    Thank you!!! I’m a black Latina and I learned this technique long time ago. In my native tropical island we take a lot of pride in our hair and washing it everyday was and is a “no,no”. I’m glad that women (especially Caucasian) are doing this now without judging. You don’t know how many times I have to explain, why I don’t wash my hair everyday and the look that I get from some ladies.😂

      I don't wash my hair everyday too. Which where I live is a standard. Growing up i was very lazy when it came to my hair, so I only washed it once a week. Then as I started to care more about my hair, I started splurging on professional shampoos and noticed my hair wouldn't get oily throughout the school week and on weekends it was dry shampoo and updos until I washed it on Sunday.
      But here the norm is to wash your hair everyday and I get a lot of dirty looks when I say I only wash mine once a week. I just don't need to wash it more often. I think that comes because a lot of women here are not taught properly how to take care of their hair and use drugstore shampoos.

    • @LPempty

      There is genuinely nothing wrong with washing your hair daily depending on your hair type. If your hair gets oily just wash it. What he’s talking about is an old myth that no derm would say is right atp

    • @lailanitukuafu
      @lailanitukuafu 6 месяцев назад +6

      @@LPempty If you ever end up reading this reply, I'm just curious, what are your sources? And also are you, yourself, a dermatologist? And lastly, have you actually tried out his advice? I'm more inclined to believe this guy because he works professionally in hair care and has worked with hundreds, thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people in his salon, who have a variety of hair types and lifestyles. It's reasonable to assume he knows what works for people and what doesn't.
      And the logic of going a few days between washes is sound. The best thing about it is that you don't have to spend nearly as much time and resources on your hair. I, personally, don't have time to wash and style my hair every single day. If you want to do that, yeah there's nothing stopping you. But it's not exactly the best option. Shampoo is literally built to strip your scalp of oils so if you wash very often, your scalp will get used to being regularly dried out like that and it will compensate by getting oily faster to match that. The result is that you spend more time and money creating a daily problem that you then use lots of product to solve. There's no point to it. Your hair will be much less stable, get dry really fast, and get greasy really fast. It's harder to get it to consistently look and feel good.
      The modern world is great and all, but there's a reason why for thousands of years, people (even high-class people) didn't wash their hair every day. Your hair stays nice and clean for longer and you don't have to use as much product or time to keep it that way. I'd be interested to see you prove me wrong.

      Yes. Me too. It’s opening my eyes, I washed my hair almost every day since I was about 15 years. I’m into my 6th decade now and I’m still doing it. I have to say my hair has always been in “good condition” until now.
      Now my ends are dry and frizzy. I can’t bear how my head feels on the second day without washing, so I don’t make it three days without washing. 😢
      I’m going to try very hard to follow the advice given here.
      I hate being sweaty, I don’t go to the gym. I don’t like dry shampoo, maybe I’m not using it properly.
      I have an Aquis hair towel, have been using them since I was given one as a Christmas present in 1997. I won’t use a Terry towel now.

    My hair was always straight, thick and healthy. It was often quite long and I color it regularly. I remember washing it every night. I always enjoyed the feeling of freshly washed hair. It didn't seem to ever interfere with the health of my hair in any way, at least not according to my stylist, several of them in fact. I few years ago I started going through menopause and my hair was suddenly curly/wavy. I have gradually settled into washing twice a week (maybe 3 times on occasion). It is more out of laziness and now that I am retired I don't need to style as much more than anything else. I would still wash my hair every night if it were as easy to take care of as when it was straight but now I don't mind going a few days in between.

I work on a horse farm and between my riding helmet and the sweaty work of riding well, plus a normal day walking an average of 15k steps; my hair and scalp get pretty sticky (fine hair per your video run down). I would imagine ski instructors (also helmets!), gymnasts, competitive martial artists, and others might have the same question as I do-as in what can we do for our hair to be as healthy as possible?

    • @KendraClendineng
      @KendraClendineng Год назад +5

      I imagine you’d have to wash your hair everyday if your wearing a helmet for a long time and also if you have a job where you’re getting dirty.
      As much as you can masking sure your helmets clean and shampoo and condition every day. If you want to style your hair everyday I’d focus on mainly heat less styles that you can set in your hair the night before. Just make sure your hair isn’t too wet when you put your hair into the heatless styler or it usually won’t dry by morning. More damp than wet works best.

      Totally can relate!
      I don't see other way as washing the hair more often, or at least I haven't found a way, but in that case also use a very mild shampoo and wash once (BP advocates for washing twice, but I think it makes sense only only when you're extending the time between the washes)
      If the hair gets sweaty ane dirty, and I mean the dirt not just from the naturally oily scalp but generally, for me it was also many many floorwork routines, basically polishing the floor with sweaty hair😅.
      So yeah, I haven't found a way to extend the washes beyond every other day.
      Now I don't practice to that degree anymore, and it's waaaaaay different to not be dripping sweat on a daily basis.
      Way, way, different. Hair, skin, make up (I can actually wear make up now), the whole routine/care is different.
      Most of the tips out there simply don't work if one works out daily, many hours a day, starting from the morning and continuing at various intervals throughout the whole day. I guess at some point, you just learn to just live in in your own sweat and dirt 😅.

    Hey Chris! Do you have any tips for keeping your hair healthy when going to the beach/swimming in the sea/staying under the sun? How can we avoid washing for 3 days when going for a swim daily?

    I remember when I was making an appointment for my hair for my wedding day, and they asked me not to wash my hair for at least a week beforehand. Considering I feel best if I workout at least once a day, that was the sweatiest, grossest week of my life. I feel like this works for people who do the bare minimum at the gym to be healthy, but that is not me. I LOVE working out, and don't want to minimize it so my hair looks nice.

      100% this advice is for people who don’t sweat

    • @joane24

      Totally agree. Also living sweat and oil on my scalp would cause a breakout on my scalp. I used to be a dancer, so sweating multiple times a day, all day long🙃. I would wash my hair every other day (and it was pushing it, but I didn't want to wash it too often), only sometimes every day especially if lots of floorwork (routines on the floor, so your hair get not only sweaty but dirty as well).
      These advices to not wash for a week or so before an updo are for those who don't work out, won't sweat as much, etc.

      @@joane24 Absolutely. My hair can go 3-4 days without washing no problem... when I don't work out. Martial arts is sweaty, dirty work. Washing it after every session is a necessity. I've learned to reduce the amount of product I use to protect the hair, using better products and better techniques, but every other day shampooing is unavoidable. As much as I'd like to do everything by the book for best results I'm not willing to compromise my physical health and hygiene for what ultimately is more for vanity than anything else, even if I AM a vain bitch with ambitious hair growth goals lol.

      Completely disagree. I workout in the Texas heat for 1.5 hours a day and sweat my ass off 5-6 days a week. A mix of running, weightlifting, and CrossFit. I wash once a week. If I have to, I’ll use a healthy dry shampoo. Works good for me. I’ve got my hair used to it. If you’re washing everyday or often, you’re removing the natural oils and your hair will over compensate by producing more. I used to wash every other day, years ago. Sometimes I will rinse my hair. No shampoo, and condition, deep condition, hair oil.

    I kinda intuited this by myself, especially this: *not* working out on wash day is a waste, and so is working out *the day after* wash day.
    Now I mostly do power yoga, which tends to make me sweat a lot, so my hair usually looks like crap the day after rest day. I think I'll try the headband tip, see how well it works (also maybe try to plan my workouts better and have a not-sweat-so-much workout day after rest day 😆)

  • @lottietalkie3142

    This is really great! My only problem with this technique is that a week has 7 days. So I guess for the huge majority of people, the days when they work out and what type of sports they practice is heavily dependent on which day of the week it is, and that means necessarily splitting your week into 3 days + 4 days... I try to make Sunday my big workout + wash day but the rest of the week isn't so easy to plan, especially when I have other constraints that decide for me when I can do which type of sports. Some sports are really terrible for your hair, too (ice skating for example).
    I also find, unfortunately, that tying my hair in a ponytail like this, will often ruin my hair because the very fact of tying it means it will take the shape of the elastic, which will most probably ruin the curls (if I opted for curls that week). And there's also the fact that I like cycling to work, but that means wearing a helmet AND sweating in it, which is often pretty terrible for the hair (and worse if it's raining).

    • @user-rr9zx6rk4m
      @user-rr9zx6rk4m Год назад

      just curious, where do you live that you have to wear a helmet for bicycling? I’m from the Netherlands and everyone bikes to work never saw one wearing a helmet. I agree with the rest it’s pretty damn difficult to try to figure out a routine and make it work with your hair and also a 1000 different things in your life

      I struggle with most of that, too. I workout 4-5 times a week and I always sweat a lot during those workouts. I’m one of those who wash their hair every 7th day and I like to have a solid day once a week where I fresh myself up to the nines. But I’m wondering if I’m making myself a disservice to only wash my hair once a week despite working out most days. How should I balance this in the best way for my hair?🤷‍♀️⚖️ I can add that I’m a Caucasian woman with corse hair.

      Same here. I have very fine hair in a chin length bob, and I live in the tropics where the humidity is naturally very high, so I sweat into my hair every day, come what may. I'm a dry shampoo addict, and I say that proudly. I also don't wash it for 3-4 days at a time. Day 1, wash really well, blow dry. Day 2, spritz the underside with a little dry shampoo, brush through. Day 3, same, maybe do the outside layers if the oil is starting to show through. Day 4 wash it after exercise.

    I've been watching all of your videos and love the strategy behind your healthy routine! I actually already had most of the products you recommend, but I was using them differently or in combination with other products that probably weren't necessary. Now I'm following your recommendations and it's been going great for the past couple of weeks!! My struggle is with achieving three days between washes AND maintaining my workout routine. It's no problem at all if I don't work out. Three days, easy. But add a workout on the second day plus a shower... hair is ruined! The headband makes it a million times worse! And the shower cap only helps the tiniest bit. Previously, I wasn't even taking a full shower. I would simply dip into a bath for a quick body wash and the steam impact was significantly less. These tips don't work as well for someone with thin or fine hair, and I'd LOVE any suggestions for that hair type. For me, the combo of thin hair with a very sweaty head while working out, leaving me stuck choosing between valuing my hair versus my body, and it's been a life log struggle. Inevitably, I wash my hair after every workout (unless it's a day when no one will see me and I'm willing to tolerate gross hair for one more day)...
