TikTok Shop Has RUINED My FYP

  • TikTok created an in-app shopping platform called TikTok Shop where small businesses can sell their own products or creators can make a commission off of products they endorse. I would have loved this a year ago, but then influencers took it over.

Don't get me wrong, I like The Daily Wire, but even Ben Shapiro was advertising Established Titles, which turned out to be a complete scam run by a Chinese shell company. I like having TikTok shop be available for small businesses. But here’s how I would improve it.
First, I would cut out the middle-man. This means if an influencer is simply promoting a product and they use a TikTok Shop (TTS) link, the link will automatically redirect to the original seller of the product. If it’s a paid partnership between the influencer and the company, it would work like any other promotion-the influencer would have a promo code, and after the promotion, the influencer would receive their cut as normal.
Next, I’d make it so the user can set preferences for TTS. These preferences would include but are not limited to:
    • Whether or not the user wants to see TTS videos (they can turn it on/off)
    • How often the user sees TTS videos (they can select a max number of TTS ads they see on a daily basis)
    • Pages the user is following (if the user is following a specific page, TTS videos will be more likely to show up from that page)
    • The user’s own interests (you take a little quiz and it chooses which products to show you based on that quiz)
    • Influencer-promoted products vs small businesses marketing their own products (the user can choose to only see TTS videos where the business themselves are promoting a product)

I mean, you can stop paying for premium. And watch ad riddled videos like the rest of us plebs. Just fyi, they boosted the ad content, so now there's somewhere between 5-10 ads (many unskippable) per video. Plus, the in-video sponsored ads content creators do. The whole reason content creators started doing sponsorships and sponsored ads was to get around de-monitization from RUclips, so I personally think it's a smart decision on a content creators part. You never know when RUclips might yank your ability to get money from ad revenue.

I am so happy to not have social media anymore, there are people not doing anything for hours cause of short content videos. And then we havent even discussed the messages that come with these videos.
I used to have tiktok, snapchat and instagram, I have deleted them cause they are so unproductive, and if you actually reflect, it will rarely make you feel happy. Maybe once in a thousand videos will make you laugh, but there are so many healthier ways to make yourself laugh. To see the joy in chores has been a big one for me.
I still remember me dancing while doing the dishes with a towel on my head (just, dont ask) and I was singering gibberish.
I still sing and dance while doinh the dishes and other chores, this often brings more actual joy then playing my favorite video games, and I truly love that.
