- Todd asked me what the best European river cruise line would be for younger passengers? These are the 4 I recommended he looks at, Thoughts?

Our first river cruise was Viking in our mid-50s. Yes lots of older guests but we met some wonderfully interesting older guests. Made it extreme interesting. We were definitely 'younger' but the age range was 22-99. We loved our interaction with the 'older' guests. The cruise was fabulous. Have fun.
We did a 15 day Avalon cruise May 2023 after researching the things in your river cruise videos. It was a Magical time.
Thank you for your insight.
We went on Avalon Waterways on a land & river cruise starting in Prague and then going down the Danube. The experience was absolutely wonderful, the service was great and the food was great and local. They had a wide range of things, since then I think they’ve gotten even more active. The one thing I did like is that they had a “gentle walkers” group for people on the ship that couldn’t be as active. They were very accommodating with bringing vans, using elevators that were not accessible to the public etc. So you could have a wonderful experience in a situation of multigenerational family cruise.
Good short video, Gary. I did go on one AMAWaterways river cruise here fairly recently and found the bikes were in poor condition. Something your viewers may want to be aware of.
Other than that, the cruise was wonderful.
Going on AMAWaterways in March 2023 and one of the selling points was the fact you mentioned, Gary. That being, active excursions can include bike rides. Cheers!
I've done several Viking river cruises as I've aged 55-62. I've found that a number of their excursions are strenuous, with lots of walking and sometimes hills. I'd say younger cruisers with Viking will see the major sights and get a decent workout.
I think I'm going to try my first river cruise next Summer - will be very interesting to see how it works as a 31 year old!
Interesting. It’s very different to ocean cruising and more like an escorted tour type thing.
I'm in my 30s Fraser and I met other travelers in their 30s on my first river cruise. Like Gary said, It's very different from an ocean cruise for sure.
@@koartravel oh, that’s so interesting - good to know!
As long as you’re into history and culture, I think you will love it.
@@koartraveldo you prefer Avalon or emerald?
I went on a Viking cruise at 25 and I loved it .. going on another next month on the Danube
Agree with you re Emerald. We have been with Emerald on the Danube and Rhine. Both excellent and good choice of activities and excursions.
Gary, you are so right are about the active nature of Avalon, Amawaterways & Emerald river cruises. All my Avalon & Amawaterways cruises were quite engaging and I met younger folks in there.
Another that I have found in my research is Scenic. Bikes onboard and an active passenger base for the most part.
Thanks👍🏻
I’ve cruised with AMA and Avalon and had great experiences with both. When researching cruises a glance at daily excursions will tell you a lot about the cruise. My husband and I are active and travel in groups with younger people and have never been the couple that’s holding the group back.
Old people can be very active. I’m in my mid-50’s and am recovering from heart surgery so I think even a walking tour will be more than sufficient exercise for me. I’m interested in a river cruise to see the history and middle of the city.
Took Avalon in 2018, and would agree with the active clientele, but I was 50, my wife was 48, and we were the youngest by 10 years.
I feel like there is an untapped market for people in their 40s and early 50s for river cruising. The idea of a slightly more subdued but luxurious cruising experience that's more intimate and very localized appeals to me, and I'm only 34. That said, it's tough for lines to get over the general and unfortunate perception about cruising being for old people only. People still think that way about ocean cruising even though Royal Caribbean and Carnival have appealed to families for decades.
We cruised emerald in 2019 down the Danube. It is an active cruise however I will say even in your early to mid-50s you are at least 10 to 20 years younger than the average person on that cruise. We also noted that some third-party outfitters will put lots of guests on the boat for their own private bike excursions along side the canals and rivers. Well these groups tend to be younger they also also tend to hang out with themselves. So I would say while yes emerald can be younger it isn’t going to be substantially younger than most of the other lines.
Emerald is excellent. You certainly need to be fit to keep up with their activities. We went on the Douro last year and did a lot of strenuous walks. River cruises are the best!!
We also recommend Riverside Luxury Cruises.
Well as someone that has done a lot of group tours this doesnt suprised me, w most group tours there are mostly 45+. I’ll be going on my first river cruise next year so it’ll be interesting w all the info in gathering on which one I’ll finally choose to go on.
Good info!
Glad it was helpful!
I'd love to hear your opinion on nicko cruises, if you've tried them.
We are going on the Jewel of the Rhine July 29th and we just got notified that the water levels were so low that the ship would be sailing out of Amsterdam instead of Basel. Do you know how this change will effect the intinery for the ports? I can't seem to find an answer online.
Just discovered ‘Arosa’ river cruises designed for families. However, I have found very little online about the line. Any thoughts are welcome! Thank you
Hi Gottlieb,
A-ROSA is focused on the European/German market rather than the US/Canada market. That's one of the major reasons. Hope that helped.
Why don’t river cruises allow you yo book online? Some of them don’t even list the price
Hi Michelle,
Some do allow you to book online like Viking, Emerald & Uniworld. Which river cruise line were you trying to book online?
Is it U or You by Uniworld? Thx. By the way, we are fans of your RUclips channel :)
U by Uniworld 👍🏻
@@tipsfortravellers is U by Uniworld still available? My wife and I want to go on a river cruise next summer and both in our early thirties. I’ve looked at multiple brands, but can’t find booking info for U by Uniworld.
How about TUI ?
It's good to work in river advice ag group
I requested a brochure from Viking and now they won’t stop hounding me. They really want people to go on their cruises.
Yep - that is the Viking way SG. You ask once and they never stop. You can call them to stop sending your the brochures or remove you from their list.
So what? It’s just information. I don’t see any harm here.
So, how old is this presenter?? He's no spring chicken!! Why are people so obsessed with how old the other people are?? duh
Not sure what Gary's age has to do with it, he's just answering a question from a viewer. Also, people like to vacation with other people with whom they can relate. Age isn't everything, but it is generally indicative of certain qualities. If you're in your 20s, you're not going to find many people in their 70s that want to party with you. If you're in your 70s, you're probably not going to appreciate being on a ship that appeals to people in their 20s.
