50 years ago we used basically the same fly made of deconstructed white nylon rope, we called it the "Big eyed Joey".

Those eggs shown at 0:25 are dead eggs. Non-viable, dead eggs.
In fish hatcheries, we sort those out after what is called "shocking" the eggs. They are, in some cases, quite literally dropped from a height while still in their rearing trays.
Those eggs are then ran thru a picking machine and any that are white are kicked out. All others are returned to trays or some other form of incubator.

Why do you keep deleting and reposting the same videos every season?

Good question. We let all our subscribers know that this fall we would be running on a theme of steelhead fishing from our past twenty years. We are just finishing field production with Mark & Tom visiting Patagonia to shoot three shows. Our premiere of our new season is the 27th of December.

Eric, he actually is the inventor of the blood dot pattern. There have been lot of egg patterns before the blood dot, some may have been similar but they were not tied this way.
