R.I.P. to these actors from the film, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jason Robards, Eileen Ryan, Phillip Baker Hall, Ricky Jay, Henry Gibson, Danny Wells and Melinda Dillon
Heartbreaking. I think every one of these actors knew they were in a masterpiece of a movie, and gave it 100%. What a film, what a cast, what a legacy.
This song is for people who lost someone they loved. For me it was my mom on 12/23/06 and my dad on 02/20/22. This song is also for people who are facing hardships who need a pick me up.
Just watched Magnolia again after seeing it in a theater so long ago. it hit me so much harder this time, and the songs made me weep. Aimee Mann is an absolute, pure genius.
I don't think I could watch it again. It would turn me into depression mode again. Soundtrack is a masterpiece, but y'all it'll make you weep til your last breath.
that's a masterpiece when you think about it.. technically and emotionally really.. this one's going to creep up and be one of the-regarded bests many generations from now.. a few of us know it already but.. one of those things that has to set in before its significance is fully realized
My brother committed suicide last weekend by overdosing on something. He was found with headphones on, presumably listening to something. This is his youtube account. He made a playlist containing 6 songs that was edited the day he passed. This is one of the 6 songs. With the method he used, he was dead after about 30 minutes, probably unconscious around 12 minutes. I like to think that it was peaceful for him with his music on. I love you Myles, I'll miss you everyday for the rest of my life.
You poor soul I just wanna say that I've been suicidal before many times. Throughout my life. I've had 7 attempts on my own life. It is one of the most traumatic things that you can go through. Your brain is trying to kill you. Snuff your life out. Sometimes I cannot believe I'm still alive when I wanted to end it so many times. Some days I wish I won't wake up the next day. Other days I find hope. It's all so subjective. No one has the right answer. Some make it. Some don't. I'm still here.
Watched this film for the first time a couple of days ago. I must say that I don't entirely love some of PTA's work, at least out of what I've seen. I thought that _There Will Be Blood_ and _Phantom Thread_ were very good, but they didn't have the kind of impact on me that they do for most people. The only film of his that I genuinely loved prior to this was _Boogie Nights._ But somehow, this film just did it for me. Everything about the film just clicked for me. The acting, the direction, the writing, the fact that it didn't really feel like three hours, but one of the best things about this film for me was the soundtrack. I'm not very familiar with Aimee Mann's music, but upon hearing this as well as the rest of her songs for this movie, I'd like to hear more. Not to mention, the scene where all the principle characters start singing along to this song might be my favorite scene in the movie. It was just something so unexpected that I didn't know I needed until I saw it. And let me just say, only Paul Thomas Anderson could do a scene like that and not make it feel out of place and cheesy.
Agree 100% I dismissed PTA's work because of how just fine I thought there will be blood and phantom thread were, this and boogie nights are leagues above

I was amazed at how many times this song was posted on RUclips, then almost as many covers! The reason I chose this post to include with my favorites above all the others was it had the correct volume as my other favorites and the presentation was unique, i thought. That's all i know about it- Thanks!

Actually its not a depressing "give up". Its the characters in the story telling themselves to "give up" fighting the past because, well, "its not going to stop". The past is not through with you.

I know PTA has been know to be pretty terrible but I hope he’s changed in the 23 years since magnolia launched. I still remember buying this on dvd. I remember where I was and how it felt outside. Some that are quoting lyrics from Aimee’s songs. I hope one day people can see this like we see Fellini now, I think there’s something beautifully poetic about everything odd in this film.

[Verse 1]
It's not what you thought
When you first began it
You got what you want
Now you can hardly stand it, though
By now you know
[Refrain]
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up

And you have finally found it
You think one drink
Will shrink you till you're underground
And living down
[Refrain]
But it's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
[Bridge]
Prepare a list for what you need
Before you sign away the deed
[Refrain]
'Cause it's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
Till you wise up
[Outro]
No, it's not going to stop
Till you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
So just give up
