Hey mate. Yes I agree, decent little tent 👍🏼 have had condensation a few times in cooler/wet camps but that’s to be expected in a single skin tent Thanks for watching Ady Ash🏕
Dan Edwards I love the hammock too, but this is perfect for a hike/camp! I’m doing the 1st section of the Peddars way in a couple of weeks so wanted to go as lightweight as possible. This RUclips game is fun isn’t it!! 😂
On the occasions you used this single-skin tent you tell us you only got a little condensation (good) but there will be times when you'll get a lot more because vents on a tent can only do so much, especially in very damp environments and when it's raining. Won't the condensation run down the walls onto the sewn-in groundsheet and onto you? That's why I think I'll stick with my floorless MLD Duomid because the condensation slips down the walls and drips harmlessly onto the ground. Also, don't mosquitoes and midges get through the vents, rendering the mesh door superfluous?
Hey mate, yeah I never got to use it in the winter as it was to small for what I wanted but I’m sure there would have been condensation as there always will be. I’ve since sold this tent. The vents however were meshed if I remember correctly… Thanks for watching Ash
Hi Ash....I haven't seen this tent in your recent vids....is it now in the attic 😁😁.....you also mention the DD poncho.....have you a vid on it....many thanks.
Hi Ian, hope you’re all good. I have only used the tent like 3 or 4 times. It’s in my peddars way video briefly and a camp I did with my lad.... but yeah, collecting dust at the moment 🤦🏻♂️ The poncho also features in a few, mainly I use it for a ground sheet if I’m bivvying, have used it as a tarp once (urban stealth camp video) but no review of it as such. Hope this helps mate Ash
Very informative video! Thanks for making it. I'm just curious: have you tested this under the rain? I'm a little worries that the entrance is at this angle and you'd get the whole interior wet just trying to get inside. Also wondering if the tent sags or if the material changes when exposed to rain. Anyway, thanks for this, I'm still hesitant between that one and a bivy + tarp solution. Tough choice!
Hi mate, I have used it in a bad downpour and it held up well (my peddars way video) However being a single skin tent you do get a fair bit of condensation. It’s great for a lightweight hike/camp, also it’s bug proof... I do love a tarp and bivvy but also love having the choice! Is a cracking lightweight tent tho so do recommend it 👍🏼 Thanks for watching Ash
Jonathan Adami no probs mate. I’ll be doing a similar video on the dd pyramid tent with mesh inner which is probably a better all rounder, only slightly heavier too! Keep a lookout for that coming soon! Thanks again mate Ash
Cheers mate - looking at this unit and a few others like the Nature Hike Cloud Up 2 which is a little heavier but more spacious, but has 2 skin outer fly. I live in the sub tropics and sleep hot generally - my concerns are about air flow and condensation in 30C + weather ... your thoughts?
Hi mate, yeah I’d go with a double skin tent any day now, this served a purpose for a couple of trips but I’ve since sold it. Have you looked at the msr hubba Nx or the msr elixir? I have the NX and it’s been a fantastic tent for backpacking Thanks for watching Ash
@@AshOutdoorsUK Hey Ash - thanks for the reply. I nearly pulled trigger on the Cloud Up 2 - looking for something near/under 1.5kg and that packs down small. I'm looking hard at the Lanshan 3F UL 2P that allows me to use my Trekking Poles and goes lighter still at around 1060g.
@@thevelointhevale1132 yes good idea, I have a video on that too. Great tents the lanshans, they have a better variation of colours now! Good luck 👌🏼👍🏼
Thanks Ash. That’s a really good detailed review. Interesting to see how long it is inside. I’m 6’ 4” and a lot of lightweight backpacking tents are either just too short or long enough on paper but you’d have your head 2cm from the wall! I was surprised to hear you say pitch with the head into the wind. Is that because the opening is on the side and you get best from the ventilation flaps at the top end that way? ATB, Mark.
Rosy_Outdoors hey mate, thanks for watching and commenting. I think it would be tight for you being 6’4”, I’m just comfortable in there with my gear and I’m around 5’11”. Don’t think you’d comfortably sit up either, it is a cracking lightweight tent tho! Yes, dd recommend pitching into to wind, im guessing it’s leads surface area to catch the won’t that way, and yes maybe because the vents are on the back helping airflow. Being a single skin tho it is very prone to condensation. Hope this helps, any other questions let me know 😀👍🏼
My issue was on a sloping site, trying to lie head upwards. The wind was catching the side compromising the inner space, so head to wind is quite important.
Hello Ash. I see in the comments below that you've used it in wet weather and it holds up well, and that you'd more likely use in summer. So if it was summer and you wanted to travel light but were expecting rain, would you take this and be confident in it not leaking? Thanks. Rob
Hi Rob, I’d definitely be confident in it not leaking, condensation would be bad though I don’t actually own it anymore so it’s not been tested for a long duration, is a good little tent though Thanks for watching Ash
@@AshOutdoorsUK Okay, thanks Ash. I ordered it a couple of days ago, I really like the design. I guess I can sell it on if it doesn't work for me. Thanks for responding : )
Really looking into this tent for the wainwrights coast to coast and torn between this tent and the lanshan pro 2. The only thing about the dd tent is everyone recommended to put something underneath as it is super thin. Surely this defeats the 800g weight as you need an extra sheet. Would you choose the lanshan over this
Lanshan all the way mate, u can’t even sit up and get dressed in the dd, this one is good for the woods accompanied with a tarp in my opinion Thanks for watching and commenting Ash
Hey Chris, I’m a bit of a sucker for tents! I have used the dd in a couple of videos since this one, and do plan on using it again. It’s more of a summer tent as it’s a single skin, and as you know most of the year we’ve been in lockdown! I’m sure I’ll be using it again soon Thanks for watching mate Ash 🏕
Looks like a great piece of gear, just my DD tarp. DD makes good gear without being priced out of range for most of us. I really enjoyed your video mate.

It’s not too bad if you go to be after dark, same as any tent really, can also leave the fly door open to vent before sleeping. Also have to get up early in the morning 😂 thanks for watching mate Ash 🏕
WARNING TO CANADIAN CUSTOMERS OF DD Hammock I paid $139 for 3*3 ultra light tarp, magic carpet ground sheet, pegs FEDEX then asked for $70.06 customs duty & fees. $210 is too much for any tarp setup. Am I the only one who did not take these fees into account I wonder?
I have the same Tarp Tent...you take care of that peg point you missed near the foot end and you won't have that fold in the side like you have.
Cheers for this very detailed video. Very helpful.
