"Nobody's coming over, Mom."
"That's alright, I only have 2 beans anyway."
Ah, nostalgia from a less reviled movie full of retcons. If only they hadn't made Kizuna Drive an ending replacement it would have done better commercially.
😂😂😂😂

Ash won the world championship after 25 years . Tai and Matt had to watch their Digi-partner fade into nothingness as their Digivice turned into stones . There's no just in this world .
Ash is ass. He didn't even earn his Kanto badges fairly. And Winnin is hilarious. He needs to go back and retry the previous championships.
the difference is ash is still the same age lmao!
Dude it’s digimon plus we got 02 movies coming, if anything the ending of digimon 02 is still canon they just haven’t said how yet.
Shinji got his happy ending, Matt and Tai grew up, Naruto became hokage, Ash became the world champion, and the story of dragon ball came to and end, truly our childhood has ended
@@caseykazem4049noodle cart is the real answer to all.
What's even more sad that gets over looked is that Sora lost Biyomon long before Tai & Matt did. She was the first one to be an adult in the group and had to be because the group needed a mother figure.
I mean it wasn't that long it was the same day just a couple hours give or take probably ( hard to tell how much exactly) that biyomon disappeared, it was during the last bit of the final battle the digidestained and Menoa.
@@KazukoLight but it seems like sora have noticed the symptoms way sooner than Taichi and Yamato but manage to hold on with Biyomon long enough that Biyomon only dissapear about a day before them. there is a short movie preceding last evolution kizuna that shows Sora so focused on her ikebana (flower arranging) that she ignore biyomon and even shouting at her for bothering her. this is exactly when the timer will count down when the digimon isnt the priority anymore. exactly the same as menoa abandoning morphmon to study just like taichi and Yamato did in the begining of last evolution. Taichi and Yamato separation with their digimon is accelerated due to their evolution they evolved into mega level about 3 times. sora is holding on with biyomon for longer because she avoid any confrontation. and it seems sora have abandon biyomon for quite long
Sora is always getting the short end of the stick, and I am not even a fan of her.
So that's why she didn't fight 😢 it madenno sense to me until you explained this...
This movie was actually the reason why I didn't get upset over the reboot being so different. The Last Evolution was the ending of the digimon I knew. Digimon 2020 wasn't for me, and I was okay with that. If nothing else, even if everything were to go downhill from here, I still have my memories and the connections I made with the original digidestined from a long time ago.
I'm just glad that 02's ending still gets respected, they'll see each other and work together and live on
kizuna last evolution is not the end btw. were getting an adventure 02 movie. also it confirmed that the ending of adventure 02 is still canon so they all eventually get their digimon back
ty for this cause i was legit getting depressed here omg. can't wait for the next film!
This film being unnecessary as a result.
Sora just gives up Biyomon, someone she loves unconditionally before the series. And the fact that the there’s a timer anyways is automatically ruined by the 02 epilogue already still canon.
This wasn’t “nostalgia done right” this was “overbudgeted fanfic sequel to overbudgeted fanfic”, especially if they can’t respect 02 continuity and team.
You want to focus on the 01 team… fine. But don’t do it at the cost of respect for 02 team. Even haters should know better than that when producing an official series like this as a sequel to 02.

That last Agumon line just hit me like a ton of bricks T_T
Same. I was holding up fine throughout the movie, until he said that line.
Every time I even think about the way Tai looked reflected back in his eyes I BAWL!
I absolutely love your commentary.
TK and Kari belong together!!!!
I also longed for Sora and Tai to get together. But Digimon is known for their great character development so I think it mas more interesting to tell a story where the guy does not get the girl.
I couldn’t help but relate to Tai. Having feelings that aren’t reciprocated is something many of us can relate to. He’s a champ for how he handled it all in Digimon Aventure 02
Damn, this movie broke me worse than I was able to imagine. I started watching Digimon Adventure when I was in elementary school, I used to watch it in the mornings before I had to leave for school. I greatly liked Pokémon too, but it never hooked me the same way Digimon did. Even to this day, as a 32 year old I have not let Digimon go. It'll always have that special place in my heart. And so, I was very much a wreck during the first few minutes of Kizuna, and it was, in addition to following my childhood characters, who very much felt like friends, again, hugely thanks to the soundtrack! Just hearing those familiar songs again meant so much. But, naturally it was the ending of the movie that really destroyed me once and for all. I cried with Taichi and Yamato, and spent a good while crying my eyes out even after the movie had ended. Digimon has destroyed me quite a few times over the years. And, funnily enough I'm grateful for it all. I'm just.. so thankful for the connection I got to form with the first three seasons of Digimon (those are the ones I hold really close to my heart) and all these characters.
Same here... every now and then, I'll play the movie and grab my digivice and just sit there on a Saturday morning and just... live it.
Sammeee
The way this movie handled that lull we all feel when we move towards adulthood and responsibility is honestly not talked about enough. It masterfully covers that uncertainty through the 2 main heros, and honestly bought me to tears.
No matter how much i rewatch this, i always crying at the end. Digimon have such a huge impact on my childhood. I remember the first time i see omegamon, i got goosebumps all over my body.
What I find so impressive about your video essays is that, as well as being well-written, they're beautiful aesthetic objects that stand alongside, and compliment the work you're discussing. If there were like, a Criterion release of any of the shows you discuss, your essays would make an excellent special feature.
R.I.P. wizardmon voice actor who also play O.G. Lord Zedd, you brought characters to life.
Wow... just wow. Watching you editing this video many streams and finally watching as a cohesive finished "product" gave me a sense of closure somehow. When the harmonica started playing and the final part with Butterfly, even knowing what was coming, didn't matter, the goosebumps came in hard. Great video again, Sooin!
what makes digimon adventure better than pokemon is how the character grow and resonate with the audience how the narrative and genre change with each iteration to revolve around problems that the audience face during that time. their biggest strength is obviously nostalgia but unlike of just giving an endless fanservice nostalgia is actually being used as the plot and their true biggest strength is how it serve as metaphor as growing up to their viewers
I agree.
I know I'm an outlier, but I love digimon TRI. They basically took the non canon Willis story, and made it better. They also gave us confirmed megas for the rest of the cast, and revealed the original digidestined in an awesome silent noir flashback. I know there are flaws, but they don't take away from the overall story.
Yeah, I love Tri as well :).
Tri would have been better as a full fledged season, but it’s not nearly as bad as fans make it out to be. My biggest problem was all the loose plot lines that could have been solved with more episodes.
The beeping at the beginning... It brought out the lost memories from long ago.. from back when I first discovered the digital world.
Sora had to grow up. Faster than everyone else. Broke my heart
After the Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, Digimon Adventure: 2020 was aired on April 5, 2020 until September 26, 2021 in Japan and Upcoming for a sequel to the Digimon Adventure 2020 Anime Series and 02 Characters Return!!!!
The Final Digivoltion is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the franchise. IT HURTS!😭
I am part of the crowd that wants to see a sequel to tamers. Season three was amazing.
This is the same feeling as saying goodbye to my Dog. My Best Friend for 13 years. It tore me apart..but it needed to happen. Sadly.
I didn't really like Kizuna at all... I also don't really get the Tri hate (although the ending was kinda meh and Meiko is terrible). First: focusing on only 2 characters was like a slap in the face since the tv-series is an ensemble cast where you love every single character for different reasons. And Matt and Tai always gets the main spotlight anyway. The villain was terribly boring and uninteresting and while I LOVE angst and a more realistic/grown up worldview for characters that we had followed since they were kids, I only liked the more quiet scenes with the main characters. Too bad there were too few of those scenes and way more with the digimons which, honestly, are not really interesting at all and are also for some reason getting worse with every new season/film. And talking about keeping the original ending from 02... the ending for Kizuna literally made me feel nothing. Since we know the digimons are coming back if they are keeping the original ending?? I don't know, I just rolled my eyes at the crying, it felt more annoying than anything. I feel the loss of the very first season of adventure much harder, when they are leaving the digital world and not knowing if they will meet each other again. Even though I in hindsight know they will, but it was just so better crafted.
As Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen used to say: "Nothing ever really ends, Adrian."
Evangelion does…
Digimon adventure will forever be one of the best teachers in life, that being said. I think for me personally tri still pretty good, what I loved about tri was that it was more about acceptance. Teaching us that sometimes things change (rebot) and we have to accept that change, no matter how dificult it may seem. As for this movie, I think it teaches us that letting go is okay. Things change all the time, and we cant stop the change we just have to keep moving forward. At least that's the msg I got from both Tri and last evolution. From adventure the OG ❤ it's the beginning that even as a kid, you still have ur struggles but you can still move forward.
But in digimon adventure 02 in the end we saw them as adults and parents with their digimon partners didn't we??
Yes that ending is STILL CANON
This movie was something special to me. It came out around the time I was going through a lot of life changes and "growing up" . Digimon was my favorite show growing up so much I have the crest of friendship tattooed on me.
To me this movie represented the exact struggle I was going through, the thought that growing up means forgetting things I care about, when that's not it at all. Sometimes things happen in which you have to move on. You shouldn't struggle to keep it going, you should enjoy the time you have, and when it's gone cherish the memories. It spoke to me about life, and about the loss of life. I haven't cried at a movie like that in a while. It was a core emotion. Not even one of pure sadness. It was understanding. Acceptance? I'm not sure. But it helped me clarify my feelings. It helped me to understand my own grieving at the time too. Leave it to digimon to still be teaching me 20 years later.
Nice video. Well edited and professionally presented. Personally I fundamentally disagree with nearly all of it. lol
The themes in Last Evolution as well as the ending are pretty much identical to Tri. Main theme is still positive emotions beat negative ones, a carry over from the original series, and that ultimately Digimon leave and the kids have to become normal adults and 'move on' with their lives. The analogy is pretty severe misinterpretation of Puff the Magic Dragon. Instead of romanticizing imagination and creativity it is actively telling fans not to watch digimon anymore and get a job (assuming we didn't have one). Throughout the series the children are forced to not only face adult situations that forced them to grow up quickly, it also put the entire world in danger more than once. Yet these kids, which are basically child soldiers, don't get any recognition for it. No support whatsoever from the real world. All while another digital Kaiju battle is inevitable, and more children are 'drafted' into being digidestined. We're basically presented with this epic sprawling story and then told to forget about it, there are groceries to bag. Ignore all the people that make a living with their creativity, like artists, writers, directors, and so on. Imagination and creativity are strictly make believe and have no place in the real world.
The main difference between Tri and Evolution was the former threw in a bunch of flashy fight scenes to cater to fan service, where as the latter is meant to be entirely introspective. It's the same message presented at different speeds. The message in the end is the same. It isn't a tribute or a homage to nostalgia. It's literally telling people who are still fans to quit and move on with their life, assuming we haven't been making a living all along. People get nostalgia mixed up with creativity and think it's a deep messsage when really they are just telling you to buzz off so they can focus on making kids shows.
I refuse to believe that TK and Kari wont end together.
After what Hosoda said about Kari's character, trust me she's better off with Davis.
@@isaacvazquez627 I whole heartedly agree

I agree.
Just watched this movie, and I can say it made me cry. This had more heart than Tri. Tri felt like it hated 02, and only Adventure mattered. This is a love letter to the latter but not at the expense of the former.
Thank you for your take on the movie! It really sparked up some feelings for me!
The end of your childhood and the beginning of your adulthood
TK and Kari could have been a relationship of all time.
Right?
they did not end up together?
Unfortunately not.
I watched tri and last evolution for the first time back to back and i think I enjoyed tri more but that could also just be the fact that tri had more time to give for other characters because of the nature of length.
I think i would have enjoyed last evolution more if it kept the dark gennai story going still added in the adventure 02 team and let me see the ken vs fake digimon emperor faceoff.
Glad I stumbled across this video, I had no idea this movie existed!
The original ending with the kids and digimon together is canon. So the recent stuff means that after the tears the real happy endings already known.
I just watched Kizuna and man was I not expecting the feelings like sheesh. I freaked out so many times during it. The last evolution scene, the realization of Sora loosing Biyomon during the final fight, as I saw her digivice looking stone-like I was like noooo no no no, the Willis cameo, and more. My gosh did the disappearance of Augumon and Gubumon hit so hard. Whyyy why is Digimon making me cry. I think I cried a bit during Tri’s ending too.
What is the name of the song playing while you explain the IZZY's fault? it's been playing for a bit now (starting at 5:33?) but that's when I hear it the most... it's violin and piano... :( it's so sad but beautiful... it's tragic and sweet....
This felt like an AI digimon trying to start a new season.
Nastalgia done right” the films a massive retcon to everything aventure and aventure 02 told us about how digimon work and evolve the entire plot relies on invalidating both seasons
And remember that despite this
DIGIMON 02 epilogue is still canon
Great review! Really captures the essence I enjoyed so much about the original.
Atleast they ate at Burger Queen before the End...
it made me cry and i finally in march on the 8th or 9th, got AUGUMON and LILLYMON and TK signed posters from a convention I went too.
Honestly, I disagree from title alone.
I didn't like they went with the weird messaging of being older = less potential (i.e. no digimon). Makes it seem being older is bad or somehow limiting
As the main fanbase of the original digimon show is at the older side now, it's basically saying "dude stop caring about this franchise" which is a very backwards-compliment
Tri was good but it's main flaw from fully appreciating it was that despite having 6 films. Not much happens in progressing the plot of the films as a whole at least enough in the sense that you as the audience can feel it's moving at a good pace
I honestly love tri!!! Everything 01 and 02 is my shit!!! heculesmon and izzy moment 😢😢
Idc Tai and Sora is canon for me
A deserved and masterfully done DigiEnd to our DigiAdventure.

Tri is very messy, both in terms of visuals and general story telling. They are flawed, but I appreciate a lot of the concepts it was trying to go for. Just wish it had an actual sequel to conclude what it started setting up.
Last Evolution Kizuna is very well executed movie, but I hate the "Digimon are Fairly God Parents" retcon and "you stop caring about Digimon as an adult" themes that it makes me appreciate Tri much more. Kizuna also just recycles so much from past Digimon stories that very little feels original, which isn't something I can say about even the worst of Digimon.
The either way one of the best parts of both Kizuna and Tri is that they have decent English dubs didn't remove character development and depth like the awful dubs of Digimon Adventure, 02, and Fusion did. It's sucks how I always have to defend liking Daisuke, Mimi, etc. because they're completely different and actually good characters in the original scripts.
You had no idea what its theme was. And you should google the word "homage".
@Nicky B You can do a homage without just doing Hurricane Touchdown and Tri's plot again for the third time.
Digimon Survive is a way better homage to Adventure, while also still feeling fresh and not like a rehash of stuff we've already seen several times.
We got 2 great and 1 decent nostalgic anime movies in the span of 4-5 years. I can't be happier that I kept following the series. It truly feels like my dedication to the franchise payed off somehow!
(If you wonder which movies I speak of, it's Digimon: Last Evolution Kizuna, Yu-Gi-Oh: Dark Side of Dimensions and the 3D remake of the first Pokemon Movie)
this movie was just so good for every reason (except the dub having a few different VA’s which is an understandable thing)
the thing that threw me off about this movie is that we saw the digidestined as adults and with kids interacting with their partner digimon
Ah fuk... I got some dust in my eyes...alot of it.
Your editing and production has come a long way since the old Jtaku days. Also, gotta give LE a try now.

It's still milking by way of nostalgia. Every other group of digimon tamers after 02 had little to no staying power, which is why we're back at drawing from the same well of the first digimon group.
nope, it is clashing with original series, and they put something that isnt suppose to be around, definetley Nostalgia Done Wrong.
Hell yes! People praising this movie never seem to praise a single Digimon element. We've been asking for so many new elements of this universe to be explored for more than a decade, but they simply chose to be emotional and introduce things that don't even make any sense.
Everyone at the end of Adventure 02: Why didn't Tk and Kari end up together?
best way they could have done that: let them be a couple in the beginning of tri, breakup und become friends again...
and I'm sure, if Kizuna had more time, this would have been there way to go
I like Digimon Tamers more so it doesn't bother me too much.
Ima be honest. I didn't realize that digimon tri is hated by the community.
I actually loved the reboot but I can only find reviews saying it's bad.
I don’t know why it’s not perfect but it’s no means horrible it’s actually decent and still good in its own right the only criticism I have was the art style changed for tri should have kept the classic Digimon style they eventually went back to in Kizuna
1:48 I have to admit all the call outs were great.
Why all the hate for adventure tri. It was good, not perfect, but good.
i mean the 02 ending still exists
Digimon is everything to me but I'm still salty it's been like 20 years and they still to make Takari official
Here's my bad take. I didn't hate Digimon Adventure Tri. And I wasn't necessarily blown away by Last Evolution Kizuna, either. For me Digimon Adventure ended with 02 and I didn't need anything else from it. Although this may also be because I've grown up. Digimon is in my childhood. Oh and the designs of their final evolutions were utter garbage, sorry, not sorry; you know it's true.
I loved this review!!! Very, very much!
How in the seven hells is Takeru and Hikari not a couple. Its literally been like 20 years.
Because Takeru is not a good boyfriend material to be honest. He is a womanizer with more than one girlfriend apparently.

Devil's advocate and I'll use the dub names since you're using them. To me it felt that the TK/Kari ship felt like the remnants of the team that was pushed together to be shipped.
Well if you ignore the original ending in Digimon Adventures 2 that shows the main cast fates both the Digimon Tri, and this movie could be enjoyable, but for me it's more of a spin off series. Personaly I wasn't a big fan of Digmon tri anime, or Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna movie, since they unnecessary retcon such a good ending for every major character in original Digimon series.
Ps. Digimon 2020 was a pretty good remake anime sure people did get mad when they show mega evolution so early, but newer fans never saw the orginal series, so this was probably done to encourage them to watch the older series.

I really enjoyed Tri and own them all on blu-rey.
Made me cry again
I loved tri
I actually enjoy Tri but last evolution is far superior
While riddled with flaws, I still really enjoy Tri. The smallest reason, but i think it has the best art style of the Adventure series. I also have a different sort of nostalgia for it than the original series. I watched the original as a kid and really liked digimon but I wasn't *into* it. I didn't watch the whole series or play the games or anything but i had toys and watched the movie a million times. I knew just enough to know I liked it. Then about two years ago I just happened to see a pic of the cast from Tri and thought "well thats neat they all grew up, but surely this is just fan art." But it wasn't, AND Tri was free on RUclips in english. So I binged all 6 movies over a couple days. Since then I've been all about Digimon again. Watched the original and 02 on Hulu, watched Tri AGAIN and then finally Last Evolution. While Tri has many writing issues, many more on the second viewing when I know the preceding events, it was my gateway back into the characters I loved and that still give me the nostalgia butterflies to this day. I cried when Agumon and Gabumon passed, though I'm sure I'm not the only one 😅
Yeah this movie send me straight into my feels❤
Beautiful video 🩷🩷
I didn't like it. It was as if they took the movies Digimon Adventure and Our War Game, combined it with Pokemon movie 3, and then added bits of Tri (Menoa is basically Maki 2.0). Completely unoriginal and eventually unimportant, since we know they will reunite because of the epilogue. Tri gave me much more nostalgia through all the interactions of the characters and the digimon. This was just Tai and Matt dealing with stuff, reliving the same events again.
i second this
Agreed…
oh wow this made me tear up
This movie took my emotions out back and jumped them Beating them close to death then lightning them on fire and taking them to the hospital in order to get them fixed up to repeat the carnage.
Nostalgia For Agumon and the other dude
I liked Tri, i just hated how the release worked. It should have been a season, rather than a few movies
Yeah, it should have been released as a season.
Ok so i get that people in the US dont really understant digimon and are mainly in because of nostalgia but to put it simple this last few movies were so bad that the director of the original series (who basically created the characters, story and lore ) said that this movies were garbage and he quit because he didnt want to be part of that crap
Honestly considering the fact that 02 has them still have their Digimon, other series like Savers have adult Tamers, the whole you lose your digimon when you become an adult thing and the kids having to say goodbye to their digimon in a tearful farewell just made no fucking sense when we know they're just coming right back.
The main villain is also just a vastly worse copy of Maki from Tri at least Maki's reasons made sense as her Partner was sacrificed to power up the other digimon in her group, Menoa, she just grew up and so could no longer see her digimon even though she was only 14 and thus nowhere near being grown up no matter how smart she may be, meaning that her backstory makes zero fucking sense.
@@Vandalieumaki had to see her Digimon partner die in front of her eyes
Also about the kizuna villain part of the plot was in the light novel that came before the movie
The thing that helped get her eosmon was her og Digimon
Ok, you convince me. I'm on my way yo watch the movie
I'm ugly crying with snot running 😢 really nostalgia done right
I will never forgive the Matt x Sora pairing.
Tai and Sora, T.K. and Kari were meant for each other.
Reboot PFP, nice…
Amazing video
about sora...her digimon already disappeared before the movie even started. you can see her digivice in the intro if I remember correctly
Not the start of movie , but during the movie …while others were trapped in the memory land made by eosmon and meona …at that time we see piyomon for last time in sora hands
Matt and Sora are better than Tai and Sora, so I said it.
But yeah Kari and T.K are the couplest of couples that ever coupled
I always wondered why people think Sora ended up with Matt? Did I miss it because I wanted to marry him growing up? 😂 at the end she looks like she’s standing next to Joe not Matt. So in my mind I made this backstory that they got divorced and she later married Joe 😂😂 just wondering because the only ones with kids that are mix of both parents are Ken and Joley.
