Incredibly fast. I have a 1999 Acura TL and I think I might even be able to rebuild it after watching this video and the one shown later. Thanks - you're a surgeon.
Thank You very much Hiram Gutierez!!!! I'm a Mechanic but never had done an outomatic trans. myself.(manual only) After watching your videos my Transm. on my Acura Tl 2003 started Slipping and converter burnt. I'm rebuilding it now. Thanks to you!!!! ALL THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
Just passed my automatic transmission class @UTI. Cool to see a vid on a teardown in RUclips. The Honda tranny is a lot more complicated than the 41TE Chrysler tranny I learned on. Great video sir
I'm soo impressed that you know where everything goes, that's a massive amount of small parts to remember. Where did you learn how to work on transmissions? I would like to try this but I admit it's a little overwhelming. I've done everything to an engine there is to do, but never touched a transmission. I just subscribed I'll be watching all your videos thanks brother.
Hiram, that power steering unit is called the "power assist assembly", specifically it's designed to stiffen up the steering at higher speeds so it's harder to turn to make steering more safe at higher speeds.
In regards to you editing your videos. Please don't. A trans rebuild is not the time to skip details however small. These are great videos. I have watched the Baxa rebuild (2:18 long) almost 3 times to make sure I don't miss anything. As a new subscriber your videos gave us the confidence, that we could do this if we took our time and looked for details. Thanks for sharing.
I was never interested in this part of the field I can see why now...My head hurts now lol... Hiram Thanks for taking the time to show us what is involved in this repairs,Keep them coming.
fantastic video! I for one applaud you for not editing down your videos. Its much more beneficial for some one trying to learn to see the entire process. Thanks again and keep up the amazing work! It is certainly appreciated!
Excellent video Hiram!! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I like your "unedited" videos. Nothing like keeping it real buddy. Always good stuff with your videos. By the way, I like the music in your other videos better: You know the motley crue, ac/dc, and other good stuff in the background. This music kept me in suspense and on the edge of my seat, but like the other background music better...
Great video. Another case that could be made for putting up the videos up raw instead of editing them is that us, the viewer, could have questions about the disassembling/reassembling of whatever transmission you happen to be filming that could possibly be answered in a part that most people would rather see cut out.
Its great to see how you know these parts so well, you have no fear placing them just anywhere.can you do just one video showing a tear down inspection and lay out for us beginners to teach us better assembly success. thank you for your efforts. I hope God blesses you well.
Thank you. You produced a very straightforward, concise, and organized video that helped me see the exact problem I am having with my '99 Acura TL. -Much appreciated Hiram
gracias por este video esta muy bien explicado el desarmado de la caja de cambios también explicaba como es tan los repuestos dañados espero que subas mas videos Hiram gutierrez
G'day you can see why this is a specialised trade! You can see how involved a automatic transmission is, great to see a technician at work that you very interesting to what really enjoyed it. Regards John Kinnane Tasmania Australia
Hiram another Awesome video, Thank You ! ....and I'm glad you don't edit these because it gives me an idea how long it takes a pro to do a tear-down .Can you please upload the rebuild video of this unit , and I'm particularly interested in learning to rebuild Honda automatics can you suggest any other learning resources (yours are the best) but I know you don't have time to upload videos all day.
Great video. I have a 2001 acura TL, the transmission 3rd gear let loose one day. I can only assume the pickup got plugged with clutch material because when I went to drive it to my shop it stopped moving altogether. So I bought a used trans from a "JDM" place. This place is shady as hell.... My trans is a B7WA, I told the guy that and he told me that any of the 5spds would work. I was skeptical. So I brought a MFYA(from an odyssey) to the shop. Pulled my trans and compared. My trans looks to have an auxiliary power steering pump driven off a gear on the differential. The MFYA just has a plug, when you pull the plug there is no plastic drive gear. So I drove the trans back down to their warehouse and they told me it will work fine without it and to use a hose to bypass the pump. Even when I asked for a refund they refused. So I had to put the trans in or be out what I paid for it. Installed that trans and it seems to shift fine and no check engine light. Only concern I have is what seems to be a two step 3-4 shift. Like it drops the power to shift to 4th gear, but its not flaring. Any ideas?
I think I know whats wrong. Like you said, the gear ratios are different. Computer controls shift points and is not expecting a different gear ratio. Either way, car is sold and I wont have to deal with it.
Actually if you look on the Acura forum website there's a standard swap to an 06 5 speed that has an entire walkthrough including that bypass loop on the power steering. There's a few components to be swapped over to the new tranny so I suspect that's what went wrong with yours, it was a newer or different signal than expected. The double shift could also be the torque converter locking in, on the VW Passat it's on the 1-2 shift. Either way, glad it worked out for you!
Starting my teardown on my '05 Odyssey today. It's giving me a harsh/delayed engagement from "P" to "R" and from "N" to "R" that is driving me crazy. Plus, at 156k miles...I figure since it's paid for a little rebuild is better than a new van! Thanks for your very informative videos.
Transmission came apart just as you described....took me a day for removal and teardown. The only thing I noticed so far is heat discoloration on the main valve body separator plate. Should this concern me? Should I replace it?
Wow! As a certified tech , I have “emence respect for trans rebuilders!” The way you attacked that thing looks like it’s second nature for you . “ literally impressive!” 👍🇨🇦😊👍👍😊
Thanks Hiram for a great video. I have the exact same transmission and I think all my screens and filter are clogged. Do you think installing a inline filter will help? I can drive it while cold but after it warms up, it jumps out of all gear.
Hiram, fantastic video and thank-you for sharing your wisdom with us! You're a true master. I've been lucky with my 2002 Acura TL-s, which has 221,000 miles on the transmission now. I'm experiencing slipping when slowing down to a stop from 3rd gear to 1st gear. When I get to a complete stop, shifting to neutral and back to Drive helps. No codes are shown on the OBD scanner. Fluid is clean with no friction material on the solenoid screens. What would be your suggestion to check next? A/B solenoids?
You are a real genius!! Holly crap u are so fast. Why acura Tl 2014 have their transmission filter inside ? Is it recommended to change it ? Or you can just change the external one?
Super video! I have to repair a B6VA transmission from a 1999 Acura CL 2.3L and I think that I can do this. Of course, I will be watching the video while I am doing the job. I have read that the design was poorly done on this transmission and the fluid does not flow as it should be. What can you share about this design and your experience with this transmission? Again, thanks for sharing this knowledge...
Great informative video you got here. So what exactly makes the second gear clutch packs go bad so often (Accord), and how can we prevent this from happening again? My B7XA just took a dump...
Hey Hiram, I really like the videos for all you diagnosis transmission repair work? I have a question with a Acura 2001 transaxle 'TAG number MGHA' I have a Chilton repair book for my vehicle and it tells me to refill the trans fluid by putting in fluid thru the dip stick. Mitchell DIY tells me to use the fill plug but does not show the location for it. So does this trans have a fill plug?
Mr. Gutierrez, another question for you. I'm needing a thinner end plate for 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear clutches. 1st gear is at .033", 2nd gear is the tightest at .011" and 3rd is at .026". How critical is the tolerance?
Excellent skills sir. I have a question. I have an Acura Tl 2004 5at with 130,000 miles. I just did a 2x3 trans drain and fill with ATF-Dw-1. My transmission is now whining pretty loudly. Does this mean that is probably going to die soon? Should I try and change the filter as well that is semi-internal? Thanks.
Good video, great step-by-step process, and I think it would be GREAT without the back round music, it interferes, detracts... from the excellent presentation your giving, I'm certain it's not needed. Thank you, have an excellent remainder of 2015 and a even better 2016.
Hey Hiram, I love the long format videos. Could do without the dramatic suspense music while I'm listening to you explain along the way. If a Honda owner wanted to avoid a trip to your shop, would you recommend adding an inline filter to the cooler lines to catch that clutch material before it clogs the screens?
Hi hiram thankyou for the great videos very helpful with my baxa rebuild im doing right now and please keep them the same with no editing thanks again.
Hiram I love your videos, I know the 4l80e like the back of my hand now thanks. Quick question, I’m having a problem with an automatic transmission on a 2005 Acura TSX. Car shifts perfect, fluid is a little brown but not bad at all. In park and in neutral the tranny makes a whining noise like a bearing or something, is it deficult to replace those bearings myself. I can’t find any video on this transmission, please help thanks
Hi, i have a byba im puting back together, my question on the low clutch piston; does it have 2 small o-rings on the inside? It shows 2 slots for o-rings. By the way, your videos are really educational. I was able to overhaul a bmxa trans.thank you
Hi Hiram. Great vids. I have run into a problem a few times that maybe you can help me on. when removing the nuts on the the end. the nuts pull some of the treads from the shafts with the nuts. I have used thread files to clean them up but would like to find a thread chaser or tap. do you just replace the shafts or have you come up with a repair for this
Hiram will you ever do a video teardown and rebuild on a 4L30E: Your videos have to be the best online anywhere..would love to see one. As I just did rebuild on one and I am sure many people like to have one as there are none online to access. Thanks Ed in Spain
Any idea what size those leg bolts are that you used with the harmonic balancer remover to remove the bearings/gears? My harmonic balancer tool doesn't have any leg bolts that small and I have to get the right ones. Thanks!
Good video my father was a Transmission mechanic but he recently passed away now i have rebuild my 06 acura TL tran one problem it was doing was when u put it in any gear it would take about 15 sec befor u feel it go in gear do u know y it would do that .
Thanks for this video. I am in the process of rebuilding my B7WA and am stuck on the end cap o-ring replacements. It doesn't appear to be easy to get those things out. Do you happen to have a video/pointer on this part of the job?
I have a 342k mile 1997 Accord (AT) that is resisting backing up in Reverse and it also will move forward when in neutral, drives fine in D4. A forward clutch is burnt? By following this video, will I be able to rebuild my AT, or are there other things involved with my AT, or should I just junk the car?
Awesome ! that took a lot of the mystery out of it for me . All that said every time I hear about a rebuild they say it lasted about a year before it went out again . Hell ! I’ve heard of them lasting as little as a week , so I would be very reluctant to pay to have one rebuilt . I would rather get one out of a low mileage wreck and do a simple R&R . TheReaper!
Are the checkball locations the same for a 02 rsx automatic transmission? I believe it is a MRMA. I cant find any info online after hours of searching. Any info helps or maybe if you can point me in the right direction to finding this info.Thank you
Great video...I have been building GM trans for 30+ yrs. My girlfriend has a 01 Acura 3.2cl. We replaced the trans recently with a reman. Her daughter drives it regularly, and has told us the check engine and trans light has come on again. We called the company that rebuilt it and they said the unit has failed and I had to replace it again. In your experience, what is failing on these units, and is there anything that I need to do to keep this from reaccuring. It has about 2-3000 miles since replacing. I have noticed that these cars have a terrible trans cooler design. Any advice would be appreciated...
For '00-'03 Acura TL/CL what many people are doing is swapping in an '06 or '07 Honda Accord V6 tranny. Check out the 2nd gen TL forum on Acurazine, look for "AV6 transmission swap" thread. I just put mine in myself this last weekend. Putting in another B7WA tranny is likely to fail, even a rebuilt one.
I have my 06 Pilot transmission out to replace the rear main engine seal. With out doing a complete rebuild what external items can or should I replace or check while I have it out. It has 240,000 miles on it but has driven very gently its whole life and no towing.
Where is your shop located. I desperately need my 91civic l4 automatic transmission rebuilt. And this video definitely shows your incredibly qualified.
Hello Hiram. If I am not doing a complete rebuild. Just need to replace the gasket on the torque converter end of a honda bcla tranny. Do I need to remove all the sensors prior to disassembly?
what fluid do you recommend on honda/acura, dw-1 seems to be less than adequate, i have some noises in my transmission and change it every 15k, my 04 MDX has 185k, is there any additives to use?
hello sir...I have a question. I have a 2001 Honda Accord 4 cylinders automatic transmission. i put 250k miles on that car.now it jerks so bad between 1st gear to 2nd gear. Do you have any ideas about the issue?
Hi Hiram your vídeos are very helpful thank you for sharing all your knowledge. i have a question does it fit the honda transmisión b7xa outtta Accord with a b7ta from a odyssey? i have it all complete
hey man i have a question. first time rebuilding an acura transmission it was a 5 speed not a 4 like in the video. finished everything up and reinstalled into vehicle and car wont move. When you shift into any gear the parking pawl is staying engaged... I installed the return spring correctly but it will not come out of park. The selector moves and does come out of park and in neutral the car wont roll as if its still stuck in the locked position. In drive gears it seems like you are power braking it. any ideas?
Incredibly fast. I have a 1999 Acura TL and I think I might even be able to rebuild it after watching this video and the one shown later. Thanks - you're a surgeon.
Absolutely fascinating. I could never do this, you really know your stuff!

Keep up the great job Hiram!

Keep the videos unedited. I especially like it when you call out the size of the socket you are using and the number of bolts.
Great video sir. I don't think I could ever rebuild a transmission. You definitely got talent.

Piggy Sue Did not know about an 06 swap, interesting...Good to know for the future, but I doubt I buy another Acura X-D.
Thanks for the reply, cheers.
Very professional, who ever leave their car to you should have a peace of mind.
why don't you make a video about how you got in to doing transmission and where you have worked at ect...???

Wow! As a certified tech , I have “emence respect for trans rebuilders!” The way you attacked that thing looks like it’s second nature for you . “ literally impressive!” 👍🇨🇦😊👍👍😊
I think I can!!
Thanks Hiram. Awesome product.

This is of big help for a rookie Trans builders
great video. My head is spinning. No need to edit more.
Great informative video you got here. So what exactly makes the second gear clutch packs go bad so often (Accord), and how can we prevent this from happening again? My B7XA just took a dump...
Man......You are a Bad-Ass, You are a Natural......Such skill and know- how! You've got surgeon skills in auto mechanics!😉
Absolutely amazing! Your a master at what you do.
So does this trans have a fill plug?
how much would you charge me to rebuild 02 honda odyssey transmission and where you located. thanks
Thank you Sir, its so informative. You are very kind man, bless your heart.
Mr. Gutierrez, another question for you. I'm needing a thinner end plate for 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear clutches. 1st gear is at .033", 2nd gear is the tightest at .011" and 3rd is at .026". How critical is the tolerance?
Thanks for posting,great teacher
Great video, but i disagree with the "don't clean your filters" suggestion. Doing so has gotten my transmission to 298k original miles so far.
Thanks.
Okay sounds good. I am going to keep and eye on it. Thank you for your response
+Matthew Pfender What ever happened to you TL? I have one same year.
maestro es usted un genio mis respetos
What's the reason for the rear gear being worn out? Mileage, false operation, oil never changed?
Your a beast bro!
Thanks for sharing!
If a Honda owner wanted to avoid a trip to your shop, would you recommend adding an inline filter to the cooler lines to catch that clutch material before it clogs the screens?
are the solenoids and lines and sensors and other externally attached things usually included on a rebuilt transmission?
Done very well Hiram. Very useful video...keep it up bro.
When your taking a transmission apart with just a breaker bar how do you stop the main shaft from turning?
Really Like the RAW video.. Explains a lot, Thanks!
Hi hiram thankyou for the great videos very helpful with my baxa rebuild im doing right now and please keep them the same with no editing thanks again.
I appreciate the unedited video. Thanks!
Great Video Hiram. I do have a question for you. How do you remove stubborn end caps on the valve body. I am having a hard time removing mine.
well, I did some research and found a way to remove them and they are now out.
professional work and presentation sir!
subbed and clicked all any ads for you!
i also found the music a little annoying.
Thanks Again for another Video. looks the same as the BAYA almost except for 5th gear.
Hiram I love your videos, I know the 4l80e like the back of my hand now thanks. Quick question, I’m having a problem with an automatic transmission on a 2005 Acura TSX. Car shifts perfect, fluid is a little brown but not bad at all. In park and in neutral the tranny makes a whining noise like a bearing or something, is it deficult to replace those bearings myself. awesome video for me to understand the transmission problem :). keep it going :)
Hi, i have a byba im puting back together, my question on the low clutch piston; does it have 2 small o-rings on the inside? It shows 2 slots for o-rings. By the way, your videos are really educational. I was able to overhaul a bmxa trans.thank you
Congratulations master
great video do you have any videos for the BDGA out of the 04-06 ish tl??
Awesome video! Rebuild video on this unit??
***** Sweet I'll be waiting for that one!
Sir,
Do you have any of the technical manuals associated with the rebuilds.
Do you have a website? I need some transmission work done and I like all your videos, wanted to get more information about your shop and location.
What do you do, if 3 bearing on top are loose? Do you use a sleeves or use oversize bearings? Thanks!
Hi Hiram. Great vids. I have run into a problem a few times that maybe you can help me on. when removing the nuts on the the end. the nuts pull some of the treads from the shafts with the nuts. I have used thread files to clean them up but would like to find a thread chaser or tap. do you just replace the shafts or have you come up with a repair for this
Thanks Hiram. Yes I open the nut up 2 and it seems its the ones that have been into before.
Thanks!
Well that was interesting... Felt like I was bidding on Copart AND learning Transmission trade secrets.
Good video my father was a Transmission mechanic but he recently passed away now i have rebuild my 06 acura TL tran one problem it was doing was when u put it in any gear it would take about 15 sec befor u feel it go in gear do u know y it would do that .

By following this video, will I be able to rebuild my AT, or are there other things involved with my AT, or should I just junk the car?
Great video Hiram! Keep up the good work! Do we have a manual trans rebuild coming?!
they are great don't change a thing! thanks bro
Awesome ! that took a lot of the mystery out of it for me . All that said every time I hear about a rebuild they say it lasted about a year before it went out again . Hell ! Are the checkball locations the same for a 02 rsx automatic transmission? I believe it is a MRMA. I cant find any info online after hours of searching. Any info helps or maybe if you can point me in the right direction to finding this info.Thank you

Hi just quick question, i am going to remove my ILX 2014 acura transmission. Do i need to put the lever on PARK or NEUTRAL?
YOU ARE A GOD!!! Excellent Video!!!!

Hi Hiram your vídeos are very helpful thank you for sharing all your knowledge. i have a question does it fit the honda transmisión b7xa outtta Accord with a b7ta from a odyssey? i have it all complete
good work sir very inspiring
Excellent video, You are a genius my friend.
Is this trans similar to the honda BAXA in a 02 4cly accord. I believe this is the v6 model but I'm getting ready to do a 4cyl. Thanks for the Videos
hey man i have a question. first time rebuilding an acura transmission it was a 5 speed not a 4 like in the video. finished everything up and reinstalled into vehicle and car wont move. When you shift into any gear the parking pawl is staying engaged... I installed the return spring correctly but it will not come out of park. The selector moves and does come out of park and in neutral the car wont roll as if its still stuck in the locked position. In drive gears it seems like you are power braking it. any ideas?
What tools do I need, more specifically, what was the name of the tool used to remove the gears.
