great location, there was some great hifi equipment there!, and i thought i was sophisticated with my creative 5.1 sound blaster audigy live card and speakers!!!
I started my career as a projectionist with Showcase in the early 90's. I worked in Leeds but I did a cover shift in this cinema. Back in the film days one projectionist would run all 14 screens with the help of the automation. At the end of each screening the films had to be laced up through the projector ready for the next show. On a 14 hour shift you could have laced up and run 70 performances in a day. Since the demise of film, projectionists are no longer needed and the projection rooms run fully automated. The conveyor belts were used both for transporting film cans and bags of corn. The kitchen area with the fire suppression system is where the cinema popped their own popcorn.
My dad used to take me and my older brother to Leeds Showcase when we were kids (Late 90's-early 2000's). Those were good times. Back when good movies were still coming out, not the woke rubbish that's coming out nowadays. I also remember the old decor in there. It had a very American 80's look to it. It's a shame they ripped it all out and replaced it with a load of soulless airport lobby-looking crap. I saw a meme a while ago that said "I spent the best nights of my life not knowing they were significant". How true that is. You don't know what you had until it's gone.
Very sad seeing this place smashed to pieces by those social rejects, doesn't give me much hope for the future! I remember when this place first opened back in 1989 was the first multiplex I ever went in. Thanks for another great video explore.
Great video Matt, your video was very informative you certainly know your stuff l never thought there was so much to run a cinema, such a shame to see all the vandalism, but a great watch, love the drone footage thanks for sharing.
Matt I love these cinema videos and love that u explain it all and how it works/worked I find it all so interesting, and love how u get so excited, I'm getting addicted to these prefer the older ones but they must be hard to come by, although most towns seem to have an old cinema that's either been turned into a bingo hall or dance studio or something, anyway great video such a waste it's just gonna get knocked down though, thanks for sharing 👍
You were in your element in that projection room Matt, you sure do know your stuff. I think cinemas are a thing of the past, especially now. It's easier just to buy a dvd and your own snacks and watch in the comfort of your own home x
I wish someone would explore the abandoned point cinema in Milton keyens, it’s due to be demolished and has great memories for me, would be a fascinating watch, also quite a famous and large building, just sitting there right now slowly rotting away.
My local Showcase is virtually identical to this one except my local had much nicer colour seating and wall decoration. Also they have now totally revamped it into a de-lux cinema with stadium seating and electronic recliner seats. It’s an impressive place to watch a film.
Over in New Zealand all the cinemas are going small again, being set up in local Theatres. Lots of the large rip off places have shut. My Parents go weekly and it's cheap and the food and drinks are cheap as well.
Blimey, I never new it was smashed up. I used to go here when I was a teenager. I could see it was boarded up when we went into lockdown last year. Didn't realise it was that bad.
Such a shame to see these places close but it’s the sign of the times. And typical bellends trashing the places...A small theatre in town here has almost the same seats on the balcony. They are trying to raise funds to refurbish them. The ones in each Cinima are almost mint. Probably all gone now. Serviced one of these Ashly Amps before (US) made. Bullet proof and well made amps. Most likely easy fixes on the ones labels faulty....All those JBL speakers still there too! Ahhhhhhh anyhooooo Cracking vid as always Mat!
I saw this on Charles Veitch you tube about 2 week ago ,and he was and is not urban explorer ,I did wish he had got in as this did open up the activity, he did want to but saw the glass danger. good one
A cinema explore looking forward to it 🍿 When the police station explore coming out? The kids at the start was helpful Cinema’s are so expensive now days As always your information is very good and interesting to take In thanks Matt
I used to regularly first film I watched there was jurassic Park 1993 . It hardly changed over the years apart from there used to be a ticket sales booth both sides .going to miss there cheesy nacos lol 😆
Hi Matt, I wouldn’t recommend turning those switch panels on, I’m speaking as an electrician, it can go wrong if someone hasn’t isolated it properly or tampered with it. Hopefully someone’s isolated it further back. Those panels can carry a couple thousand amps and they can give a hell of a splash
This was built on the famous 'Belle Vue' Site. Belle Vue was a entertainment park and very unique. The Bob's, Water Chute, Zoo and Speedway Track were Historical to Manchester. This place goes much deeper in its legendary iconic fame for those who remember. 💯
If they had any planning sense they'd have returned the entire site to it's former Botanical Garden's state, rather than yet another new school build. For every school built at least one or two are being demolished, waste of money!
Don’t know if anyone else has commented on the pricing. The studio’s charged that much money for the film the Cinema was left with about 30% of the ticket sales. So that’s why you have high prices for popcorn, hotdogs and drinks. The was something on the tele a few months ago about how the cinemas all opening back up after all this. They spoke about the prices and they said something like 60 - 70% of all sale is the confectionery as the ticket sale is a small percentage cause of the studio takings. First time viewer and I like your Vlog 👍👍👍
Many thanks for a very well presented Video and excellent description on all the workingsof equipment .So sad to see this type of building become a yobs playground. AND LIKE YOU i HOPE THE halon HAS BEEN DE-COMMISSIONED. I hsve seen the result of activation of a system and poor evacuation of building whilst working i9n a hospital.
Those walls are actually pretty sound dampening I have them at my work and I work in a metal construction well a lot of grinders and hammering is going on normally it will echo around and that’s not a problem withe those walls
Strange they used metal on walls I guess that would not be good sound wise. Mind you like you said it does not have echo much in the room. Just strange why metal on walls.
Look this one up on Google Street view for a real before and after picture, sad to see, a lot of investment went into this place and it's catch 22 for the owners to get their money back, charge more to get in or go cheap and hope more people use it. Covid may see the end of more places like this.
The moment they stopped us smoking, I was gone. Well they wouldn't hit pause for us, and the movies just got longer. Think last movie I saw was Easy Rider, but that was in an old cinema which had been turned into a bingo hall, and once a year the owner, who was a biker would rerun Easy Rider, and we'd all come over with plenty of booze, and smoke whatever we wanted. Some of us remember smoking in our hospital beds too. If the same people who had stopped us smoking back in the early days, we would not have cars or trucks.. think that sort ware around then too that is Gottlieb Daimler got the title first combustion engineer instead of Shuttleworth... "What you want put in inflamible gas to cause an explosion in an metal chamber bu making a spark? You must be must be mad, get out patent denied!" Damned snowflakes
For someone who claims to be an EX projectionist your knowledge is very limited. the 4k you refer to @24 mins Means its a 4K digital projector NOT 4k of light as that would be to much for that hall and that Throw of light. You refer to Academy ratio (3x4) as 16x9 wwhich is a tv wide screen ratio. also you use the Term FLAT for Academy ratio the term FLAT is for NON 3D projection At 25.05 you point to the Sound Head Surely you remember the sound is 12 and a half frames ahead from the Gate so would not be so close. apart from that i enjoy your Exploits

Thanks for the inside info I hope nobody messes with the halon system it must have been really hectic when running the cinemas with film

When the police station explore coming out?
The kids at the start was helpful
Cinema’s are so expensive now days
As always your information is very good and interesting to take In thanks Matt
The fire suppression system looks like an ansul system, it sprays a chemical foam and usually used in kitchens, expensive systems
The intro was a bit like the shopping mall in the film dawn of the dead 1978 kinda creepy
I used to regularly first film I watched there was jurassic Park 1993 . It hardly changed over the years apart from there used to be a ticket sales booth both sides .going to miss there cheesy nacos lol 😆

thank you sir lord matthew in joy watch
Cinemas are ridiculously expensive and the companies are greedy, it is sad to see it smashed up though.
The companies are way too greedy!
Cineworld has an unlimited card so roughly £16 a month for unlimited films, use to watch about 100 films per year
Don’t know if anyone else has commented on the pricing.

Sad thing is you will probly have a lot more cinemas to explore after covid

Try watching it again as it took forever to process the HD for some reason

Strange they used metal on walls I guess that would not be good sound wise. Mind you like you said it does not have echo much in the room. Just strange why metal on walls.
Somehow I just don't associate going to the movies with watching dogs racing too.....
Saw Lord of the Rings there years ago
