WHY not, Did not the singers in the TEMPLE of GOD not be closer to HIM, execption was in the Holy of Holies. I see no issue with the choir being that close to HIM. I speak from 49 yrs as a RC Priest.

I cannot think that the choir should be in the sanctuary either!!
It seems inusual especially in an old church where their must be an appropriate place for them to be.this is not a concert after all!
I've never seen a Catholic choir in the sanctuary.
