I love it when Brent's V8 diesel organ kicks in and sweeps away the beat. Gahd damn, there will never be another Grateful Dead!
That Brent Solo gets me raving every time.
I love this band. Like most of you watching this video, I spent the better part of my youth living in the universe thay was the Grateful Dead. What an epic adventure it truly was. The shows mixed with the world that was the heads and the touring was awesome. I love you all. May the long strange trip that is our lives keep us happy and content forever.
How lovely to randomly read your letter just now. I had played The Stones version 3 times with a big smile on my face just enjoying the lovely joyus moving -on-song and then I Grateful Dead version even tho I adore Mars Hotel and played it half -to-death,,Ilove this version I discovered by accident and am enjoying listening to it as-I-write. ! Hearing it for the 1st time. I'm 65! xx
xx
There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. I saw them 13 times on the East Coast. The worst concert of theirs that I attended was in Woodstock in '69.
The other 12 were superb. Then I came West and got married. I convinced my wife (Rebecca Wave -singer-songwriter) to see the Dead at Ventura Fairgrounds in '83. We brought our 2 month old (Naomi). Too tough on her ears We left during their second. That turned out to be the last time I got to see them. They were full of drugs and booze at Woodstock, but Great at Watkins Glen in 71.
Previously I'd seen them in CT, little Rhody, and Taxachusetts (cities like Hartford, New Haven, Providence, Springfield and Boston.)
Those were the days my friend I thought they'd never end...
Amen.
The Alpine Valley shows were pure magic. Good Times...............
One of my very favorites by far!! Theyre All Kickin Ass!!!
Love to you Bobby from Patti Cornell. Always love seeing you and listening to your music from Patti Cornell. Those were the days my friend
I was there that night. That was one heck of a great show. There is nothing like a Dead concert.
He is shining, my favorite show & song
Bobby Womack wrote it for the Valentinos, and it charted for them, but the Rolling Stones made it their first #1 hit in 1964. Now it is nearly a standard. A good number of New Orleans brass bands play it and it has been covered by lots of other musicians from Waylon Jennings to the Grateful Dead, here.
Thank God for this was a very good year.....and then. Great concert!
Brent I love you!!!!! We miss you so
Indeed, What A Long Strange Trip It's Been! Recently, I asked a friend if we would ever grow tired of listening to the Grateful Dead. "No," was the answer. And I knew it would be. And, thankfully, because of archivist such as Elizabeth Travis, the Grateful Dead community will always be able to enjoy the music of the most memorable band of our lives! God Bless The Grateful Dead!
I was at this show!!!! and many more of the indian creek / alpine valley shows in the late eighties to mid nineties. I doubt I'll ever have that much fun again. I guess I can always look back
My 2nd show!
Awesome! The Dead always rocked Alpine. And now that place is hallowed ground - Stevie Ray Vaughn died when his helicopter crashed on the ski slope, may his spirit rest in peace.
Didn't know that. Ty
It simply doesn't get any better than this.
Amen brother
Can't stop listening to this espcially wher Brent almost goes into orbit on his solo!
miss you jerry and brent
I still love her now always will Bobby and Jerry and all the friends long live Grateful Dead
I have to say, this is very good music.
No shit!
Dam ! those hippies is too good !
I have to say you were 100% correct !

wow brent was on top of his game!!!
Holy Crap!!! I was at all these shows in '89 at Alpine Valley. Thanks so much for uploading...WOW! talk about a flashback...
Alpine was always on my tour list- -great venue - the guys loved playing this place
I was there for the show in '88. I will never forget it. :)
Lift off at 5:00 onwards... That's my favourite thing about the dead. The way they didn't sound perfect all the time made them interesting to listen to.
Then all of a sudden BOOM
I agree, with most of that. For me lift off is 4:00! Brent is amazing. Just wow. Fukin love it. This song helped me get over an ex. Love it! New hope, new beginnings. Like so many Dead songs..
remember this exact show so well. Thanks to the uploader for putting up. The sound is way beyond most youtube uploads but I won't comment too much on the video it doesn't make any difference. Thanks so much for the time machine. A big time bow to the uploader
oh Brent- how I miss your playin!
I was at this show. I was 17, this was my first show. It is funny, I made maybe twenty shows total but I remember this one like it was last night. Thanks for putting it out here. I told my mom I was spending the night at a friends house, when she found out I was at a dead show she freaked.
Haha nice
Brent is shinning here
@Bortherhood I love those solos down on the low end....reminds me of cumberland blues.
At about the 420 mark Brent goes off...It wasn't the same to see them with Vince and even Bruce..But I still went and had a great time!!! I was fortunate enough to seem them from the mid 80's to the end, my last show being 95 in Highgate.
LISTEN TO THE KEYBOARDS I WAS AT THIS SHOW,AND JERRY WAS SO GOOD TOO!!!!!
The Alpine shows were awesome. Great venue. Camp out and party till show time, go back to camp and start all over again the next day. Good times.................
It’s all over now from Patti Cornell
This song makes me smile the way they play it - reminds of the looney toons 3 bops
Random song at a random gig and it sounds amazing….Jerry and Brent had a great connection 🎊 🎉
This wa s agreat line up. Alpine Valley, what a great place to be over a weekend to see a Dead show. This must have been one of the last shows they played there.
It was their last one
...saw this one playing on the Jerry Projector Screen in Jackson's Hole at the Darling Reunion during Oregon Country Fair this past summer. what an experience :)
I was there the night before, July 18. It was a great show too. They were in great form, full of energy. They encored with Quinn the Eskimo, a big surprise. A lesser surprise is that so many people feel inclined to make nasty comments on Grateful Dead pages. When this song was released in 1964 it was a big hit, the first for the Stones in the "U.S.," if I remember right. It was a pretty cookin' version, and the guitar work, especially at the end, broke new ground.
From Patti Cornell I always love you Bobby and Jerry
gotta love brent!!
Damn! They could really rock!!!!
Miss Brent’s unique soothing voice. 💚💚💚
I read a great book on Uncle Jerry, and one thing I'd like to point out hat I find so fascinating is how Jerry took Bob under his wing and taught him how to play the 6 string. Developing a style of your is something your on your own with though Bobby...Damn I love that lil piece of knowledge...So stick that in ur pipe and smoke it fellow Dead Heads!!!
these 3 shows might be my favorite
Thank you for putting this up. My first show.
who doesnt love jerry men , got to love his style
Yo, Man,The Grateful Dead, 24/7, Far Out, Man!
mesmerizing
Smokin' set! All the cridics can say what they will. But he's gone and aint nothin gonna bring him back.
I remember that night like it was last weekend!
Thanks for all the post!
Keep rockin!
I have enjoyed GD forever and it sends me back to my wild side
of youthful joy ! To the days that
I just didn’t care !!!
On this day in 1973 {June 15th} Bobby Womack performed "It's All Over Now" on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special'...
Along with his sister, he was the co-composer of the song; and it was originally released in 1964 by the Valentinos, of which Bobby was a member, and their version peaked at #94 on Billboard’s Hot Top 100 chart…
And also 1964 the Rolling Stones covered it, and on July 12th of that year their version peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on the United Kingdom's Singles chart, while in the U.S.A. it reached #26 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart...
Sadly, Robert Dwayne Womack passed away a year ago on June 27th, 2014 at the age of 70...
May he R.I.P.
That was a great night!
Gahhhd DAMN, Brent was good 🖤

Alpine Valley was the first place I ever saw the Dead, Alpine was a great place for a Dead concert. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

Me too! (~);}
Good one!! Very enjoyable
SMOKIN HOT.
Miss this venue and Band dammit.
I miss you Bobby
I was at this show.....and many others at Alpine Valley. Best place ever to see a show, except for MAYBE Red RocksholeThe sound at Alpine is top notch. Anyone who has seen a show here will agree. My first MDMA at this show. Green Dragons the night before. Met a girl named Nichole Moore from Pittsburgh. I would like to see her again. =)
Nice
saw them there in (i think)1987 and thats where I Became a deadhead I saw them probably 15 times after that. I saw the last 3 shows at Soldier Field and the rest is history.
@BarekHalfhand Thanks for the condolences, I was only 14 when Jerry passed, Just missed out :( I catch any members of the Dead and DSO as much as possible...Furthur is an amazing experience as is DSO for those of us who never got to see the Dead, I don't care what anyone says!!!
I liked Alpine Valley's Ski Slopes too. It was a year round playground.
nice one!
it's all over now
the best I was at this show
I've never met anyone who thought otherwise.
and now back where it all began.. lol hell freezes over
yes sir mr mydland twinkle that twine
never was, or ever is, anything like a dead show
Actually, the original was cut in 1963 by The Valintinos with Bobby Womack as their lead singer. Then the Stones covered it.
Proof I was a Deadhead. I don't know if I was at this show :)
I know I caught all of the '88 shows at Alpine. The night I went, in '89, it was raining hard, and half of the songs the guys sang involved rain (Looks Like Rain, "have to stand out in the pouring rain...", stuff like that). Luckily I was in the 13th row, under cover.
The year before, there was a drought, and it was in the mid 90s F every day.
I think... not sure mind you... I think it rained on the last night of Alpine '89 because the parking lot was mud soup on the way out and the rest of the weekend was nice.
I went to a Yes concert in Phoenix where it rained before the show.
I was there doing security in 88. Awesome fucking show. Never seen so many naked women in my entire life in one place😂
How did 18 people give this a thumbs down are they drunk, insane or deaf?
+Tommy Crockett try stupid.
+Tommy Crockett - they're deaf.
wrong drugs :)
agreed
that deaf insane and drunk kid sure give a mean thumbs down
A hint at the splendor of Spring 90 to follow...
I was therefore from the beginning at the fildhouse with Jerry and Bobby
Great
Instruments are an extension of the body
awesome!
battle field park chicago one of last gerry show I SAT back stage with his mom and fam it was fucking awsume met then all and had great time .. . miss those times
First dead shows I ever saw were at alpine maybe 1987-1989.....Unfortunately didn't know much about them then(shame on me). One thing I do remember was that it was always hot...like 90....and a soon as they hit that first note ,everyone...I mean everyone...danced..without exception........one big beautiful dust storm....twirlling girls in sun dresses with no..you know
i miss brent...
I wonder if they knew at the time that it was "all over now" for them at one of the best venues to
EVER see a dead show (ALpine)? Remember the rumors we would here every Spring about a return to Alpine? They would of had to leave the lots open all night to do Alpine again. Too many people and not enough places for them to go. Believe this was my 4th show. I didn't miss more than a few shows after this one though!
Cool like a fan, man... Great cover of a great old song. Great looking venue. Great year!! 89' will always be my personal fave...born too dang late I guess I'll have to admit to the heads who disagree.... Wow they really enjoyed playing this one... Brent Midland greatest piano/keyboards/vocals they ever had also imho... sorry Hornsby!!
Sweet!!!
Brent goes wild on this one....
Missing you now from Patti Cornell
you sure do get your monies worth with the dead no scrimping on any song or tune no short order here, plenty of meaty goodness
just tap your foot and nod your head and just look around see the crowd breath their, the vibration.... be at home and chill.
even if its just a video a recording of an event an evening years gone in the past.
just a tiny small bit of imagination and your right there in the crowd...as nothings changed here, timeless.
the greatful dead yet again raps the tuning fork that sets the human experience into vibration
one of brets last shows rip bret m
