Preciosa appear more sparkly because they have a larger 'table' (flat top), than Swarovski. This means they catch more light. The same is true with the facets - Preciosa have fewer but larger facets, meaning they have more flat surface to catch the light. Swarovski has more facets but they are smaller and thus have less surface area. Most experts agree that the crystal color of Swarovski is superior to other brands, but that when it comes to color and coatings, there is very little difference.
This is an awesome video. I didn't know that Preciosa and Swarovski make some of their flat backs with shiny silver backing. I thought all of them were matte silver. Just got some Non hot fix crystals from a local store. I saw the envelope where they got them from and it said Preciosa. I was unsure they were genuine when I got home and noticed the shiny backing. Hopefully they are good because I'm using them for a gymnastics leotard. Thank you very much for this awesome video. Any additional advise will be much appreciated. :-)
I mentioned it in the video, but... ...the "D" are DMC rhinestones, the "B" are Blue Nil rhinestones. There are quite a few shops online which carry those brands; google them. As I am in Germany and bought both from German-based suppliers, my sources may not be helpful to you; but here they are: www.strass-pferd.de/ for the Blue Nil stones and www.shirts-und-strass.de/ for the DMC rhinestones. Hope that helps :-)
very helpful. now i really know what we're paying for on these outrageously expensive skating dresses!
