This is not literally elephant foot. The vegetable was named liked that as it looked like an elephant's foot. It is commonly known as Yam. Just like Egg plant which is actually brinjal. This is called "senaikizhangu" in Tamil and "Jimikand" in Hindi. "kandagadda" in Telugu
