  • OneDrive is Microsoft's Cloud storage. There are three sync icons for files and folders - cloud-only, locally available, and Always keep on this device. I answer the following questions in this video. Why do folders show the cloud-only icon when it contains multiple sync file types? When you create a folder and add a file, what icon do the file and folder have? What is the easiest way to make sure a folder, and all the files in it, are cloud-only? What is the default icon when uploading a file to a folder? If you use Storage Sense, what icon will it affect?
    Three sync icons for OneDrive Work or School and OneDrive for Home:
    1) Online-only files - blue cloud icon
    2) Locally Available files - a green checkmark icon
    3) Always keep on this device - a white checkmark icon
    Both locally available and always keep on this device are the same! The only exception is if you are using Storage Sense AND your hard drive is full.

    I'm a recent subscriber, and because I'm a recent adopter of MS 365's Cloud, your info is extremely helpful!

    You describe and explain really well. Even Microsoft can't explain any better (BTW they don't at all). Good work.

    I hope you discuss synching issues here because of illegal characters that just seemed to start happening for no clear reason and any character I changed didn't help???

    When or how does Onedrive know to put the file on cloud and remove from PC and turn the file icon from green tick to blue cloud icon?

    Hi Chris, Is it possible to remove the onedrive icons from my desktop and onedrive continue to sync?

      Hello, Vicki. I do not believe that is possible. Do you just not like seeing the icons?

    • @Fgingell4949
      @Fgingell4949 Год назад

      @Vicki no you cannot remove the icons as this is a key indicator on the health of your files and their connection in their cloud storage locations (your OneDrive), You CAN hide the status column in the File Explorer view by right clicking on the column row and unchecking "status" option.

    Do you know how to reinstall the sync icons (Desktop, Documents, Pictures) for OneDrive on Windows? I deleted them by mistake. I have uninstalled OneDrive and reinstalled but they are still gone. ☹

      See if this works. Right click OD and go to Setting,. Click Backup tab. Here is a screenshot drive.google.com/file/d/12-q6C3bpGIoAlZv3hSUe3eODC6T_ajpC/view?usp=drivesdk

    I'm on a mac. What's the grey cloud? This video just made more confusion. You need to define your platform.

    • @ChrisMenardTraining
      @ChrisMenardTraining  2 года назад

      I don't have a mac to test, but the gray icon means you're not signed in, or OneDrive setup hasn't been completed.

      @@ChrisMenardTraining Thanks, which i don't understand why. It's been days on my new install.
      Maybe files don't download until asked? The same files show up on both old and new mac, so I suppose they are there and safe.
