Brings me back to my childhood im irish like the band it was absolutely huge here in Ireland 🇮🇪 and also banned in certain places
The song is about a 16 year old shooting up a elemetery school with little kids a few died they were adults who worked there and a few got hurt and few of them were kids i hope she never gets out her name is Branda Ann Spencer she’s still alive
When asked why she did it, she said, "l don't like Mondays" it is the lyrics and the story they tell that are the most interesting part of this song which are still relevant today.
An irish group that had loads of big hits .The frontman Bob geldof went on to organise live aid.
Don't forget Midge Ure from Ultravox
Nice one guys. The other classic Boomtown Rats track is Rat Trap, which is in a similar style, but has sax, guitar etc as well as piano.
I'd bet good money that whoever kept repeating it on the jukebox knew exactly what the song was about. Which is what pissed the teacher off.
A super catchy song about a terrible tragedy.
This was written about school shootings in America in 1979. Geldolf was trying to say that if one kid had abad day he could kill so many others because of the American love affair with guns - it's so sad that nothing has changed in 2022
It was about a particular school shooting. When they arrested the girl who did the shooting she was asked why. She said “I don’t like Mondays!”
true. Which is why some call this the "song that inspired 1,000 school shootings". Monsterous! But as a teacher, I never play it. For, ya know, reasons....
Dang, Ginger, you took the words right out of my head (about Geldoff looking so young, and where I'm used to seeing him...).
Thanks for the video reaction that gets the vibe of the time period.
Hi, thanks for a great response here, was my fav band growing up. The song actually was going to be a B-side , also started off as reggae tune. 'Boomtown Rats I Don't like mondays Dudgeon Session demo ' - have a listen 👍
So..as gentle as I can be..this is the guy who helped but I'm kinda led live aid.and lots more skill and talent beyond that
Gingers haircut tells me that some dark and twisted things happen in that house.
Not sure how to take that - G
1979 school shooting in San Carlos when 16 year old Brenda Spencer was asked why she did it she replied " I don't like Mondays"
Piano is epic on this song!!!
This was about a shooting in Cleveland where 8 kids got injured and 2 adults killed ...now it happens every week sadly...
San Diego, California.
Brenda Spencer is still in prison for this shooting.
Brings back some memories with this one guys👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Late getting in RUclips was down for a while 🤕🤕🤕🤕The world had come to a grinding halt.🤣🤣🤣
Nowadays, this song makes me weep. The amount of guns and frustrated teenagers in the USA....That whole abum was interesting politically.
Johnny Fingers on piano.
Such a sad situation to sing about but it is a great song
Who was I don't like Mondays written about?
Brenda Spencer's
ABOUT THE SONG
16-year-old Brenda Spencer's attack injured eight children and killed two adults. In the hours after the incident, Spencer barricaded herself in her home, and during this time she told a reporter on the telephone that she had carried out the shooting because she didn't like Mondays.
One thing I haven't seen mentione is that Bob Geldof is Pink, in "The Wall". Rogers Waters hated that.
this song is about Brenda Spencer who shout on a monday kids and others dead. When the police ask her why she did it she said.I dont like mondays. Thats a true story.
One of the best songs of all time
Didn't know a shooting inspired the song either, till you said
Wasn't Bob Geldoff in the Pink Floyd movie The Wall?
Yes, he played the main character Pink!
The Nightwish song ' kinslayer' is about the shooting at Columbine
You know Tori Amos covered this song? It's haunting! It's on her Strange Little Girls album. You should check it out.
Saw where she's fixing to come up for parole
Placing this song in a high school jukebox- now that's twisted.
So I don't like Mondays is what the girl gave as a reason for her actions
Respect wearing a poppy.
❤️ We always respect the poppy - G
@@MikeandGinger I'm a Brit Ex service man, poppies mean a lot to us Brits, remembering our fallen heroes. Anyway, I've subscribed to your channel, great stuff, love the old school music you listen too.
@@dazza9326 thank you! And thank you for your service. We’ve always been huge supporters of the military, and Mike’s eldest daughter is a reservist in out Canadian Navy 🙏🏻 - G
@@MikeandGinger You're welcome. I'm no spring chicken these days but I'd do it all again to protect my county and the commonwealth. Hats off to mikes daughter, is she currently seriving on a ship? I love Canada by the way, I spent many weeks with my regiment serving along side your troops, nice bunch of people. Canada is more my cup of tea than the south. I always feel more at home in Canada.
@@dazza9326 she’s in the Reserves, so not actively serving atm - G
I dont like mondays too. Suggestions: Ayreon - Star of Sirrah (Live) or Tears for Fears - Woman in Chains ft Oleta Adams. :) Good luck
Hey guys!! Just wanted to let you know, that Genus Ordinis Dei has put out another video, a couple of days ago. Hope you will react to it!
Yes. It is definitely in the plan - G
Yum
From the time we only had 2 TV channels and not even a single weekly pop music TV show on dutch television. I was 10 and fumbling and fiddling to catch any good song I could record on my stereo cassette recorder from cracky airwaved BBC World Service and our national pop chart the Veronica Top 40, which had just aired on friday afternoon every week that year. This was one of those songs. Surely no longer playable, but I still got those cassettes in an old shoe-box in a shabby closet up in the attic. Good old times. The Police and Madness were my favourite bands back then. And yes, Live Aid was absolutely magic! Thanks!
So ... you didn't air this on a monday. Hmm, interesting. Smells like some weirdspiracy.
Talking about smelly weirdness, react to this, if you dare: ruclips.net/video/vio9rVMMfkA/видео.html
Don't ... ask for the logic in that connection. It is what it is.
No weird conspiracy, just total poor time management 🤣 - G
Did you know that Tori Amos (whom you also seem to like) did a cover of this song 20 years ago? If not, you might want to check it out, not necessarily for a reaction, but just for your own listening pleasure (I hope there's still some time left for that): ruclips.net/video/-ZuwvfmHAWA/видео.html
I think they let her out recently
That's a scary thought 😳
Why you shoot up and kill
I don't like Mondays
Google it and read about the song. Maybe you'll understand. Remember, this song was done way before mass shootings ever happened.
Please react on Floor Jansen with warchild song The fight goes on
It only sounds dated because it has a melody
Still kind a of weird song knowing the meaning
Why react to a song you’ve heard a billion times?
A young David Bowie? How dare you . Geldof isn't worthy of Bowie's spit
All these fake reactions are terrible they just sit still and watch
