They created something iconic and beautiful that means a lot to us. I'll definitely never forget Malec, I think their love story is immortal and if one day, I might have a kid, I will proudly show them these two. Too bad we never got to see them as husbands with kids. In a few years they might make a SH movie or a Malec spin off. It'll probably never happen but hope dies last and I am here, hoping.

aw man... I get what they're saying that it gets immortalized in a way by fans, but the sense of finality is still there. Things even if they continue to exist eventually become complete or finished, and nothing more is added. That's where the sad comes from. I'll rewatch all those scenes a thousand times, and love them just as much, but it won't stop me from wishing I could see more and more new ones

Ya but you can see it as one of those rare connections where sometimes they just know that found the one. It is really rare and special but it does exist. Hence we sometimes hear of couples who have a whirlwind romance for like short span and they just get married and it does last. So far malec is concerned, they had way too many ups and downs where their relationship got tested in every way and they emerged out of it stronger and more inseparable then ever. Their first meet was so filled with tension. When they shared strength some thing definitely changed and when Magnus openly declared his feelings, things went in a whole new direction and malec was born even though alec basically ran away after that declaration from Magnus. So it definitely does not confuse me or throw me off as something unrealistic.
The alternate world is what Shadowhunters would have became, They destroyed Eden, and then it was only a case of banishing the remaining evil. When Clary had to go to the alternate Dimesion, and Downworlders were now living as mundanes, and Shadowhunters didn't exist anymore. The world Clary saw was a glimpse of the future. Even Simon and Izzy were together. Its obviously not a 1:1 comparison because Valentine was there, but I think it definitely had some sort of meaning. Alec was even chasing after Magnus in the alternate world, the other way round. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought this.
I finally remembered, matt daddario also played in the movie delivery man with Vince Vaughn. Lol knew he looked familiar. Ps he also played a gay dude in that too.
Always learning new stuff Alec wouldn’t want to be immortal because of his personal beliefs and Magnus obviously doesn’t handle mortality very well. It’s just part of the dynamic and bittersweetness of their relationship. They aren’t the first couple to face the immortality/mortality divide but they have enough love for each other that they can deal with it together. 🙂

And Alec in the show was using the vampire option because before Clary came up with a new rune, it was a last resort and the only option he could think of at the time with an available downworlder nearby. He was looking for a way to gain demon blood to travel through Edom long enough to find Magnus, not necessarily gain immortality. I’m sure if Maia or Luke was nearby instead of Simon, he would have chosen either of them instead. After everything Isabelle went through with her venom addiction, I don’t think he would make that decision lightly. Which is why it caused such a huge reaction out of everyone around him when he suggested it. It’s a shame that there’s not another season to give Alec a chance to explore this idea for himself. I think it would be an interesting character analysis.
We know that the show has been different from the books on many counts. The characters have been moulded differently while still out of the same clay. The actors too have mentioned every now and then that certain scenes will make the book readers happy and that’s about it. The points of variance for each character and their trajectory is removed from Cassandra’s version for copyright reasons and otherwise as well. Alec and Magnus in the televised version project a depth and attachment that could culminate in only being mortal or immortal together. As for Alec’s choosing to be a vampire- ofcourse it wasn’t for immortality, but if that had been anathema to him, it wouldn’t have occurred to him at all or there would have been an internal debate atleast. Also, just because the Alec in books has a strong opinion on immortality vis-vis demon hunting , the very reason that Alec on the show hasn’t mentioned that at all is suggestive of a different trajectory. Again, the fact that Alec doesn’t think twice before suggesting that he will stay with Magnus in Edom if that is the only way they can be together is another hint on his attachments and priorities. We can’t assume for Alec what has not been mentioned on the show as much as it’s human for the reader to fill in via the books what we feel are character gaps. I take these as clues to suggest what his end decision would be. As Matt and Harry kept saying- the end for the TV version for Malec is infinite joy. It’s not a Shakespearean tragicomedy, nor is it the beauty of tragic love we are celebrating with Malec and that’s how I understand it. Another season to explore that may have been interesting, but personally I see poetic justice all around and a befitting tying up of things. The viewer in me has the closure required.

Alec and Magnus in the televised version project a depth and attachment that could culminate in only being mortal or immortal together. As for Alec’s choosing to be a vampire- ofcourse it wasn’t for immortality, but if that had been anathema to him, it wouldn’t have occurred to him at all or there would have been an internal debate atleast. Also, just because the Alec in books has a strong opinion on immortality vis-vis demon hunting , the very reason that Alec on the show hasn’t mentioned that at all is suggestive of a different trajectory. Again, the fact that Alec doesn’t think twice before suggesting that he will stay with Magnus in Edom if that is the only way they can be together is another hint on his attachments and priorities. We can’t assume for Alec what has not been mentioned on the show as much as it’s human for the reader to fill in via the books what we feel are character gaps. I take these as clues to suggest what his end decision would be. As Matt and Harry kept saying- the end for the TV version for Malec is infinite joy. It’s not a Shakespearean tragicomedy, nor is it the beauty of tragic love we are celebrating with Malec and that’s how I understand it. Another season to explore that may have been interesting, but personally I see poetic justice all around and a befitting tying up of things. The viewer in me has the closure required.
