The absolute diva, the queen of fado Amalia Rodrigues. She carries in her voice the portuguese suffering. She sings the portuguese soul and every time she sings, she lets it all out and anyone can understand that feeling specially the portuguese. I cried so many times listening to her!
She's The Queen!!! Amália Rodrigues well done! THANK you for the portuguese reaction! You can check Amália internacional career and the colaborations she have done . .If you want the check a male fado Singer, try Camané, Ricardo Ribeiro, or the Grammys winner Carlos do Carmo! 😉🤘🏼

This song is kind of the embodiment of fado. She started by saying "It was God's will...". So it was her fate, God's will. Fado is a way of singing that is like the vocal purge of intense emotions, and the voice is the instrument that mimics the ups and downs of the emotions with ultimate control, like what you feel is internal and you suffer quietly and move on with life. Yes, it's a cry that comes from the depths of anguish. But there is also happy fado. You said the words perfectly and I grateful for your evaluation and appreciation of our Fado music. Amalia Rodrigues is our Queen 👑. Thank you ❤️
I love you have analised Amália Rodrigues, she still is the biggest fado singer ever, although there are many other very good fadistas. About the word fado, you should pronounce it longer on the a, as if it was written like that: fádu.
Try Carlos do Carmo.... FADO is so important for us. We have a saying "Todos nós, temos Amália na voz e temos na sua voz a voz de todos nós" - We all have Amália in our voice and we have in her voice, the voice of all of us.
mt favorite song from Amália is called Fado Português. Another great Fado artist from the same times was Maria Teresa de Noronha. and yes, you are pronnouncing it right now ahah
Fado music is a form of Portuguese singing that is often associated with pubs, cafés, and restaurants. This music genre officially originated in Portugal around the 1820s, though it is thought to have much earlier origins. Fado is known for how expressive and profoundly melancholic it is. In fado music, the musician will sing about the hard realities of daily life, balancing both resignation and hopefulness that a resolution to its torments can still occur. It can be described by using the Portuguese word “saudade,” which means “longing” and stands for a feeling of loss. This loss is generally permanent and The fado genre was brought to the music world mainstream by Rainha do Fado (Queen of Fado) Amalia Rodrigues (July 23, 1920 - October 6, 1999). Known as Amalia throughout the world, she became one of the most important personalities for the genre and the main inspiration for contemporary and modern fado. Amalia had a personality, charisma, extraordinary timbre of voice, and beauty that made her an acclaimed artist whose services were requested by Monarchs and Presidents. By the time of her death, Amalia had received over 40 decorations and honors for her music, stage presence, and philanthropy including the Legion d’Honneur by the French government. She was given a state funeral and her remains are in Lisbon’s National Pantheon (the only woman to have the honor). Amalia single-handedly placed fado on the world map.Since the early 21st century and the influence of Amalia Rodrigues, there is newfound popularity in this type of music. Modern fado has incorporated new instruments including piano, violin, accordion. They have also begun combining fado with other popular genres. Some current artists of this genre include Madredeus, Ana Moura, Dulce Pontes, and Mariza. Mariza, in particular, is highly popular, winning numerous awards in the World Music category and has been featured in the David Letterman show.of long-term consequence. Fado music often has one or two 12 string guitars, one or two violas, and sometimes a small 8 string bass.
When you want to give another try to the portuguese voices: - Madredeus - o pastor - Carlos do Carmo - por Morrer Uma Andorinha - Antonio Variações - o corpo é que paga (pop music)
The word you are looking for at the beginning is : SAUDADE ! Many greetings and thanks for your channel ! I felt immediately in Love with the Portuguese music, the first time I heard it, forty years ago and you are right : no words needed ! Your presentation is deeply touching, like Portuguese music ! You got the "Saudade" feeling ! ❤
The poem is so beautiful in her voice... the greatest voice of FADO music ever! You don't understand the language, but if you did...Oh! My Good! amália rodrigues.
Amália is the Queen if Fado! There is a Portuguese pop song that says: "Todos nós temos Amália na voz, e temos na sua voz a voz de todos nós.", which means, we all have Amália in our voices, and in her voice the voice of us all.
Amália (Rodrigues) was (IS) THE voice of Fado. This song was played in her funeral, as it was her last wish. "Strange way of life" (roughly translated).
Also: The most known form of Fado is that "nostalgia" (saudade), sadness feeling, but there are other ways andcthemes of Fado, wich (in it's roots) come from singing about everyday events. There are happy Fados, too.. About drinkingvout with friends and get home wasted, get screamed at by the wife, etc. Others about Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto (cities) and streets, etc.
The Queen Of Fado In 1959, Variety on an enquire in 35 countries elected Amália , Edith Piaf, Judy Garland and Lena Horne , the Best 4 singers of the World I love Amália! I Saw her in 61 concerts in Lisboa, Beyrouth, Jerusalém, Paris, Perugia, Rome........ I AM a fanatic!
My husband and I really like your videos! We have some suggestions for you, on Fado. You asked for male voices. Carlos do Carmo was the quintessential male fadista: ruclips.net/video/yJ5bxWI2puw/видео.html He wasn't the most technical or spectacular singer (as opposed to Mariza, for example), but he was highly revered nevertheless. Camané is an excellent male fadista, slightly more contemporary and probably better as a singer per se. * Traditional instruments, w/ portuguese guitar: ruclips.net/video/DPgaIGEw8Gg/видео.html * Accompanied only by piano (also done sometimes in fado): ruclips.net/video/EM008zcvKg0/видео.html A few suggestions for female fadistas as well. These are younger, and stars in their own right, although of course not as internationally famous as Mariza. Carminho is amazing, with a beautiful voice: ruclips.net/video/KhgGRuEsUU0/видео.html She sings traditional fado and other types of music as well. Raquel Tavares is a very good female fadista, who sings a happier kind of fado. Still traditional, but happy: ruclips.net/video/zI4NDLZqVE8/видео.html All of the above are within the traditional fado. There are also more modern interpretations, with more instruments, but still fado. In that style, Ana Moura is the reference: ruclips.net/video/U8z8fz4scOc/видео.html
Its so funny to see a young person reacting to Amália Rodrigues!!! She is just the QUEEN of Fado!! Maybe if you want to listen to her in another language, cos she also sang in other languages, during her career, i suggest you to listen the song "Aranjuez, Mon Amour". Maybe you will understand better the lyrics (if you understand french) and understand the real power of her voice!! i also suggest you the songs "Abandono"(do a reaction on this one!), "Medo", Cansaço", "gaivota". And fado is not always sad. we also have happy fados :) like "Oiça lá oh senhor vinho" and "cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa". ;) Enjoy our Queen!!
Olá, lembrar que a Amália gravou musicas em primeira mão com grandes artistas na América cantando em Inglês musicas que na vós desta maravilhosa Senhora ficaram inesquecíveis, obrigada. tudo de bom.
The word for all those emotions "melancholic, longing, pain, cry, etc" in portuguese is saudade, it doesn't have a translation and it's the soul of fado
If Fado was introduced to me by your interpretation, I would have enjoyed it and appreciated it more when I was younger.. As always, well done Sam, you have an amazing talent to understand and express musical emotions
The word you are looking for on min 2:42 is "compenetração" in portuguese, that is translated to something like "convincingness/absorved/committed/penetrated/focussed" in English.
She did not suffer all her life that is a lie . And I’ll be glad to inform you in great detail what the world look like when she was young . Some comment’s can not be overseen and let it slide. Sorry I didn’t mean to offend anyone in this response but you surely should be more cautious with your comments.
Almost there in the Fado pronunciation ("a" is ok, i'd say 90% correct). You'd need some talking/listening to "fix" the "o" (i "hear" you say "fadu" or "fadou") One thing you might not know is that like many of the portuguese singers of the early XX century Amalia was self taught by singing at work/street/bars against other singers. Something like modern rap battles but where the objective was mostly to tell stories with feeling.
It's just beautifull the way you explain the poem without understanding a word! Amália was perfectly pronouced, but Rodrigues you pronounced as the Spanish Rodriguez, in Portuguese you close the "o" and the "e".
Lovely review! If you can, check Carminho with “Escrevi teu nome no vento”, and our greatest singer, Dulce Pontes, with “Your Love” from Ennio Morriconne or “Ondeia” from herself. Cheers 😉
