Chicago's Railroads are sadly a shell of their former self, It makes me sad I was born way too late (like January 2008) where most of these railroads stopped existing
And all this time I thought it was “Grand Funk Railroad!” Honestly I love GT RR and also DTI RR. A beautiful history in the Detroit Michigan area! Sigh 😔
How was it on the Illinois Central? It's a damn shame that Central Station isn't there anymore. BTW my Grandpa Carr worked for the EJ&E; but he didn't call it the EJ&E he called it Easy Jobs For Everyone.
It’s so weird to hear them say places like Downer’s Grove and Congress Park since I live basically next to those places. I’m literally a mile from Congress Park Station on the BNSF route.
Ive lived on the former rail yards south of Dearborn Station since 1982. Still trying to see exactly how it looked when trains went under Clark Street around 15th. The building there now is interesting- looks a bit built up from a former depression
I don’t think we were born in the wrong era persay. We just don’t have the same kind of beauty or simplicity a lot of (but certainly not all) people had back then. Even the most impatient person in the 1950s was far more reserved than people are today. When we live in a world where the average high school student suffers from an amount of diagnosable anxiety that would’ve had him/her committed to a mental hospital, the lack of certain things seen in these vintage videos does make one wish for a simpler time. Even if there are definitely aspects of that time period we would absolutely loath.
I didn't Know that GTW 4070 went to Chicago. I always thought that it only ran in North Eastern Ohio around Cleveland. Unless it's video of 4070 working for the Grant Trunk Western. Is it?
Hey there lovers of Old Train films now turned into videos from Cleveland , Ohio ... 🤗 Love the footage of Everything seen here especially the old school Santa Fe WAR BONNET 👍 locomotives , but at 7:17 of this footage the narrator said " Here comes a couple of CN locomotives around the curve towards us from CANADA " ... Can someone tell how in the Hell those diesel locomotives are CN from CANADA when they clearly say the GT on them ? ( Grand Trunk Railroad ) 🤔 W. T. F.
Bought 25 💚🍏 frog VHS 📼,1990s... Emory and crew eere the best, and Chicago oddesy is best of best in class👍👍
Those IC Passenger Trains were beautiful for sure

All railroads here are gone, but Union Pacific still exists

Grand trunk train. .1972 from the trucks on flat bed train...just a guess...if you love train's got to love Chicago's rails...thanks😜😜🐺
Autos and auto parts from Flint and Lansing are biggest customers for CN (former GT).
priceless footage, e.g., loitering by that level crossing beside the comfy hut
Wow it really is high def. At 0:42 I can read Bristol on the cabin, I can't do that on my old VHS!
Thanks very much for watching...Please subscribe if you have not, we really appreciate it!

There goes GTW 4070. Once the star to what's now the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad years after.
She’s coming back to life soon the state she’s in now makes me want to cry but 4070 will run in Cleveland if I had to guess probably about 3 years😊
@@nathankeske5697 Well that's good for us, in fact, Cleveland is my hometown
Same
I worked for ICRR in old and long-gone Central Station.😘

I grew up in a house across the street from the ICG mainline in Olympia Fields, IL. It's a shame they sold to CN.
i love that song

Anyway so awesome thank you for this...
Just awesome !!
Love that horn at 5:27
Love the CNS&M one of my favorite railroads, other than Amtrak!
And not one single blemish of graffiti on the freight cars! Awesome!
Some of that graffiti are works of art and give some cars character.
I can easily do without the "works of art".
Them f models looks much better than the boxey ones that are around today
Railfanning has been going on for a long time.
1:35 there goes 5629, such a shame we lost an amazing Grand Trunk Western locomotive
Great video
GTW steamer 4070 appears here. CP 4070 was the lead FP7 on the train in the movie Silver Streak.
Yeah that’s an uncanny thing I have noticed, and gtw, 5269 was scrapped on the spot at the site where metra was gonna use it, but they never did.

As a 15 year old, i feel the same thing
closing 60 and also reckoning much the same
Very nice quality, lol I have this video on vhs and I no longer own a vcr, not the hd version though. Gonna have to get this one.
All that rolling stock pretty well all gone .
Some of the gallery cars (double decker passenger cars) from the C&NW, Milwaukee Road, Rock Island, and CB&Q are still used by Metra.
0:14 that train behind the steam locomotives looks like its on no tracks
thats because its not on tracks, they literally just parked it off the tracks
Electric Commuter Lines... That's called an Interurban!
Hi mr man

Union Pacific locomotives in Chicago
Trying to make out like Alcos in downtown Chicago at 5:54 eh?
UP E8 #941 became RI 991 in 1969.

Ohio Pacific 4446 Yes. The tender has a steam era logo of the GTW, Grand Trunk Western.
GT mainline runs from Chicago area through South Bend, Battle Creek, Lansing, Flint, Port Huron and then into Canada.
What's the name of the intro Music? I like it!
