have helped a lot.
Good list especially Harron. Yeah there should be a second list at some point
PictureProductStudio not forgetting the greatest of them all, Chantal Akerman
What about Ava DuVernay or Kelly Reinhardt or Lynne Ramsey or Patty Jenkins
Where's Patty Jenkins or Jennifer Kent??
I have yet to see "When Harry met Sally". I heard often enough that it is regarded as the best in the romantic/comedy genre.
How can you not include Ava Duvernay ??? It's sad
-Watch Mojo gets a "girls" channel.
-makes top 10 female director's video
-has Sophia Coppola in it
-and has the lady who directed Carrie remake in it
#fail
+Johnny Quid And I can easily list Another 10 great women directors, by the way.
Movies about lesbians and "oppressed" people don't count. They can't be bullshit Oscar runs. It has to be a legit movie. And no, Better Than Chocolate was not that good (despite the awesome girl on girl action in that one)
I know this comment was 6 months ago but 'American Psycho' was directed by a woman and its a fantastic film
Susanne Bier? No? Oh, ok.
