Wow Roy, congratulations on reaching 70 and looking and demonstrating such health, physically and mentally. Hope your trip to France goes well over new year and look forward to your videos again in 2023.
Thanks for your video, it certainly looked cold. I too suffer from cold hands and as I'm sure you know, in winter France can be a cold place. I ride with straight handlebars and can manage braking and gears wearing ski gloves. My hands still get cold and 30 miles in winter is my max. I remember turning 70, seems a long time ago and I'm now into my 80th year. A working life spent in engineering and at a time when machinery could easily maim you for life and I'm still here.🤕 Good luck with the GoPro.
Happy birthday, I’m just a few years behind you, 67 in May, cycling is such a gift for older riders, I bought a Specialized Creo last year and the electric Assist really helps my riding and is encouragement that I can ride for many more years. Your videos are always enjoyable and informative. Have a Happy New Year and a Great year of cycling in 2023
Chapeau, great T-shirt😂. Highlight of my cycling year was also the brilliant WOTR route (2 day) with my son. Watched your superb WOTR videos beforehand and since. Many thanks.
Congratulations on your 70th Roy!!! 🎉 As ever I really enjoy your videos and inspire me to get out there and ride whatever the distance. I also explore off road routes more having seen how relaxed you are and enjoying the countryside. Keep up the good work, have a fantastic 2023 and if you are ever coming up North please give me a shout as I would love to join you and Wendy again for a ride like TWOR in 2022. All the Best Malc
Happy birthday. You have still many years of cycling in you.Iam 85 and still do 2/3 rides a week, about 30/40 miles now on the e bike. I used to fly gliders in the borders(Northumberland)and know how difficult it can be,but a glorious sport .cheers for now and keep your very sensible comments ongoing. Spencer johnston
Congratulations on the big seven-oh, Roy! Really enjoy your videos (here's to many more in 2023!) and as a fellow Triban RC520 owner glad to hear yours has passed to another pair of safe hands!
Thank you Roy. I always look forward to seeing your new videos, for me it is like travelling in the UK and seeing the countryside of the country that I adore and miss too much.
Hi Roy, Firstly, happy birthday Roy, I hope you had a great day, Secondly, thankyou for all the videos this year. Its nice to watch a genuine, normal person with videos showing wonderful scenery, history and friendly cyclists with no hidden agenda to push their opinions or sell us things. Thirdly, GoPro replaced my Hero7 with a new Hero9 earlier in the year as it got water damage and as I needed to get new spare batteries for it, I got the new white Enduro ones. I have to say I'm impressed with thier performance over the blue standard one that came with it in both hot and cold conditions. I might not have been in as cold conditions as you have been but if you don't use them yet, it might be worth giving them a go to see if they are better. Many thanks for the time and effort you put in to make these videos for us and have a good new year and 2023. James
Thanks, James, but you probably overdid it with ‘normal’ 😀 My replacement came today, which was a new Hero 9. I couldn’t expect an upgrade as it was out of warranty and I don’t subscribe to their damage replacement scheme. I am about to place an order for the Enduro batteries, mainly as it’s not easy changing batteries with the media mod fitted, so the additional endurance will help, and your comments have reassured me it’s a good purchase. I leave for France late on New Year’s Eve, so can now take the camera and make an episode or two while there for the week 🥖🇫🇷
The clip about 15 mins in with the close pass by a driving instructor (highly doubt a learner would have the bottle to drive like that) is really annoying, what is supposedly a professional driver who is responsible for training future drivers being that irresponsible really is disconcerting.
That happened on the coast to coast ride and it was reported to Lancashire police. They responded that it fell well below acceptable standards and would be pursuing. I don’t have any feedback on the penalty but I suspect it would be greater than a driving course.
Congratulations on achieving your 70th birthday. You have to count backwards from this point. I used to fly a de-haviland Chipmunk as a Air cadet in the early 1970s, and have watched young cadets fly for the first time pre pandemic, when I was a civilian instructor. I'm sure the triban is in good hands! Wishing yourself and Wendy a good 2023's cycling!
Thanks, Andy. When I was in the ATC and on a summer camp at RAF St Athan, I missed out on a chipmunk flight but was taken in an Auster during its air test to make up for it.
Thank you Roy for your earlier and very informative videos on the Ribble CGR AL.I’ve been considering an e-bike and glad I watched you on here. I booked an appointment slot at Clitheroe and took a 30 minute spin on a CGR. Loved it and ordered the Ultegra spec. Delivery due Feb 23 and can’t wait. Thanks again Roy and belated happy birthday to you.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. Loved your birthday t-shirt! Congratulations and happy 70th birthday. Thank you for all your hard work with vlogging and editing to entertain us all. Happy New Year. Gez & Tim 🚴♀️🚴🏼♂️
Hopefully you’ll make many more interesting quality videos next year, always informative in terms of historical and technical content, please continue👍all the best for 2023..cheers Roy🍺
Happy Belated 70th Birthday Roy! Booger being on that roof, let alone doing all those channel crossings in a flex-wing with a trusty two-stroke!!! You certainly have the Certified Daredevil box 110% ticked! What with your Death Valley antics, nakedness on the trails, slipping on carrots, and getting hit by a car, hoping 2023 will be a bit less exciting than the previous. All the best to you and your Channel for 2023!🤣👍🇬🇧
Happy birthday Roy, make sure you get some rides in when in France collecting the bike. I've enjoyed watching the videos this year as you've given me some inspiration on places to ride myself. All the best for 2023.
Thanks, Tom. All being well we will complete the sale on the French house at the end of February, so I’ll be leaving the Fuji there until then. I’ll definitely be making a farewell to France episode. Good luck with your channel in 2023.
Congratulations on your 70th birthday. My tempest is now my favourite bike, just feels so much more comfortable than my tifosi ck7 road bike, one upgrade I have on my tempest is oval a chainring, I now have 2 a 40 Tooth and a 34 tooth I have the 34 on my bike at moment, got that ready for bikepacking in Scotland in 2023, but find it a lot easier on my knee at the moment commuting to work.
Meant to say treat myself to a second tempest, although it's an airfix plastic kit. Looking forward to building it up in the version flown by Wing Commander Roland Prosper "Bee" Beamont No.150 Wing, Newchurch, Kent England June 1944
Roy, Many thanks for all your Videos and lots of useful info. And congratulations. As regards to Gloves. I’ve ridden in all weather for over 50 years . And have tried a lots of gloves over that time. But if it’s just an Cold day and not wet. Then I would recommend a Pure Wool Knitted Glove with a Thinsulate Lining. These allow the Hands to Breathe without your hands getting wet inside the glove. Not sure of the price, but should be under £10 .Thanks again and good luck for 23. Phil B
Thanks, Phil. I’ll try that idea - you can’t beat natural fibres. I do wear ‘woolen’ gloves inside my Lobster claws, but I doubt these have ever been near a sheep, so that’s likely the problem. Like saddles, gloves are a subjective subject. I’ve tried gloves that other rave about only to find they don’t work for me.
@@RideWithRoy hi Roy, thanks for taking the time to reply, appreciated . When I say good when it’s just Cold. No one knows what’s going to happen on a ride, so it’s daft to take two pair of gloves on the off chance . But my experience with these Gloves is that they can and do get wet to a certain extent, without any problem Your Hands still remain Warm. Didn’t what you to think that they Can’t get wet at all. Look forward to your next Video. Phil
Congratulations on your birthday Roy. Wishing you many more ahead. I love the tricycle. We used to have an identical one when I was a kid. We used to come home from the Sunday afternoon matinee and reenact the car chases around the house in the trike. I was Stanley Baker in Hell Drivers. 😊. Thanks for the great videos. They are excellent.
Thanks, Jez, nice present. Don’t worry too much as It’s a great camera and mine has only just started playing up. And it’s reassuring to know they have supported me outside of the warranty. Mine gets lots of use so has done me proud. Just a tip, I set mine to ‘flat’ colour as I find the ‘GoPro’ colour setting to be too artificial for my liking.
I love the Rahhint Winter Gloves I reviewed on my channel. Great gloves for this time of year. Gopro are generally good on warranty. I did have a rogue battery that caused issues. I stick a number on each battery so I can easily tell apart if any issue. Having raced two stroke Lambrettas on and off over 35 years there's no way I'd go in the air powered by a two stroke lol.... congrats on recent birthday.... 70 you say? 🤔🤔😂😂😂😂
Hi Roy, for Wendy I can also highly recommend the crab gloves from Planet X £15 I suffer with raynauds and can ride in minus 1 degrees with those on. I have recently bought a spare pair as my hands get so hot they sweat and when I stop at the cafe and put them back on they are damp so my spare pair is to swap over. Happy New Year to you and your family. Congrats on the big birthday too, lovely to hear your stories 😊
Because of you Roy I recently got my Ribble CGR ALE, Bar extender although I may need to fit my Cat Eye front light upside down due to the fitting. Had my first short ride yesterday walking like John Wayne today. I found the Garmin power assist a good buy as you can go up and down. Im a pleasure cyclist whose cycling pals are about 20 years younger so the Ribble will hopefully help. I am planning to arrange some days out next year. Love your videos and your co pilot Wendy. Please do another on your Ribble. Will buy a sat Nav looking at a Garmin edge explorer 2 for next year. I have my Bromptons, a Swytch bike my RIBBLE all thanks to cycle to work schemes. So i hope to have a very active year on my Ribble with rack and bags next year. So well done. PS tyre glide as well. Ha Ha
I wish you a great year of adventures, Peter, and not too much need for the Tyre Glider. I did have the Ribble out a couple of days ago, but no camera. I’ll certainly try to add a few more outings with it. Wendy and I will sometimes have an ‘e’ day, depending on how we feel 🙂. The assist is a great leveller in that it allows me to go out with my son without holding him up.
Congratulations on reaching 70 years old Roy! Especially after flying near lightning storms. I enjoy seeing your videos from over her in America. Sorry you had problems with your GoPro 9. I've heard other people complain about the newer models. I haven't upgraded since I got my GoPro 8 Black in 2020. The rubber parts over the buttons on my GoPro 8 got worn out on it and enough that when it drizzled rain just a little on it, I thought it was toast. I couldn't get it to work but, I kept trying and I almost tried to open it but, after watching videos of how to open them and trying, I decided not to. I just sprayed some DeOxit in and left the battery out and the door opened and somehow after a couple of weeks it came back to life. I put a rubber case Lanyard on the GoPro 8 Black and it feel like new when I use it now and the rubber casing keeps the inside of the camera dry when I get caught in the rain. I got lucky to get the GoPro 8 to work again. I bought my Triban RC 520 bike after watching your videos and some other people's Triban Videos. I paid $1299 two Februarys ago. A month later it went up to $1399. Recently I saw it at $1699. Today, I looked at the price and it dropped down to $999. That surprised me. I had seen the only Decathlon stores we had in the United States that were in California had closed shortly after I bought mine from there. I don't know if that $999 price is because they are trying to clear out the place but, that's a really good bargain now. I've put 6,800 miles on my bike. I kept everything original. I wished I had bought one size bigger because the Medium feels a little small for me. My Rear original tire nearly got 4,000 miles out of it before the wear all of sudden started to show on it. I replaced the rear tire with a Continental Grand Prix 5000 and it's been a good tire. I am still using my original front tire and I am surpised it still looks good. It may outlast my rear Grand Prix 5000 tire. I really just wanted to see how many miles I would get out of my front tire. I had bought two new Grand Prix 5000 tires but, thought the front original tire would have worn soon after. I didn't need a tire lever to break the rear tire off when I changed it. I thought I read that Decathlon had improved that issue. It took some work get it off by hand. I just going around it and pinching it until it brook the hold that the hook had on it and the rest of it just came right off. The Triban RC 520 has been a good bike for what I paid for it. I'd recommend for people to buy it at $999 but, not $1,699.
Thanks, I am still surprised I’ve lasted this long 😀 It seems the GoPro 8 was the last of the reliable ones. Even though my 9 was replaced, it’s still glitchy. For example, if I leave a battery installed it switches itself on and discharges overnight. Great to hear you get on so well with the Triban. That reduced price is amazing! I just checked here and it’s about the same as usual, but they have many other bikes reduced. The cycle industry is struggling here, so maybe they are trying to offload some stock. I occasionally ride with someone that bought a Triban on my recommendation. He confirmed your theory about the wheel design change as he has no problem with tight tyres. Great to hear from you and thanks for taking the time.
@@RideWithRoy about the camera turning on, I had that glitch on the GoPro 8. It was weird that mine turned on like that. That seemed to happen after it got wet. Maybe it's moisture related. I took an air can and aired it out. My button may have gotten some moisture in it too. That issue was only a temporary issue for me. I did Google Search for answers for you. Some people mentioned the bluetooth setting may cause it. That's an easy setting to check to see if it's on or off. The big one that people say that helped fix their GoPro turning on by itself issue was they did a manual update after downloading the firmware update to a micro sd card and then they loaded the micro sd card into their GoPro and did the firmware update that way. Some mentioned to do a factory reset and then do the "manual firmware update". I will suggest to give that a try and see if it helps. Someone always mentioned to adjust the wake mode but, I know nothing about wake mode. Maybe on voice command it can turn on. I do kind of remember GoPro adding a scheduling feature on their GoPro camera to turn on at certain times. It could be a related bug. Probably all that can get fixed with a Factory reset and a manual update. The Sweetest Cyclist on RUclips, replied back to me about the price drop. I also told him about it because he was the other RUclipsr that helped influence me to buy a Triban RC 520. He lives in the States too. He thinks maybe they are clearing out the Triban RC 520s to make room for a new inventory. I know I bought my bike at the California store and they closed the only two Decathlon stores in America down. Their website is still selling products so, I don't know what the whole story is with that. Canada had quite a few Decathlon stores the last time I checked. Walmart and C Curated were both stores that I saw that had sold the Triban RC 520 for less than what Decathlon sold it for but, now I don't even see that those two stores are even selling the Triban RC 520 bike anymore. I don't know what's going on. Happy Riding! Thanks for the sharing the vids you make!
That’s really kind of you to go to so much trouble. I also think it may be related to the voice command, as when I keep that turned off it doesn’t seem to happen. So perhaps it picks up my snoring in the night 😀 I’ll try the other suggestions you researched as well. Thanks again!
Roy, hope you had a wonderful birthday 🎂. I enjoyed this video. I actually love the fog but have to admit I've never ridden in the fog. Question: when you're riding on roads with traffic, about how fast are the cars going? I ride on residential streets with a speed limit of 25 mph. Unfortunately, this practice really limits where I can go. It would be nice to be able to actually go somewhere rather than just riding around in circles. But the streets I would have to ride have speed limits of 45 mph which scares me because I ride so slowly (compared to those who ride two wheels). Wishing you and your family, and Wendy and her family a great New Year. 🎆🎉
Thank you. Our max speed limit is 70 mph on dual carriageways (which I would never ride on) and 60 on all other roads, unless signed less. As you can imagine, 60 is fast for those narrow lanes. I would imagine you would be safer on your trike due to it being more noticeable, but you have to do what you are comfortable with. Isn’t it sad that the actions of others cause us to miss out on the things we enjoy doing.
check drift ghost cams out especially the 4k pro 1 out I have the drift ghost cam x with a 5 hour battery life .but the also there a add on to make it a 8 hour battery where I will be getting tomorrow .the 4k pro ghost cam got anti shake built in. but check first before you buy because I not 100 percent shore .just a suggestion Roy ;). but your limited on the mounts for the cam. also the mike wind noise can be bad
Thanks, Roy, your videos have been an education, motivating and not to mention a pleasure to watch. I bought the tyre glider as a result of your launch and have been mightily impressed. I wonder whether you're aware of the competing tyre monkey - it does look a surprisingly similar product? Anyhow, belated happy birthday and I look forward to seeing how your plans for 2023 pan out. All the best!
Are you looking for a quiet route from Newark to Southwell? I know of one, though it’s not very direct, it is all on quiet roads. Head out of Newark past the Sugar Beet factory (on the cyclepath). When you get to South Muskham, head for Bathley, go through Bathley, then take a left at the crossroads, climb over the hill (a steady climb, not steep) and drop down to Caunton. Take a left in Caunton village, follow the road and you will come to a crossroads with the A616. Go straight across - follow the road past Newfield Ice Cream Parlour, which has a nice cafe if needed, carry on to Hockerton. Staggered crossroads over the A617 (left then right). This road brings you in the back way to Southwell, either past the Workhouse or past the Old Water Mill. I also don’t like that crossing over the A52. We tend to cross at Muston, as it’s a pain opening and shutting the gates, but it’s still a fast and dangerous crossing. A footbridge over the A52 would be great.
Thanks, Trevor. The footbridge will be at the Muston pedestrian crossing. That is the route we take to Southall, but it’s the main road leaving the town that takes us past the university before we turn off to Hoveringham that we dislike.
Ah, we always head South-east out of Southwell, go past the Garden Centre, past Brinkley and down to either Fiskerton or Morton, then via Bleasby to Thurgaton. Much quieter that way. From Thurgaton we go back down to the river at Hoveringham, then back to Lowdham. I agree the Southwell-Lowdham road is busy with lots of bends and hills, and we never ride on it for that reason. The route via Bleasby is a little bit further, not much, but worth it for the quieter roads.
Hi Roy. Thanks for your interesting & informative video’s this year. My (nearly) 70 year old ears picked up when you mentioned winter gloves. I suffer terribly with cold fingers & in spite of trying silk inner gloves, Lobster Claw and a variety of ‘Recomended’ cold weather gloves, have failed to find anything that does the job. Even the little heat pads don’t really cut it as I can’t get them into the right place. I wonder if you have ever considered trying the battery powered ‘Heated Gloves’? I also wonder if you could review such handwear as you obviously have some respect from manufacturers and your reviews always give a sensible critique? Anyway, keep up the good work and I hope you have a wonderful 70th year with lots of cycling adventures. Best Wishes for 2023.
Thank you, Simon. On one long winter ride I did use heat pads to great effect. I placed them between an inner and outer glove on the back of my hand, the theory being that they would heat the blood passing through those veins. They become quite expensive to use on every ride though, so I have considered the electrically heated ones. I shall have to see if a manufacturer is interested in sending some over to try. I did have some for flying, where cold at altitude in winter is even worse, but they were powered from the plane. As they say, watch this space 😀
Hi Roy. I'm just catching this vid in Sept '23. I bought the RC520 GRVL partially because of your high praise (plenty of other research too) . And I'm somewhat disappointed by 1) my toe can touch the front tire if it is turned sharply. I know this is rare during regular riding but not so at very slow speeds. I find this very dangerous. And 2), walking out of Decathlon in Lorient France, they told me the only mud guards that would work were a particular brand that came from Germany and could be bought on Amazon. I got the rear one on but gave up on the front due to the foot clearance problem which was exacerbated. I'm thinking of returning it but, as you say, anything comparable would be much more expensive (paid 1200 euros in June). Didn't you encounter these problems? Thanks for the interesting content. Cheers. B. Stowe
Hi, Bill. Sounds like the frame is too small for you. I had this happen when another frame I rode was too small. And, as you say, the mudguards will be hit every time. I never had this problem with my Triban. Check their sizing guide to see what the correct frame is for you. Either way, I think you’ll have to return it as it’s no good and unsafe as it is
Thanks for your thoughtful explanations on the Triban. Really helped a newbie like me realise that it's ok to save some money and get it. Think I'll go for that one. But was also thinking if it's better to get something second hand that's similarly versatile for someone still working out what their Cycling hobby will look like!?
Thanks, I’m delighted it helped 🙂 If you’re not sure it would be a good plan to buy a used bike. I would strongly suggest taking advice before a purchase, from someone with some knowledge, as there are some bargains and also some that will cost you a lot in repairs. The Triban is a lot of bike for the money and will do almost everything you want it to. The only exception is if you decide to go ultralight carbon and get into fast riding. We do have a really nice subscribers’ Facebook group that you are welcome to join. They are likeminded cyclists who will gladly share their wisdom facebook.com/groups/723507535708096/?ref=share_group_link
@@RideWithRoy I didn't see this reply until now. Actually in the end did another month or so of research and chatting to people in the know to work out what I wanted. And got a 2017 ALR5 Emonda for 350£ on eBay near mint condition. Deals are out there to had if you do the work to figure what you want, and it's not the wild west that people scare you into thinking, most people are decent normal people shifting a bike they don't use anymore. I ended up saving 500£ vs the Triban and also 2kg in weight. Like anything there's the 1st and the 2nd hand market, it's in the former where you'll overpay especially in the current market and need to be wealthy for it to make sense.
@@RideWithRoy it was a bargain indeed. I've seen Tarmac with Hunt wheels go for 500£, Supersix Evo 2018 go for the same. Both excellent condition. And that's just me looking for black bikes 😂 many many more deals to be had if your not as vain. You'll know. I'm just putting it here for anyone else reading. Essentially go rim brake... Lighter cheaper easier to maintain. Once you want disc brakes your not being any bargains
Good video Roy it’s a shame you wasn’t vlogging when you used to fly. Would of made a video to watch. I don’t think I’m brave enough to have a go on one of them gliders lol
I’ve often thought that, but I was too busy with a career that I didn’t even have enough time to fly. And anyway, other pilots have done much more epic flights than I have.
Purely that I didn’t have space to keep all three gravel bikes an MTB and road bike, Victor. I wanted to keep the Ribble e assist and the Tempest, so the Triban was the one that had to go. I’m pleased that it’s gone to a great new owner who will love it.
Roy, I bought my RC520 after watching your glowing reviews. I did have to wait for almost a year for them to arrive in stock in Canada, but I think it was well worth the wait. I do have a question I have been meaning to ask you, what was the largest tire that you fit on yours? I am currently running Panaracer Gravel King SS 32's but am considering going larger to a 38 if it will fit. I know Decathlon says 36mm is the max., but I've heard that people have gone larger. All the best and I look forward to your upcoming adventures.
38mm will fit with no problem, Mike. I’ve heard people say even a 40mm will work (see this article thesweetcyclists.com/widest-tire-decathlon-triban-rc-520/). Personally, I ran 36mm and they performed well on road and trail. It’s a great bike and you’ll have many years of use out of it. I eventually upgraded the wheels as puncture repairs were a nightmare on the OE set. If I was buying the bike again I would have taken advantage of the tubeless ready wheels. I also upgraded to the Shimano 105 11/34 cassette, to aid climbing.
Yes, I use those in very cold conditions on long rides. I also line my shoes with space blanket foil, so rarely suffer. It’s my fingers that I suffer with, while Wendy has the cold feet.
Hi Roy. I've messaged you quite a few times in the past. Just wanted to know the area you live. Not exact, it's ok, I'm not a stalker, it just looks so nice around there. Hope you don't mind. Great videos my friend. ,👍
😂😂 no problem at all, Andy. You mainly see the Vale of Belvoir (pronounced Beever) but if I include other areas I usually add the Strava route at the end. www.gps-routes.co.uk/routes/home.nsf/RoutesLinksWalks/vale-of-belvoir-walking-route
@@RideWithRoy Thanks Roy. Might take a cheeky weekend away in the spring. Looks beautiful. Thanks again. Keep that content going, my favourite channel, with a cuppa, watching you and Wendy on your adventures. 👍
It’s a different feeling in a plane, Charlie. I’ve flown it to 11,000 feet and only then did I feel overawed by the altitude. Many flyers I’ve spoken to feel the same way and can’t even attempt a ladder or standing on the edge of a high building.
Yep, just bought the DJI Action 4. Unlike the Triban, the GoPro was just too unreliable and glitchy. I’m still keeping as a back up but so far not needed it.
Hi Roy wow would never of thought you were 70 I'd of said late 50s . Congratulations on top content as alway all the best in 2023. With regards to the GoPro @leonardmlee made a video on his channels link below ruclips.net/video/fVliMdW5NC4/видео.html i think the insta 360 is a better option for reliability all the best 👍
Thanks, John, but you may need a trip to the opticians 😀 I have seen Leonard’s video on the insta 360, but thanks for the link, and will likely go that way. For now I have the new replacement Hero 9 so I hope it performs correctly for another year or two.
A working life spent in engineering and at a time when machinery could easily maim you for life and I'm still here.🤕
Good luck with the GoPro.
Happy birthday, I’m just a few years behind you, 67 in May, cycling is such a gift for older riders, I bought a Specialized Creo last year and the electric

Thanks, Malc, you will always be our first contact if we visit the north.
Happy birthday. You have still many years of cycling in you.Iam 85 and still do 2/3 rides a week, about 30/40 miles now on the e bike. Thank you, Spencer, you are an inspiration that I hope to emulate. And long may you continue.
Keep up the good work Roy. Have a safe and healthy 2023!
Hi Roy,
Firstly, happy birthday Roy, I hope you had a great day,
Secondly, thankyou for all the videos this year.
Congratulations on your 70th, you've done some amazing things. Love watching the vids and you're welcome to some of our warm weather.
@@keithstewart6265 that’s exciting, Keith, and just in time for better weather..
Neoprene Pogies over the handlebars work very well together with regular cycling mitts.
Thanks for this. I used a similar thing for open cockpit flying and was only yesterday thinking such a thing would be great for cycling.
Thanks, Gez, we look forward to meeting up with you both, soon.
Hopefully you’ll make many more interesting quality videos next year, always informative in terms of historical and technical content, please continue👍all the best for 2023..cheers Roy🍺
Thanks for all the videos Roy and welcome to the 70 + club. Cycling in the fresh air keeps us going 😁
Another great video Roy you don't half have some lovely countryside down there it looks gorgeous & bike friendly
All the best to you and your Channel for 2023!🤣👍🇬🇧
Ha ha, you HAVE been paying attention Tony 😂
Looking very respectable for 70, Roy!! Many congrats.👍
Hello Roy
Thank you for all the interesting videos this year, hope you had a good Christmas and a happy new year to you and Wendy.
Happy Birthday Roy, you are a great advocate for cyclists and your videos and content are so invaluable. Have a great new year
Loved the video. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and wish you a Very Happy New Year. x
Looking forward to building it up in the version flown by Wing Commander Roland Prosper "Bee" Beamont No.150 Wing, Newchurch, Kent England June 1944
congrats for all your achievements. looking forward to your videos :D
Thank you Sean, that is much appreciated.
Happy 70th Roy and Happy New Year your Videos are so good I really look forward to viewing them All the very best mate👍
Hi Roy. Thanks for sharing. I’ve just had a GoPro 9 for Christmas. Oh dear, well I hope it works ok in the cold. Fingers crossed. Happy birthday. 👍
Thanks for the advice Roy. 👍
Thanks, Heidi, and thanks for the suggestion on the gloves 😀
Thanks for the suggestion. Might give them a go!
Co pilot! Hope that doesn’t mean I am expected to navigate 🤣
Litter & fly tipping is a huge problem here & makes my blood boil when I see it
Congratulations on reaching 70 years old Roy!
@@RideWithRoy you are welcome!I hope you get that issue resolved!
Thank you - Happy New Year to you too 🎉
check drift ghost cams out especially the 4k pro 1 out I have the drift ghost cam x with a 5 hour battery life .but the also there a add on to make it a 8 hour battery where I will be getting tomorrow .the 4k pro ghost cam got anti shake built in. but check first before you buy because I not 100 percent shore .just a suggestion Roy ;). but your limited on the mounts for the cam. also the mike wind noise can be bad
Either way, I think you’ll have to return it as it’s no good and unsafe as it is
Go pro are shocking for money . I not been on bike in bit with weather and ill . Have happy 2023 and maybe see you in Suffolk
I enjoy the videos. Am now looking for a GPS. So Wahoo maybe.
That sounds like a bargain, so definitely worth the research. There are a lot of pandemic purchases that are now discarded.
Congratulations for your age and channel.😉👍
Nice video. What is the make of your ultralight?
It was the Air Creation Kiss 400. French machine that I built from a kit, in UK, and sold it in France.
Belated Birthday Wishes Roy 🎂🍷
Good video Roy it’s a shame you wasn’t vlogging when you used to fly. Would of made a video to watch. I don’t think I’m brave enough to have a go on one of them gliders lol
I’ve often thought that, but I was too busy with a career that I didn’t even have enough time to fly. And anyway, other pilots have done much more epic flights than I have.
Happy Birthday Roy! I hope one day we’ll ride together in France :) But I didn’t get the main reason why you get rid of Triban bike :(
Purely that I didn’t have space to keep all three gravel bikes an MTB and road bike, Victor.
Gloves: Proviz lobster gloves (with a liner if, like me, you get cold hands).
Thanks, Ian. Yes, cold hands are my problem. I’ll have a look at the Proviz.
well said young man 👍
Cold feet: any old brand of neoprene toe protectors / warmers. I’ve currently got some Madison ones that are still good after 2 yrs.
Yes, I use those in very cold conditions on long rides. I also line my shoes with space blanket foil, so rarely suffer. It’s my fingers that I suffer with, while Wendy has the cold feet.
Happy birthday.
did you not realize your were afraid of heights when up in microlight 🙂 same age as yourself turning 70 in june
It’s a different feeling in a plane, Charlie. I’ve flown it to 11,000 feet and only then did I feel overawed by the altitude. Many flyers I’ve spoken to feel the same way and can’t even attempt a ladder or standing on the edge of a high building.
Thanks Roy ,that’s amazing you wouldn’t think that
70? I would have guessed you at mid 50 :o
😂😂😂 Very kind
GoPro too?
Yep, just bought the DJI Action 4. Unlike the Triban, the GoPro was just too unreliable and glitchy. I’m still keeping as a back up but so far not needed it.
Hi Roy wow would never of thought you were 70 I'd of said late 50s . Congratulations on top content as alway all the best in 2023. With regards to the GoPro @leonardmlee made a video on his channels link below
ruclips.net/video/fVliMdW5NC4/видео.html i think the insta 360 is a better option for reliability all the best 👍
Thanks, John, but you may need a trip to the opticians 😀 I have seen Leonard’s video on the insta 360, but thanks for the link, and will likely go that way. For now I have the new replacement Hero 9 so I hope it performs correctly for another year or two.
Always read your notam.
